Blogger

During pre-production. I had to create a Google account and join Blogger. I had no idea what Blogger was before we started research for our film, it’s a blog that you upload your research/ideas on to.

Blogger was good for keeping up to date with things because if we did research we could make a post on blogger and edit it any time we liked. Whenever research was done or any film ideas, we put it on blogger and any of the team can read them and help you out.

CeltxWe individually had to make a script for the preliminary task, we did this on Celtx, a piece of software that allows you to write professional movie scripts. At first it was difficult, as I didn’t know how to separate the dialogue so different people were speaking but after someone showed me, it was simple and easy and I still haven’t forgot how to use it. We then had to choose one out of four scripts to use in the preliminary video.

As we used Celtx in the preliminary task giving us experience so we used it in our film. We created a script between two people for the first two minutes of our film.

Cameras and equipmentFor the two minute film, we used a Sony HD 1000 camera and a tripod. We used this because it is good quality and the end product would be better, we had used this camera in the preliminary task so we had experience and could handle it. However as it is quite large and expensive, we had to be extremely careful when carrying it and it was hard to get it from one location to the next.

The tripod was useful and necessarily in the preliminary task as it kept a stable shot so it wasn’t wobbling about but when it came to the film, it was in the way and couldn’t fit anywhere therefore we had use the camera freely, this worked well though because the shots that were not stable were the creepy/scary ones so it gave it effectiveness.

Final Cut ExpressOnce we finished filming our two minute film, we used Final Cut Express to edit it. We used this software in the preliminary task therefore we had better knowledge and understanding of how it works and how to edit the actual film.

Final Cut Express was really confusing at first but once you do it a few times, it is good to use. It allowed us to use cross fades, edit sound bridges into our film and helped if their was any problems with the lighting. Once finished editing, it made our film look smoother and the continuity was good.

Due to Final Cut Express, we could see if their was any glitches in our film and if we needed to sort it out. Once the film was edited all together and was running smoothly, we were able to edit our credits in, we could change the font, colour, how it was presented, giving our film the final finish it needed.

SoundAt first, we tried using Garage Band to make original music for our film but it didn’t have any effects that fitted with our film on, it was also really difficult to use as I didn’t know how to work it. Another person from the group tried to work it as well but was unable and struggled. Therefore we ended up using copyright free sound effects and songs from the internet as it was easier and less time consuming.

Google Questionnaires

We needed to create a questionnaire so we could get the audience’s feedback. It was easy to use and

was very clear, especially when the results were given back. We could upload it on to different

websites which made our audience widen.

Social Networks

I didn’t think we’d have to use social networks to broadcast our film however it was the best way as we used Facebook, Twitter, YouTube so people could watch and give feedback. These were easy to use and the video was easily converted from Final Cut Express to these websites. It helped our video gets views on YouTube and got people talking about it.
