What Have You Learned From YourAudience Feedback?

Page 2: Question 3- What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feedback?

For my three horror products, it was important to consider my target audiences ideas, opinions and suggestion in order for a successful outcome of my final products. By getting the audiences feedback during my products construction, it really helped me to create exactly what they wanted my products to include and look like. Later on, their opinions and ideas was used as a guideline and provided me with some ideas, as to what else I could have added in my horror products.It was curial that I took the audience research into account, as the audience are the consumers and my products was made for them.

Receiving feedback from my target audiences after the work has been done was useful. It told me where I did well in and where I went wrong, which helps me with any improvements I’d like to make or adjust for future reference.

Horror TRAILER Feedback}

When I finished producing my horror trailer, I have shown it to random people, all within my target audience. I took to social network like Twitter to receive some audience feedback. I chose this social network is because this is one of the most popular and successful social media website worldwide, and a lot of people who know and do not known me can comment their opinions. I manage to get audience feedback on what they thought was good about my final horror trailer, and the areas of what I could have improved on. I can now compare the audience feedback to my audience research, which I did right at the beginning of my production, and see what I have taken aboard, and what the audience liked the most in my horror trailer.

Twitter ResponsesI posted a link of my horror trailer on my Twitter page. I have received many response. All-in-all, the feedback from my followers was very positive, which I was really happy about. I did ask for their sincere opinion so hopefully they weren’t lying to be nice.Some people were trying to be really honest, which I asked for and given me some criticism, of what I could have done to make my trailer even better. Here is an image of me posting the tweet:

Examples of some of my Twitter responses}

Here I have received some positive feedback from my horror trailer, and it seems like everyone really like it. The first comment said they found my trailer scary, this is good as horror movies make my target audience fee scared, anxious and excited, according to my audience research. They also added that their favourite part was right at the end of my trailer- the extreme close up of the antagonist face, screaming loud. The purpose of this was to make the audience jump at the end , which I have achieved as they mention ‘that part made me jump the most!!’, which will make them wanting to watch the movie to find out what will happen next. Also my target audience expected me to use loads of close-up shots, that I found out when analysing my research, I have taken that aboard and used it throughout my horror trailer to create a dramatic, tense atmosphere for the audience.The second comment tells me that this person really like what I did with my antagonist character. I think they found it ‘creepy’ because they can relate to this, as most people expect something behind them when they are going upstairs at night time in the dark. They also added that the ordinary/ haunted house was a good setting to use for my trailer. I chose this setting as it was the most chosen horror setting by my target audience research, they felt that a house frightens them the most in a horror movie, and they felt that it was naturalistic and would able to relate to it, which I wanted to recreate. The third comment the person loved the scary music that I used in my trailer. One of my question in my audience research was “what sort of MUSIC would you expect in a horror film?”, the responses I received was mostly ‘scary intense music’, which I have taken into account and used it in my trailer. Also they expect to hear ‘violin/ piano/ string music’, which I have chosen well to go with the action in my trailer. For example, when the pace and tension builds up, the scary music also builds up going along with it, which creates more tension and puts the audience on the edge.

Positive Feedbacks

Page 6: Question 3- What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feedback?

Here I have received some criticism feedback as well as some positive comments. The first two responses was about the format of my horror trailer, I filmed my entire trailer portrait on an IPhone, and as I have never used IMovie before I did not realise that in IMovie you can only export and edit videos that are film only horizontal. This was my own mistake that I am going to learn from in the future the next time I create a trailer, movie or a music video. I think that most of my audience understood the situation and the problem of me not able to transform it from portrait to horizontal. However, it did not stop them leaving a positive comment at the end, in the first comment the person really liked my storyline. One of the questions I asked in my audience research was “why the watch horror movies?” and “what they expect to see in a horror trailer?”, most of them mentioned ‘a scary storyline’ that makes them really interested and remember the film. This is exactly reaction I wanted to create form my audience, as to the favourite sub-genre ‘Paranormal’ chosen by the target audience, I made sure that I include realistic scenes in my trailer that they would able to relate to. For example, the antagonist character pulling the protagonist character off the bed when asleep, and the bedroom door slamming shut by its self, I decide to do this not only that it fits in with the genre but to frighten the audience, and will make them remember my trailer. In the second feedback the positive comment the person felt that ‘the editing was amazing’. Due to my trailer format not going to plan, I needed to make sure my editing was in high quality in order to impress the audience. There is one scene when the antagonist character was crawling up the stairs, the scene flashed to white and then black as she was coming closer towards the camera. I did this similar towards the end of the trailer, but this time the scene was flashing to ‘black outs’ then to a CCTV/ TV error effect when the antagonist character was walking towards the camera, which was creating and building up dramatic, intense atmosphere for the audience, this is what they were expecting to see in my trailer. Finally the last comment the person said my “camera quality go of been better”, I think I should get a better camera to record my clips with, at least I think that’s what the respondent was trying to say. The IPhone I used was actually of a good quality, I think that it was my lightness/darkness and colour editing that made it look bad. I had to make most of my clips look like it’s night-time. I filmed all of my clips during daytime, so that the audience can actually see what’s on the screen, instead of seeing pitch black. In future reference, though, I will consider filming my clips and editing them better. However, they really liked how presented my antagonist character in my trailer. Most of my audience wanted to see someone being possessed (this is what I did), which also links to my supernatural horror genre. I tried to make the antagonist character look the scariest I could by putting dark eyes, make-up with a pale face, and her long hair almost covering her face, so that she will be remembered, and when people see her they will be frightened.
