How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Page 2: Question 2

My magazine is a mixed genre of music, to cover all areas in music.

The cover lines along the side of the front cover; Staring Miley Cyrus, Beyoncé and kesha show this. All these artists have different styles and produce different genre styles. By having a mix of different artists it supports my genre of having a mixed music magazine.

Cover lines

The cover lines target a more of a older teenage audience in the 20s. Including lifestyle activities of the younger artists in the music industry living the ‘party life’. These are stereotypically the life of teenagers in society today. Also ‘back in rehab’ tends to show what artist get up to from alcohol and taking drugs. I'm representing my magazine to a slightly older audience.

These type of cover lines would not been seen in a different genre of magazine such as ‘Pop’ because there cover lines would tend to be aimed towards a younger audience.

Cover models

The cover models in most magazine follow the main conventions.• Solo artist will have a bigger and close

up image, whereas a band or group will tend to have a long shot to fit all the members of the band or group in.

• Magazines usually have the artist looking down the camera lens in the picture. This is to get the readers to have a connection with the magazine because it looks like the artist are looking directly at you.

The picture takes up the whole page, so they usually layout the text around the artists face to cause less distraction from the image.

In the top magazine the text wraps around the artist to avoid distraction from the magazine

Below this magazine has the text slightly overlapping the picture causing the picture to be less of the main focus, however, the text does not distract from the picture.

My cover modelMany magazine staring female cover models usually objectify the female. For example the way Nicki Minaj is dressed and the way she is posing in vibe magazine supports this.

My model has a more sophisticated look. This appeals to a different target audience with a more of a mature group of people.
