How effective is the combination of your main product and

ancillary text?

In my opinion I think that my video and ancillary texts co-ordinate together well, as throughout them all I have used images of the characters that are in my video and included them on my advertisement and digipack. I have kept the style of both my ancillary texts to match each other in a similar way by keeping the two main characters of my song being the main focus of the advertisement and also being on the front of my digipack I have took screen grabs from my video of two close up’s of the girls, as I think having them as the background of my advertisement makes it striking and stands out to people who would see it.

This can be seen in these four album covers as the lead singer is the background image and main focus of all of them. There is a strong contrast between the different colours of blue that have been used throughout the digipack and advertisement as I think the texts stand out and are striking and ‘in your face’. This is what I wanted it to turn out to be like as when a person walks past the advertisement or CD cover in the shops the first thing they will do is look at what the writing says and what the album is called. This challenges the above album covers, as their text is plain and boring on Rihanna’s and Natasha Bedingfield’s cover. Although the other two album covers texts are different, I don’t think they stand out off the cover and could easily miss what they are called because of either the colour or text style.

The added images of the rain cloud’s eye watering and teardrop also adds effect to the CD cover and also links with the name of the album ‘Raindrops’ co-inciding with the name of the track I chose ‘Bruised Water’. I thought carefully about the images to use and brought them together by smudging them using the software on ‘Photoshop’ so both images flow fluently. The images along the left hand side of the digipack of the two main leads in the song show the actors as they are now giving the album and updated feel, and the right hand side images as they are in the video.

This shows how I used the image of the two girls and contrasted them in with the images of my digipack.

I used the same images on the advertisement as I wanted the characters to be recognisable as most media products today use characters in their video’s to be recognised by the public and either loved or hated, an example of this could be the character ‘Stan’ (as seen below) in Eminems videos.
