the production of our media product we never really challenged any forms and conventions of real media products. The reason for this is that we aimed to make our documentary as professional as possible and in doing this we had to stick to the typical forms and conventions of real documentaries as if we tried to go against these conventions then it would have been likely that the documentary would turn out looking unprofessional. Rule of thirds Whenever we filmed and interview or a VOX POP with someone we used the rule of thirds to frame the shot. Not only is this the standard way of creating an appealing interview shot but it is also what is used in professional documentaries when interviews are being filmed. In what way does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The reason for this is that we aimed to make our documentary as professional as possible and in doing this we had to stick to the typical forms and conventions of real documentaries as if we tried to go against these conventions then it would have been likely that the documentary would turn out looking unprofessional.

Rule of thirdsWhenever we filmed and interview or a VOX POP with someone we used the rule of thirds to frame the shot. Not only is this the standard way of creating an appealing interview shot but it is also what is used in professional documentaries when interviews are being filmed.

In what way does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

Title When editing the documentary any time a person is being interviewed for the first time we added a title in the bottom corner of the screen that would state there name and there occupation that made them relevant to the documentary. The reason we did this was because any time someone is first introduced in a professional documentary there is always a name tag that is shown somewhere in the bottom of the screen that tells the viewers who is talking.

Mise En Scene

Although this may be seen as simply using common sense, mise en scene is actually something that is thought hard about during the filming of documentaries. When we did our research in the pre production of making the documentary it was very noticeable that the mise en scene strongly related to the topic that was being discussed at the time. Therefore when we were making our documentary we thought hard about how we could make the mise on scene link in with the topic being discussed at the time in the interviews or the VOX POPS.

Voice Over/Narrator

Every professional documentary has a voice over or narrator speaking whilst the images on the screen show what the voice over/narrator is talking about. Therefore when we made our documentary we wrote a script based on what was being shown in the documentary at the time. This meant that the voice over explained to the audience what was happening on the screen.

Opening Sequence

In nearly every professional documentary, there is an opening sequence that introduces what will be shown throughout the documentary before the title sequence. Therefore when we were editing the documentary we added some VOX POPS right at the beginning and a few other cut away shots to introduce what kind of things would be shown throughout the documentary.

Print Advertisement

Before we made the print advertisement we looked into the typical layout of a Channel 4 documentary print advert. We noticed that the title of the documentary was always in the bottom corner of the image and had a box surrounding the text, the channel 4 logo is always on the right side of the image and the actual image itself is always fairly simple yet effective and it will always sum up the documentary in one picture. When we made out print advertisement we used this as inspiration and made a very similar print advert to that of a Channel 4 one.
