Page 2: Question 1

‘USE’ OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS – MAGAZINE COVER

I loved how ‘NME’ always have there

masthead in the left-hand corner as it looks simple and aesthetic

I also love how ‘Billboard’

normally have their cover lines down the left hand side as it allows there to be a more of a

focus on the picture. I also had the idea of using a variety of fonts for

the cover lines from ‘Bilboard’

Within this ‘Billboard’ magazine cover they

have not just used 1-2 colours as a colour theme but instead have used a

much broader colour theme focusing on the colour pink. Similarly, I

have also used a broader colour scheme focusing

on burgundy.

Page 3: Question 1

‘DEVELOPING’ REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS–MAGAZINE COVER

I have developed real media products such as this one.I have not added in any banners or extra pictures or long taglines.to the cover. I have developed

this as by making a page look busy with things such as extra pictures and banners there is a manic nature associated with it. This would be perfect if the genre of my magazine was rock however it is folk/ indie, which is often associated with a casual calm nature therefore a busy

double page spread would not be appropriate.

Page 4: Question 1

‘CHALLENGE’ REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS–MAGAZINE COVER

I believe I have challenged forms of real media products as I have created a magazine which is explicitly for the indie/folk genre. I think this because in my research I did not come across any music magazines that were associated with just folk music. As featured above on both ‘Rolling Stone’ and ‘Billboard’ the artist Taylor Swift is of a folk/indie genre, however the magazines

have fitted her into the magazines popular style. For example ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine is associated with rock music and Taylor is made to look quite rocky and edgy. I wanted to challenge

this and create a magazine that explicitly presents artists of a folk/indie genre, especially as these genres are very up and coming.

Page 5: Question 1

‘USE’ OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS – CONTENTS

Within this Q contents page

their use of bold lines make it

visually effective. I also incorporated this into my

contents page.

I love this layout as I think it was clear

and effective, I used this as a

stimulus layout for my contents page

Overall, I used examples of Q’s contents pages as

I think they are really effective., especially

because of the simple colour scheme of 3

colours. I also did this for my contents page.

Page 6: Question 1

‘DEVELOPING’ REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS–CONTENTS

I used this layout as a stimulus for my own contents page. However I developed a few

thing to do with it.

I added a bold box to highlight the

masthead.I did this as I

believed it fitted in with my aesthetic

design.I developed the colour scheme as I used the idea of a

simple colour scheme but just

kept it to 2 colours to enhance a

indie/folk feel.

I developed the thickness of these

lines as I wanted to even up the

heaviness of the page as I had

added in the bold black box at the top of this page. So I made sure to

carry it on throughout.

Page 7: Question 1

‘CHALLENGE’ REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS–CONTENTS

I believe I have challenged forms of real media products within making my contents page as many current contents page have the main pictures of the magazines feature article, for example

is this ‘Vibe’ contents page. However my cover story is situated in the bottom left hand corner and is a smaller picture than others on the page. I challenged this because I felt that the

magazine cover attracts the audience already to the cover story, therefore the contents page should aim to attract the audience to other articles. This will mean that the audience will be

attracted to read other articles and not just the cover story one, if they enjoy these other articles this may mean that they buy my magazine again.

Page 8: Question 1

‘USE’ OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS – DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

I used this layout of a double page spread as inspiration for my double page spread as I believed it would fit perfectly with the indie/folk genre of my magazine. I used the same font and put it in a similar layout. I also used the idea of having a photo over the whole

of the double page spread. This is because I believe that it is very aesthetically pleasing, therefore fitting into the specific style of the folk genre.

Page 9: Question 1

‘DEVELOPING’ REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS–CONTENTS

I developed this media product as I added columns of text. I developed this as I think that is important that there is text on a double page spread, otherwise it may be seen as a waste of a page. I believe that putting text on a page like this means that the text is

easier to follow as due to photo in the background, there is an illusion upon the audience that there is not a daunting amount of text therefore not putting the audience off.

‘CHALLENGE’ REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS–CONTENTS

I challenged real media products such as this one.I have not added in any banners or extra pictures or long taglines. I have challenged this as by

making a page look busy with things such as extra pictures and banners there is a manic nature associated with it. This would be perfect if the genre of my magazine was rock however it is folk/ indie, which is often associated with a casual calm nature therefore a busy double page spread

would not be appropriate.
