1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The masthead on the front cover of my magazine is big, bold and matches the colours of the front cover. Also it goes across the top of the page just like the masthead on the Vibe magazine.

All of my cover lines are in the left third of the magazine and also has the bar code at the bottom. Also the colours used match my front cover. This is just like the cover lines and barcode layout on the vibe magazine, however, my media product develops forms and conventions of real media products because all of my cover lines are big and bold making them easier to read where as only a few of the cover lines on the Vibe magazine are big and bold.

Another feature on my magazine uses forms and conventions of real media products is that I mentioned various artists names, mentioned the name of the artist that was on the front cover and also used a header.

My media product develops forms and conventions of real products because it has a puff/pug on it. This is something that has not been added onto the Vibe magazine. The main image that I used on the front cover of my magazine uses and develops forms and conventions of real media products because in the Vibe magazine the person on the front cover is only showing half his body, whereas on my front cover, the person is showing almost all of their body.

Page 2: Question 1

1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The title on my contents challenges forms and conventions of real media products because on my contents the title is bold and matches the colours scheme whereas on the other magazine the title is small and basic with a small font size which doesn’t make it as easy to read. Also another feature on my music magazine that I used which is used on real media products is that I included the date.

The contents layout on my music magazine uses the same form and convention of real media products because the colours are the same and it goes all the way down to the bottom of the page.

My media product challenges forms and conventions of real media products because on my magazine, the picture I used is very small and is at the bottom of the page, whereas on the other magazine, the image is very big because it is used in a way as the background of the contents page. I am challenging this form because instead of using a really big image as the background of the contents page, I decided to use a small one and add it to the bottom of the magazine.

Another feature that I used on my magazine which is a form and convention of real media products is that I added the name of the artists at the bottom of the contents.

Page 3: Question 1

1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The title that I decided to use on my double page spread was the artists name. I chose to do this because my magazine article was going to be about the artist so I decided to make the title link with the article. This uses and develops forms and conventions used in real media products because I just use the artists name and nothing else whereas in real media products, the publishers decide to write a small fact about the person in the article. For example, in this media product, the publishers wrote ‘The Most Exciting People in Music JAY-Z’ whereas on my article I just wrote ‘Mr P’ which is the name of the artist.

Another feature that I used on my media product which is used on real media product is that I made the first letter of the entire article stand out, this was because I wanted to show to the readers where the article started from. However instead of making each letter at the beginning of each paragraph a bigger font, I just chose the starting point whereas on the other magazine every new paragraph has had its first letter made bigger than the rest of the font. Another feature that I never added on my media product is an image behind the text. I chose not to do this because I wanted the article to be easily readable without any background disturbance.

Another way that my media product uses and challenges forms and conventions of real media products is that on my magazine I used two pictures, one by itself on the left side and another picture between the article whereas on the other magazine there is only one big image which takes up all of the space available on the left side of the double page spread.
