Page 1: Question 1

In what ways does your media product use,

develop or challenge forms and conventions of

real media products?

Page 2: Question 1

The title of the magazine:

The top left is my music magazine title, ‘Noise’ and to the right is the popular ‘NME’ music magazine. I chose my magazine to have the

same style ‘genre’ as NME. I chose the name ‘Noise’ because of the music genre that I am trying to show through. I also think that the bright red colour and capitals of the title, like NME also represent my music genre quite well. I thought that the capital letters and the bright colouring of my title would by eye catching if it were on a shelf in a shop and that people would

notice it and pick it up for this reason.

Page 3: Question 1

Mise-en-scene of images:To the left is my magazine cover and to the right of it

is an NME cover. I liked the handwritten writing of

the NME cover so I decided to use it in my

own magazine. I also like the large facial image as the front cover and so I

also tried to achieve this as well. I tried to achieve

the pop outs and just moved it down so that it didn’t cover the eyes. I added my own personal idea onto my magazine cover by adding a photo of Pixie Lott that I had

taken at a concert.

I also added the list of bands along the bottom, as on the NME magazine they were along the top and so I thought it

would be a good idea to feature these on my cover.

Costumes and Props:

From research into other magazines, I noticed that the colours of what the people in them are wearing are extremely bright and eye-catching,

however I think I did mine a little differently. I had a dark background with my images brightened with a light with very bright writing on them

instead, as I think this made it look different yet still very interesting, and a little edgy.

Page 5: Question 1

People:

I noticed that on NME covers the people were the same type of ‘edgy’ looking people and that they all looked quite serious or quirky. I thought

that I added the quirkiness with the glasses and the slight smile however it was also quite serious with the focus on the face. I edited

this picture so that it didn’t get lost with the brightness of the title and the other advertisements surrounding it.

Page 6: Question 1

The title of the magazine:

To the left is my magazine font and to the right is the magazine font for ‘NME’. I think they look quite similar with how simplistic they both

are, and brightness of the red, even though I have altered mine slightly. I outlined mine to make it more eye-catching, however I did

add my own twist to it by making it look quite eroded.

Page 7: Question 1

Written Context:

I thought about the layout of my page and realised that I needed little bits that broke up the text a little bit, and gave the reader

something else to look at. I added the four pictures down the left, and I like the background behind it to make it look like a photo film. I then added the reviews on the right and added a bright

orange for the background to make it look more appealing. I am happy with my title as I like the variation between the fonts and

the capitals and lower case lettering.

Page 8: Question 1

Music genre and how your magazine suggests it:

The genre of my music magazine is indie/rock. However I did add in Pixie Lott, because I think that she would appeal to some

of my target audience as she is well known in the media. I chose models who I thought fitted my genre, and didn’t look

the same as everybody else.

I have also made sure that my magazine suggests my music genre by putting the lists of bands that would feature in my magazine on the front cover and the contents page. This immediately appeal to

my target audience and form a link between the bands and my magazine.

Page 9: Question 1

Layout:I tried to create my magazine from the features on the NME

magazine, for instance with the large bright title and headline,

and the handwritten text. I thought that it would be better

to try and copy an original magazine rather than try to do something different and people

be wary of this.

I made my magazine similar to my style model in many different ways. Firstly, I made my title bright red and in an easy to read font, but added my own touch with the eroded look to it. I then made my subtitle ‘Rustie

Halo’ in a bright colour as well so that it would stand out amongst the page. I also included a handwritten subheading like my style model was. I

added a ‘Plus!’ like my style model had an ‘Exclusive’ and included a circular pop out also similar to my style model. I finally did a list of bands along the bottom, as my style model had a list of bands along the top.

Page 10: Question 1

Contents Page:

I originally used a fashion magazine template as I really liked the colour scheme and organised

layout, however I personalised it to make it

look like a music magazine. I added in

some of the feature from an NME magazine, for

instance the Band Index and the ‘Subscribe’

I also tried to copy the content list layout, for instance with the block colour background and the bold print on top of them, making the titles stand out more. I added in a feature about the person that I was doing

my double page spread on, ‘Rustie Halo’ and also an advertisement for another artist, with the heading as ‘Our Secret Star’ which would

hopefully make the readers curious and want to read on.
