As Celebrity Cruises enters a new era of larger ships and higher capacity, don't mourn just yet for the little cruise line offering personalized service. After all, no one believed that Celebrity could maintain its standards with the birth of its Millennium-class ships, and it managed quite nicely, adding a series of enhancements that pleased even the most stalwart Celebrity smaller-ship fans.
It's true, though, that both of Celebrity's new ships—Solstice and Equinox—will come in at 118,000 tons, bigger than even the largest ships in Carnival's fleet. Debuting in 2008 and 2009 respectively, these two ships aim to rock the notion that a cruise line positioning itself in the "premium" market must keep its ships small and cozy. (Both are about 30 percent larger than the line's Millennium-class ships.) What's even more surprising about this aggressive new-build program is that both ships are post-Panamax, meaning they will be unable to transit the Panama Canal—and thus also unable to transition between the Caribbean and Alaska, two of Celebrity's itinerary staples.

The Costa fleet sails under the "Cruising Italian Style" banner, thus offering a product that combines
the sophisticated elegance of a European vacation with the spirit—not to mention sumptuous cuisine, authentic wine, and warm décor—of the line's Italian heritage. Costa's international family of ships spans the globe, offering cruises of seven days and longer throughout the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, and northern Europe, plus offering some transatlantic sailings.

Crystal Cruises offers an intriguing hybrid style of cruise experience. The line is decidedly upscale,
but its ships, unlike its luxury niche competitors, are big ones, each carrying 940 or more passengers. Founded in 1990, Crystal has two ships in its fleet: the 940-passenger Crystal Symphony and the 1,080-passenger Crystal Serenity, which introduced new Crystal signature features. These include a sushi bar; second paddle tennis court; boardroom with wine cellar; and indoor/outdoor pool (in addition to the standard centerpiece pool). Fantasia, the children's facility, is state-of-the-art, and keynote facilities, such as the Computer University@Sea and the spa, have been expanded. And 85 percent of its oceanview cabins have balconies.
Taking to the seas with more than 20 ships in its fleet, Carnival Cruise Lines provides vacation experiences for 3.6 million travelers per year. Carnival adopts an attitude of fun, and its passenger base—mostly social, gregarious travelers—also exude this quality. Ships feature activities for all age groups and interest levels, whether passengers wish to splash around at the Water Works Park or unwind at Spa Carnival.
Today, on board you’ll discover a new world of choice from amazing amenities to a vast array of entertainment and activities. And you’ll find the unexpected like barista courses, circus classes, Bootcamp at Sea* and Chapters Book Club. Your tastebuds will be in for a culinary sensation with new menus, and on Pacific Jewel, we introduce our first celebrity chef – Luke Mangan.
On board Pacific Jewel, Pacific Dawn, Pacific Sun and Pacific Pearl (arriving late 2010) you’ll have the choice of new itineraries and destinations, more variety and a whole new level of cruising. Seabourn Cruise Line is part of Carnival Corporation, whose seven cruise lines are members of the "World's Leading Cruise Lines" marketing group. Seabourn markets its ships as "The Yachts of Seabourn," and the ultra luxury ships do in fact feel like private yachts; or, more aptly, private clubs. The 208-passenger sister ships Seabourn Legend, Seabourn Pride, and Seabourn Spirit are nearly identical, and all create an intimate environment where wealthy passengers can unwind with their peers, enjoy fine dinner cuisine and solicitous service, and visit exotic ports around the world.
