The Tyler Chamber’s Hispanic Business Alliance is hosting an international soccer exhibition on Friday, July 1 at Rose Stadium between the Monterrey Rayados (Reservas) from Mexico and a semi-pro East Texas All Stars team, whose players represent high school and collegiate soccer players from various East Texas communities. The exhibition on Friday, July 1, “Fútbol de la Rosas 2011,” will kick- off with an autograph session, open to the public, at 2 pm at Rose Stadium, followed by the first game starting at 6 pm and the second game at 8 pm. Tickets will be sold in advance at the Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce lobby starting on Monday, June 27. Ticket prices for both games are $12 for ages 12 and up, $6 for ages 6 to 11 years old and under age 6, free. Tyler will be the first city that the Monterrey team will play in an exhibition game. They are scheduled to play in several cities in the South. Super 1 Foods and Brookshire’s are the Gold Soccer Ball sponsors for the exhibition. Emily Guevara was honored at the Texas State Teacher Assocation Convention in El Paso on April 15. Ms. Guevara received the School Bell Award for outstanding feature story in public education. The AssocIation’s members and staff nominated her for the statewide competition award. Ms. Guevara has covered education for the Tyler Morning Telegraph for more than a year. She was born and raised in San Antonio and attended Texas A&M University, receiving a Journalism degree in 2006. Previously she worked for the Beaumont Enterprise. Audit Proof tips for the Self-employed

If you are self-employed filing a Schedule C with your personal tax return, the chances of being audited are greater. The IRS suspects that you will attempt to either hide income or write off personal expenses as business deductions. According to various reports, audits of the self-employed are on the rise. Here are some tips on how to decrease your chances of being audited: ·- Use a professional software system to track income and expenses. - Document red flags. You are allowed to deduct ordinary and necessary business expenses but always ask the question, “Would I make this purchase if I didn’t have this business?” If the answer is NO, you more than likely have a deductible business expense.- Doument all sources of income. If you are audited, the IRS will add up all of the deposits from your personal and business bank accounts.
