Questions of the Week September 22, 2019 Gospel

How do we use what God has given us?

Question for Children: Clothes, food, toys all cost money. How do you keep your faith more important than money? Question for Youth: The Gospel tells us that money can get in the way of serving God. How can you use all that you have (possessions, money, time, talent) to serve God?

Question for Adults: Money is an important part of modern life. Sug-gest one or two ways you can keep the need for money in balance with your faith.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina Fun Facts

Padre Pio was born with the name Francesco

Forgione, in Pietrelcina, Italy on May 25, 1887.

As a young boy, Francesco could see and speak to

his Guardian Angel, Jesus and Mary.

Francesco chose the “Pio” in honor of Saint Pius I,

whose relic he saw often in a local chapel.

Saint Pio had the gift of bilocation. He could be seen

in multiple places at one time.

Shepherd’s Call

A major headline this week is GM workers going on strike. Since the close of the Fisher Body plant in 1988, it

likely has less direct impact on our area. It might cause one to wonder, “What does the Church teach about un-

ions and strikes?” “Does the Church teach anything in this regard?” The Church, indeed, has much to say. To-

day’s first reading (Amos; 700 B.C.) shows that God has long been concerned about honest pay for honest work.

The Church recognizes that workers have a right to band together to advocate for a just wage.

I am on retreat Monday through Thursday this week. Friday evening (the 27th) I will celebrate a Mass in honor of

St. Michael the Archangel, whose feast day is the 29th. The Mass will be in Spanish as it is a popular devotion in

the region of Oaxaca, Mexico. Even so, it is a reminder for all of us to invoke this powerful agent of God, recog-

nizing that there are spiritual powers that underlie many causes of unrest in our day. The name Michael means,

“Who is like God?”

Looking ahead, there are Saturday events coming up. On October 5 there is a women’s day of reflection. RSVP if

you are interested. On October 12 there is a Rosary Rally at the side lot of St. Julie’s beginning at noon. It is one

of over 10,000 Rosary Rallies that will take place at noon in each time zone across the country. Please consider

joining us.

I am currently looking for volunteers to lead a weekly discussion as part of preparation for Marian Consecration

on December 8.

We now have a Holy Hour with Eucharistic Exposition from 7-8pm every Tuesday at one of the parishes in the

region! This week the Holy Hour will be at St. Peter’s.

What a joy to know, love, and serve the good God.

In Christ,

Baptism: If you have an infant to be baptized, please call one of the parish offices.

Marriage: Schedule through

Father Rob.

Anointing of the Sick: If you or a loved one are in the hospital or expecting sur-gery, call one of the parish offices. In an emergency, call 513-773-4419.

New to the parish? Questions about the Catholic faith? Is God leading you to be Catholic? Schedule an appointment with Father Rob.

New to the area? Recently out of college? Register with the parish near you.

RCIA

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO…

Has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? Has a school-aged child who has not been baptized? Was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not

celebrated the Sacraments of Confirmation or Eucharist? Contact Mary Richter, 863-1040 x *817, or email [email protected] for more information.

RCIA Have you ever wondered what the catechumens do after they are dismissed from Mass? Stop by Dot’s House and find out! Do you want to share your love for Jesus and our beautiful Catholic faith, but you don’t know how? Stop by Dot’s House and find out! The RCIA process needs people just like you to help in a variety of ways. Come and see what it’s all about. Contact Mary Richter or Father Rob to talk about ways you can help the RCIA process.

Living Stones

St. Vincent de Paul Each parish of our pastoral region has its own chapter for St. Vincent de Paul. St. Vincent de Paul is a lay organization of volunteers that provide assistance to those in need within each parishes’ boundaries. Members, called Vincentians, grow

spiritually and develop Christian friendships serving as intermediaries between those able to help and those needing help. St. Vincent de Paul needs people with time to serve. St. Julie’s chapter meets on Monday nights, St. Peter meets on Monday & Thursday mornings, and St. Joseph is TBD. Everyone has something to offer. Everyone has room to grow. Call your parish office to get more information.

First Communion/First Reconciliation Parent Meeting or St. Peter in Chains and St. Julie Billiart Parishes and PREP All parents of children who were in a faith formation program last year and want to prepare for the sacraments of First Ho-ly Communion & Reconciliation have a meeting to attend this Sunday, September 22. The meeting for our English speaking parents will be in St. Julie’s Church and the meeting for our Spanish speaking parents will be in the Fenmont. Fr. Rob Muhlenkamp and Uriel Santos will be discussing the sacraments. Important preparation materials and dates will be shared. Contact Mary Pat Austing at 863-1040 with any questions.

It’s Not too Late to sign up for PREP Grandparents, Godparents, moms and dads, guardians….please bring your children to classes held in the Fenmont at St. Julie’s on Sunday mornings. We have class every Sunday from 10:30 to 11:30 am at 229 N. 3rd St. for children in grades Kin-dergarten thru grade 12. Children must attend classes for a full year prior to the year they prepare for a sacrament. Confir-mation will be in the Spring of 2021, so students must be in class this year. So far we have over 165 children coming to clas-ses. Come let us help you pass on our Catholic Faith, our love of our Lord! Email or Call Mary Pat Austing today with any questions. Contact information is in this bulletin.

Your Talents could be put to Good Use! Our wonderful PREP Catechists and CLOW presenters need substitute teachers once in a while. Could you support our young families and help teach a lesson once in a while? Call Mary Pat Austing to discuss the possibilities. All volunteers will need to take the VIRTUS Child Protection Seminar which provides important information for anyone with children in their lives.

Thanks to all our Catechists and aides who came up to be blessed last weekend at Catechetical Sunday. Please keep them in your prayers as they prepare their lessons and carry out the mission of our Church.

Upcoming Events: FIRE DRILL at PREP on Sunday, Oct. 6 Please be on the look out on St. Julie Church grounds when the children practice the drill.

PREP BAKESALE on Oct. 19/20 at all Masses at St. Julie. The funds raised go to RICE BOWL, Catholic Relief Services, Preg-nancy Center East and other needy causes. Please come by the main entrance to church to get some sweet treats.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY OF THE WORD CLOW is a marvelous way for our young children to hear the Gospel on their level. We have marvelous volun-teers at St. Pete and at St. Julie and soon at St. Joe’s who can share God’s Good News with them during Mass. When you see the adult presenter hold up the red Lectionary, please send your child to process to the CLOW room with them. Parents are welcome to come and check out Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Come and see what it is like. It is usually offered at one Mass during the weekend.

2019 SPS Walk-a-Thon, Eagles Rock! St. Peter in Chains School’s EPIC, our parent-teacher collaboration, will be hosting the 11th annual Walk-a-Thon Wednesday, October 9th, 2019. The Walk-a-Thon Committee is currently seeking private donors and corporate sponsors. With this fundraiser, EPIC has provided integral support for the school and set it on the path to continued success. For the first time, St. Peter in Chains School, in partnership with the Great Miami Valley YMCA, is offering preschool and a year-round early childhood learning center, which provides parents with a Christ-centered educational option and nurturing childcare. EPIC supported this development, which includes the first phase of a multi-year plan to air condition the school. EPIC funds are also being used to reimagine our science lab, create an outdoor learning space, upgrade furnishings in classrooms and other areas, enhance student technology, fund field trips, and much more. With your generosity, EPIC will continue to help St. Peter in Chains School shine with Christ’s light for all to see. Corporate sponsors will need to be identified by Monday, September 23, 2019, to ensure their recognition on t-shirts and other materials. We hope to have all donations by Monday, October 7, 2019. Donor/Sponsor commitment forms may be found in the back of the church or you can donate online at: https://stpeterinchains.weshareonline.org/ws/opportunities/WalkathonDonations If you want your donation to support a specific child or family, please add that name in the comments. Please contact Kelly Heile, (513) 455-0139, or [email protected] for more details.
