Label Biography

Founded in Amsterdam in 2009, Quartz Lock Records is guided by integrity - focusing only on high quality releases, new musical possibilities, and giving hard-working artists a home where they still matter. The label has gained prominence in 2010 with sizzling releases from label founders’ Quartz People along with L.O.K.I., Black Plug, and Portland.

Currently based in Florida, the label continues its relentless quest for the latest sounds wherever they may be found with raw, nitro-charged tracks that blend the confdent swagger of outlaw rock & roll and the unwavering precision of cutting edge techno together. The sound is one-of-a-kind, with each release offering some highly original twists and turns.

The label has gathered big name support for their unique style from the very beginning, fnding supporters in dance music heavyweights like Dubfre, Chris Fortier, and Paco Osuna on every record to date.

QUARTZ PEOPLE (Dj's / Producer)

Both graduates of SAE Amsterdam Audio Department Vitor and Raf became fascinated by the precision with which studio equipment was synced together to perform better in the creation of their product.

They want to apply the same concept in their effort to synchronize with their audience.

Estonian-born DJ/producer Raf Levin is constantly raising the standard for electronica deejays, spinning a unique hybrid of powerful progressive end electro house, Vitor Fernandes is creative in the decks with precise beat matching and key mixing. Together they continue to captivate any room!

Quartz People has played in Miami, Netherlands, Portugal, South Africa and intent to know the world! From the smallest to the biggest parties they will raise the roof with powerfull Tech House, progressive and Techno beats.

At the age of 18, he enrolled in Old School (phrenetic society). At that time, quite young, he was playing in different clubs in Madrid standing out prominently from the rest of the DJs, accompanying himself on his favorite tool “Final Scratch” since then.

When he was 19 he played in the well-known “Soma Experimental Club”, a reference place for electronic music in Madrid’s nightlife. He then started to play in other cities in Spain. He began to organize tech-house events in different Clubs in Madrid gaining great success.

Alisio Delgado decided to move to London. It is there where he began to experiment with new electronic sounds especially with minimal style performing live acts. In 2006 he left the British Capital returning to Madrid to create Mad-Mail projects with Pablo Gonzalez and David Garcia. He focused his performances at the end of that year in “Flash Dance” club in Madrid.

In 2007 he decided to move to Amsterdam, Netherlands where he continued his studies of sound engineering. He was involved in several projects especially with surround sound. “Night in my mind” was his most successful project during that time. At the end of the year he moved to Berlin, one the most important cities in the electronic music scene.

L.O.K.I (Dj's / Live Act / Producers)

L.O.K.I. is a live-act for the dance foor, an electronic music project created by Pedro Freixo and Jorge Tchacha, both of whom have a history tied to electronic composition. At the start of 2008 they launched their frst tracks and debuted to a Portuguese audience and have frequently played throughout Portugal ever since.

The concert works as a whole, consistent, uniform and surprising. It’s born of the fusion between a techno-leaning style, unsettling beats and sweeping melodies, with a robustness such as that of the analogue equipment that delivers it.

The concept of mutation is inherent to L.O.K.I., with the live-acts assuming various forms, for which the artists always prepare and embody a new and bold performance,always with the unique sound that characterizes their music.

BLACK PLUG (Dj / Live Act / Producers)

Black Plug is a collaboration between four Italian top Dj’s and musicians. Each one with different musical backgrounds, these guys have several Live and Dj experiences. During the last decade they have played all over Italy.

Das Kamel, dj and audio engineer, Simon Tailor dj and musician, Berryson graphic designer, model and singer and Too-Sick dj and producer met each other during an electronic music festival in their hometown Urbino.

From their friendship they started to work towards, the alias “Black Plug”, and its Summer massacre E.P.” Their frst release with Quartz Lock records consists of two songs: “0-0″ and “Drive by M”.“0-0″ is a pumping’ electronic slammer with hard sounds and explicit lyrics, “Drive by M” is a catchy techno stormer with fat beats and a killer hook.

PORTLAND (Dj / Live / Producer)Being from a family full of musicians he was always involved with music. His infuences when he was young were rock bands from 70′s to grunge of the 90′s… But he fell in love with electronic music with the Chemical Brothers, and Prodigy in the late 90′s. In his own words, “Dig your own whole” by the Chemical Brothers “got him hooked”.

He learned how to mix while working in an online radio station located in Miami Beach. During this experience he met Raf Levin from Quartz Lock Records and made their frst track together. Following the music path he studied audio engineering at SAE in Australia, complementing his studies with flmmaking at SAE, London.

Currently Portland lives in Bogota, Colombia where he works as an assistant director for a publicity and advertising production company. He also produces jingles and runs a studio for audio post-production. During his free time he’s always making music. Anything from House to Drum and Bass where he is well known as “Option”.

ELINA (Live Act / Singer / Producer)

Born in Minsk, Belarus, Elina started classical piano at the age of four. By nine, she moved to Miami, FL continuing her musical life, dominated by the classical world.

After years of roller coasters, playing piano turned into song writing, which led Elina into starting a soft rock band called The Breakup Season. Even thought it was short lived, the band played around Miami's hottest nighclubs such as Transit Lounge, Tobacco Road, and Van Dykes Cafe. The experience led her music to be heard and picked up by Raoul Music Productions company in Amsterdam, recording her frst single and video, Book of Lies.

This opportunity has taken Elina's music to a foreign route of electronic music scene. She took a new direction and collaborated with Raf Levin, Funky Junction and Johnny A. to create a new track, Need Your Love, released on Quartz Lock Records and Sheeva Records. JOHNNY A (Dj / Producer)

Russian-born DJ/producer Johnny A. spins an aggro mix of peak hour house, progressive, and after hours tech-house. Jumping and dancing behind the decks, he fnds a passionate release in his music, one that can amp any crowd into a frenzy.

Johnny A.’s passion for music comes from his travels around the world – from Israel, where he loved the pop music of the late Eighties and early Nineties to stops in Paris, Germany, Canada, and now the United States where he’s been exposed to techno, house, alternative, hip-hop, and the countless other genres that make up his core infuences. He’s been DJ’ing professionally since 2000 playing all over the United States including: Passions at the Hard Rock Casino (Hollywood, Fl), Mekka (Miami), Voodoo Lounge residency Ft. Lauderdale), Roxy (Boston), Avalon, and Show (New York City), Circus, Highlands, White Lotus (Los Angeles), The Church (Denver) – and that’s barely denting the hundreds of other places he’s played. He’s also done a Bacardi DJ tour – 36 clubs in 12 major US cities as well as running Anarchy Productions, one the top club marketing and promotion companies. In that time, he’s shared the booth with some of dance music’s elite: Scumfrog, D:Fuse, Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, Austin Leeds, to name but a few.

Currently based in Miami, Johnny has set-up a world-class home studio to kick-start his production career. His debut release hit the charts in June this year on Quartz Lock Records; climbing all the way to number 21 on top Progressive downloads and making Johnny A. a household name in the dance music community.

In addition to his residency at Gryphon Hard Rock Casino, he hopes to tour around the world in support of the Quartz Lock release in 2011.

His frst release under the name Places, is to be released on all major digital stores by the end of September 2011. which reveals a deep connection and a mixture between Progressive, Psy Trance and Tech House,

RAFI LEVIN (DJ / PRODUCER)

Estonian-born DJ and producer Raf Levin spins a unique hybrid of powerful progressive and electro house. Within the electronic music industry, Levin has built a reputation as not only a successful DJ but also as a promoter. He is also co-owner of the rising young label Quartz Lock Records.

His resume includes spearheading some of the best club promotional teams including Nerve, Steam and The Marlin. As a DJ, he has also graced the decks of hot spots across the US including Boston’s The Roxy, Highlands in Los Angeles, Atlanta’s Compound, as well as South Beach’s Rain, Nerve, Steam, Blue, and Pawn Shop. Levin used those skills while based in Amsterdam to put together a series of eclectic events called UMBRELLA with live bands in the evening and Quartz Lock artists at night. The parties built a devoted follow and Levin honed his razor sharp DJ skills there. Now residing in Miami, he has also produced his own music with Justin Johnson, Funky Junction, Aquabooty, DHM, DJ Booggee, Vitaly to name a few.

Levin is also one half of the production duo Quartz People with releases out on Quartz Lock Records and San Francisco’s Cable Recordings. He and musical partner Vitor Fernandes combine their skill and experience in electronica, psychedelic trance, and rock to introduce a powerful, progressive source of dance music. A revelation that has developed from the two musical masterminds is the result of the passion, precision, and profciency it takes to perform at another level, bringing an innovative sound and a massive vibe. Through their aspirations of enhancing the hottest sounds and rhythms with their extensive audio knowledge of studio equipment, Quartz People are on the way to becoming a shaping force in the industry.
