Message from the Mayor, Dale Graunke It was just one year ago that the City was bracing for a sig‐ nificant flood event. Last February, the National Weather Service warn‐ ing were pretty extreme, signaling the potential for a major flood. Thankfully, due to the hard work of many, the community was prepared and the weather worked in our favor to avoid major damages. This year, the National Weather Service pre‐ dictions are much different. Delano is fore‐ casted with less than a 20% chance of reaching major flood levels. While this is good news for all those impacted by flooding, it is important not to put the possibility out of our minds. The City continues to take steps and precau‐ tions to improve its infrastructure and flood readiness. Discussions and preliminary plan‐ ning are underway for a more permanent downtown flood wall and the City is seeking grant funds for lift stations to help in flood events. Likewise, community members should also use this spring as a reminder of the potential that exists with the river in town and stay pre‐ pared. If this spring gives the City a break from flooding, use it as an opportunity to plan and prepare for a future event.
