E-Commerce an important driver of the new economy in Egypt

A recent report in the Wall Street Journal points out that while the internet played a big role in the Arab Spring, inspiring a whole new generation of activists, it is now helping an increasing number of people to meet their financial aspirations in the Arab countries. With the rise of smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices that have become an integral part of our lifestyle, making it convenient to do everything from book tickets to ordering food online, e-commerce has become a game changer in an economy struggling to get back on its feet. Mr. Haldun ARIN- Chief Operating Officer for QNET-one of Asia’s leading direct selling companies that uses e-commerce at its core, attributes the company’s successful expansion into the MENA region to the power of e-commerce. In a study published by Visa, the global financial services company recently, Egypt ranks as No.1 in the entire MENA region in e-sales with USD 3.2 billion worth transactions in 2011. Egypt currently has an internet penetration rate of over 35% and this is expected to grow by 40% annually, the Visa study showed. With

Ghada Hamdan is not an actress, or singer, or any kind of celebrity. The majority of the public may not know her name, but in the direct selling industry, she is considered a star. One of the most successful women in the industry in the MENA region, QNET is proud to introduce Egypt’s Ghada Hamdan as the Regional Ambassador (MENA) for skin care and beauty products. Ghada was a marketing executive in a multinational company in Dubai just a few years ago, struggling to make ends meet. She was a single mother fighting to give her daughter the best life she could. She took more than one job just to pay her bills. She was miserable working in her corporate, nine-to-five job and on her 32nd birthday promised herself that by her next birthday, she would be running her own business. A chance encounter led her to buy a jewelry product from QNET following which she decided to take up a business opportunity to promote more products from QNET. That was four years ago. Today, she leads her own team, Diamonds and is one of QNET’s top female distributors, known as Independent Representatives (IRs) in the Middle East and North Africa region. When asked how she did this in just four years, she replied "I fell in love with QNET and worked at it consistently, everyday. I burned all the ties holding me back and put them behind me." It was because of her determination and courage to never give up, she is now at the top of her game, helping others like her to break down their financial barriers. She did all this while also managing to look good and feel good with gorgeous skin.

The Physio Radiance skincare range was one of the first products of QNET that she tried. Like many people, Ghada was also wary of the visible effects of ageing and was worried about subjecting her skin to harsh chemicals. The other critical ingredient in this product range is the brown algae fucoïdan found in Okinawa Island in Japan. Marussia F1 Team drives Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi took time off from preparing for the weekend to join the QNET team at the Rashid Paediatric Therapy centre in Dubai that provides high quality education and therapy to children with special needs. The centre is supported by QNET as part of its CSR initiatives in the UAE. Max Chilton and Jules Bianchi spent a few hours with the children dancing and interacting with them. FORMULA 1 ETIHAD AIRWAYS ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX® has established itself as Middle East’s biggest event which is set to be the standout sporting event of the year. The event has attracted big companies’ sponsorship from all over the world and is viewed by hundreds of millions worldwide. Based on statistics released by Formula One Management (FOM), aside from spectators at the circuits, the television audience itself increased to 527 million viewers in the 2010 season, regarded as one of the most thrilling in recent years with over 16,000 hours of coverage broadcast to 187 countries. This year sees the F1® After-Race Concerts extended to four fantastic nights of music with some of the world’s biggest artists. Adding local flavour to the weekend is the addition of an Arabic After-Race concert on October 31, featuring Egypt’s very own Amr Diab, who will be joined by local singer Hussain Al Jassmi and Lebanese superstar Elissa. The three Arabic stars join an international line- up featuring for the first time in the Middle East,

Success of QNET shows how people without a business background can do well

The direct selling model shows how people without a business background can learn skills and attitudes to provide significant additional income an industry player says JR Mayer, Managing Director of Asian Direct Selling company QNET, who wasin the UAE to support the Marussia F1 Team at the Etihad Abu Dhabi Formula 1 Grand Prix®, where his company is the Official Direct Selling Partner to the team, said direct selling or network marketing is perfect for all nationalities and genders regardless of business acumen. "Distributors get paid according to their output. It is fair and equal and because of the flexibility of time. We have also found that women are particularly successful in network marketing. They are excellent communicators, are good at relating to people, have endurance, do not give up easily, and are great multi-taskers,” he said. Globally, Network Marketing (NM), a popular method of Direct Selling, has been around for more than 50 years and in most first world countries, it is a highly regulated industry, recognised by governments as a legitimate business that contributes to the local economies. Regionally, it is interesting to note that the Direct Selling business is making inroads into many emerging economies, especially in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This is confirmed by the WFDSA report that states that the industry is seeing a strong growth in emerging economiesaround the world, demonstrating the solid economic and entrepreneurial opportunity direct selling offers to people from all walks of life.

Mayer said according to the World Federation of Direct Selling Associations (WFDSA), which represents direct selling associations from more than 60 countries, the market size of the industry globally grew 5 per cent last year to hit US$153 billion in sales. He said globally, 90 million people are involved in the direct selling business. Ranked in the top 30 direct selling companies in the world, QNET’s sales have jumped 70% in the last five years and the company is targeting US$1 billion in sales and a top 10 ranking in the world by 2018. In the Middle East, QNET is in the process of expanding its warehousing and logistics capacity and capability, to serve an ever-growing customer base across the MENA region which is on schedule for completion by the first quarter of 2014. “Product sales have continued to show strong growth during 2013, ratifying our decision to expand our warehouse (to 500 shipments per day),” said Mayer . “In the second quarter alone sales grew by 23 per cent compared to the first, while in third quarter the figure increased by another 21 per cent. These sales contributed to the company’s 8 per cent increase in global sales compared to 2012 (as at 30 June). QNET product sales transactions are averaging over 10,000 per month in the Middle East and North Africa as a whole, and peaked at 11,200 per month during the second quarter. “The region currently contributes to approximately 48 per cent of our global sales, demonstrating the popularity of our products and the method of direct marketing in this region,” adds Mayer. With the expansion of this facility by (March 2014), QNET aims to serve more than 20 countries in the Middle East and North Africa region and ship more than 120,000 products annually, making it the company’s second largest logistics facility after Malaysia, in terms of space and variety of products

At the OBTAINER Global Direct Selling Forum (OGDSF) held for the first time in the Middle East (Ras Al Khaimah, November 9th & 10th) QNET received the OBTAINER GLOBAL DIRECT SELLING AWARD 2013 for CSR in recognition of the wide ranging activities of the organization’s social responsibility arm - RYTHM Foundation.

RYTHM, which is an acronym Raise Yourself To Help Mankind, is dedicated to educating, inspiring and working with others to create a brighter future for those in need.

The MENA region is one of the fastest growing regions within the Direct Selling industry, which generated global sales of $167 billion in 2012. As a result the OGDSF attracted some 200 delegates from the Arab world and Indian Sub-Continent for the two-day event, which combined critical industry insight QNET has contributed tremendously to worthy causes in the MENA region. In UAE, QNET recently signed a friendship agreement with Rashid Pediatric Therapy Centre, whereby support for the center will be provided in a variety of different ways over the coming years from financial support to cross cultural exchanges. In Egypt, over the years QNET has made significant donations to the 57357 Cancer Hospital, supported Bedaya NGO in organizing a campaign to distribute Ramadan food bags to poor families in Qalubia, Bani Sueif and Cairo.
