Q2. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TASKS?
INTRODUCTION
I feel as though all three of my media products, my film, film poster and magazine article relate and
correctly represent my documentary. This is important as in a professional company all tasks
would be performed by the same production company, the aim is to publicise and promote the
film and the best way to do that is to have all products relating to encourage the audience to
watch it.
DOCUMENTARY
For my documentary I researched into other documentaries with a similar topic and analysed how they had been presented, I based my interviews and questions around what I had watched and this led me to filming my shots focused and mostly mid-shots for my interviews as that is what I most commonly saw used in documentaries. The length of each interview varies depending on the relevance of the information being given, however I have tried to make sure they
are not too long so that my audience do not lose interest.
DOCUMENTARY
My interviews were structured with Teachers and Students from school with views on the topic matter.
As I filmed mainly at school the clothing of individuals is mainly smart/casual which is
commonly found in documentaries that involve the public. The interviews contain mainly natural facial expressions and gestures used when explaining a
view. In the introduction and conclusion I have used relevant iconography, this being my presenter standing in front of a computer suite which will
imply the individuals behind are ‘illegally downloading’.
DOCUMENTARY
Another factor is I have given both sides of the argument throughout my documentary therefore it
is not bias, which is in the conventions of documentary. I mainly interviews individuals that had a deep knowledge on the topic and I feel this
has help deepen the knowledge of my documentary which is the whole point of the genre
FILM POSTER
My film poster most definitely has the mise-en-scene relevant to the documentary as it straight away identifies to the audience an individual illegally downloading. Using an
over the shoulder shot in the poster to show what the individual is doing on the computer. However you could
argue I am stereotyping the main culprits of illegal downloading by having a ‘young person’ in the shot, but this can also be supported by the majority of views for the use of illegal downloading by young people in my film. The title promotes the film and by having my slogan as a question I
have asked throughout my interviews should make the audience eager to know the responses I have found.
MAGAZINE REVIEW
My review is an accurate reviews which is stereotypically found in articles I know this by
looking at previous A2 work and reading film articles from the internet and magazines. The purpose of an article is to give the audience an insight on what to
expect from the film they are possibly thinking about going to see the film and also promoting it
making them want to see it.
