Q.3: What Have You Learned From Your Audience Feedback?

Introduction

• Having audience feedback was essential in both pre-production and post production stage. For example, audience feedback for pre-production helped us to discover what were our target audience’s preferences and dislikes. Therefore we could make changes to our planning if we didn’t get positive feedback.

• It was also important for post production as it informed us if we’ve pleased our target audience, once again we could make changes if we got negative feedback.

Pre-ProductionDuring our pre-production, we handed out questionnaires to collect more information about our target audience. The results were collated into pie charts. These findings enabled us to understand our audiences preferences and tastes therefore we ensured that our final products meet their requirements.

Audience Feedback For First draft of Film Poster. Here is the poster feedback I collected from my media teacher and classmates. It helped us improve the current features on the poster for the final product, we were unaware of previous mistakes/possible improvements only until we were informed of them by the audience. The feedback enabled us to notice that the layout of the poster is very important as well the colours have an impact on attracting our target audience. E.g. Colourful, Bright colours attract a younger segment of the audience whereas bold, dark colours may attract older adults.

No specific theme colour.

Final Film Poster – Improved.

As you can see that we’ve taken a lot of the feedback into consideration and made a great amount of improvements according to what’s been stated to us.

• We used our theme colour- Blue and pink. This is so our promotional package can link to each other.

• We added colours to the text boxes to appeal to our target audience. (females aged 15 – 19 years old.

• We decreased the amount of space taken by the bottom image.

• We decided to use only one festival logo.

• The film title; ‘Once In Our Lives’ has been enlarged to stand out more.

• A gritty, sand texture effect placed on all the images within the poster in order to create a sense of uniqueness.

• During our audience feedback , many individuals mentioned that we used “too many different fonts”. We agreed with this because it could make the poster look cluttered For the final poster we have used a maximum of 3 fonts

Audience Research for First Draft of magazine.

“The main title cannot be seenvery well because of the dark background colour”

This was our first draft of the Film Magazine, we received a mix of positive and negative feedback from media and non-media students aged 15-19 years old. The main things we learnt from the feedback is how we should think about the colours we use within the magazine. We should have also thought of the structure because it didn’t look like a conventional magazine cover.

“I think that the masthead and titleShould be filled in”

“I really like the font of the masthead”

“This banner shouldn’t be empty”

“Really good positioning of characters”

“The exposure of the picture needs toBe changed”

“Too many different colours”

“There is no theme colour”

“The barcode has not been included”

“The banner takes up too much space”

“This is very eye-catching”

Final Film Magazine cover – Improved.

As you can see that we’ve taken a lot of the feedback into consideration and made a great amount of improvements according to what’s been stated to us.

• We Kept the masthead font but used a lighter and more vibrant colour to emphasise the magazine company name.

• Someone pointed out that we didn’t include a barcode – This was due to time restrictions.

• We must’ve managed our time more well in order to complete our set task. (The same goes to the first draft of the poster)

• After we were given the audience feedback we realised that we didn’t have a particular colour theme for our media products. Therefore we used a blue coloured background for the magazine to portray our theme (Blue and Pink)

• The banner at the bottom was made smaller and contained a set of other films that feature within the magazine.

• We also decided that having the two characters instead of 3 would make more sense.

• The main title was made much more clearer in order to stand out and grab the audiences attention .

Rough Cut Trailer Feedback

Trailer Rough Cut:

Our rough cut was incomplete in some parts such as the production and distribution company logos were not included.

During the feedback we were told that this scene was quite confusing and many people said they were unsure on what was happening therefore we improved it by intensifying the brightness and used the actors voices to inform the audience on what was going on.

Also, the group conversation scene was “too long” therefore it was cut down in order to make our product look like an actual trailer.

“The film title was not included” – We should have managed our time better in order to complete the rough cut before the first deadline.

“Lack of music used, this fails to engage the audience.” For our final product we used a mixture of touching and upbeat diegetic sounds in order to promote our product more successfully.

“The credits are missing”We were already aware that we needed to include credits within our trailer. Once again we didn’t have enough time to create them before the rough cut deadline.

Some people said that the story was quite confusing. Therefore we incorporated more scenes within the final product in order to make the plot more understandable.

Page 9: Q. 3 - What have you learned from your audience feedback

• In general all the audience feedback about all the media products were a mix of positive and negative opinions. Obtaining audience feedback was advantageous as it helped us to develop all our products into effective media products and gave us greater knowledge on how to accomplish this.

• In addition, it provided us with some areas of improvement in order to promote products more successfully.
