Last Saturday saw another super successful year for The Pyramid Hill Fiesta. Upwards of
720 people attended the event, and were treated to all the fabulous sights, smells, sounds
and tastes of our multi-cultural community.
There were plenty of fun activities: climbing to dizzying dare devilish heights on the rock
wall race, pretending to be Police Officer Joy while sitting in her Cop Car, bouncing like
a buccaneer over the rolling waves in the Pirate Jumping Castle, making slime and
bubbles or getting you skin covered in amazing art at the face painting station.
Patrons were entertained by a variety of live musicians, dance performances by the
schools. Also, traditional Filipino dances Sayaw Sa Bangko, where dancers skilfully
dance on a bench and Tinikling, a dance with bamboo poles for the quick footed.
There was plenty of Fiesta feasting with Filipino and Australian delicacies served side by
side to tempt the taste buds. There was something tasty for everyone to sink there teeth
into. It is always great to see everyone, young and old, coming together to celebrate and
have a fun time. It’s what small country towns are all about.

I watched a very thought provoking program on T.V last night. The thought it provoked was,” Why am I watching this program?”
Today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday.
Beside my new house I have a big tree with only one huge leaf. I watered it every day for six months, before I realized it was a flagpole.
SENIORS President’s Report
Well another month has rolled around and Easter is not too far away. Firstly it is a very sad occasion as on the 2nd of March another one of our members, Johannes Veldhoven passed away aged well into his 90’s. He was a long time member and will be sadly missed. A few dates to keep in mind, we have Tillow Fashions on 25th March so all come along, bring a friend, spend lots of money as we get 10% thanks to “Tillows”. On March 29th we have a BBQ luncheon so come along and have a snag or rissole. Card Bingo is on March 22nd and April 5th so come along and have a good time. Four of our Seniors went to Barham on March 18th to Monday Madness when two won prizes and two missed out. Better luck next time. Another trip to Monday Madness is in the pipeline and hoping more can make it next time. Also 4 members went on the Mystery Trip with 5-8 Club Loddon Shire and saw Daylesford Through Linda’s Eyes. I have some news about our Newsletter. It is now being printed by Neighborhood House in The Pyramid Hill Press once a month and will have greater circulation and hopefully some new members. Nothing will change all contents will be done by our members. Those of you who don’t get the Pyramid Press will get a copy mailed to you just like you got our newsletter. I am excited about this concept and look forward to your input as it is still all about us. I have tried to cover all that is happening. Take Care

This year National Playgroup week is being celebrated between the 24th and the 30th March.
Playgroup is a great way for children to learn about the world, make friends and develop social skills. Playgroup also gives mums, dads, grandparents and caregivers a chance to share ideas and experiences.
Between the ages of 0 to 6 years children go through a stage of rapid brain and skill development. For the best development, young children need a stimulating environment to play and learn. Playgroups offer babies, toddlers and young children a wide variety of early learning experiences in a safe and supported environment.
At playgroup children can:
• develop physically, socially, emotionally and intellectually
• gain self confidence
• develop cooperation skills
• extend their experience of literacy in a social environment.
• make new friends
• have new experiences
• develop communication skills
Within the Pyramid Hill Community there is great support for playgroup and early learning opportunities. The Pyramid Hill Playgroup is run from the Pyramid Hill Preschool on Friday from 10.00am to 12.00pm. During school terms families can attend activities including the ‘Early Learners Program’ at Pyramid Hill College and ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ program at St Patrick’s Primary School instead of playgroup on selected dates. Next dates are as follows:
‘Kids in the Kitchen’ Friday 29th

MAYORAL COLUMN
Funding Announcement Welcomed It was fantastic to receive the news that the Our Region, Our Rivers project joint infrastructure project was successful in gaining funding from the Federal Regional Growth Fund. Council very much welcomes this funding announcement from the Deputy Prime Minister & Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack.
On behalf of Council, I’d also like to recognise and thank Swan Hill Rural City Council, which coordinated the significant amount of work that went into the joint funding application. This application involved the Swan Hill, Gannawarra, Buloke and Loddon councils from Victoria and Balranald, Murray River and Edward River councils in NSW.
Loddon’s share of the funding is more than $760,000, which will help deliver over $1.5 million worth of works. This funding will enable Council to undertake significant redevelopment of three of its caravan parks in Pyramid Hill, Boort and Wedderburn, and implement Stage 2 of the Bridgewater Foreshore project. It will see new caravan park facilities such as amenities blocks, entrance upgrades, improvements to some cabins and powerheads, water and sullage points. These long-awaited improvements are expected to increase tourism patronage and use of short-term accommodation in Pyramid Hill, Boort and Wedderburn, increasing overnight stays in our towns and bringing wider economic benefits to those communities and the broader region.
The Bridgewater Foreshore Project will deliver new and upgraded infrastructure that is accessible, easily maintained and safe, including seating areas and shelters, community gathering spaces, pathways, interpretive/cultural signage and improved access points to the foreshore. The Bridgewater Foreshore precinct is a popular destination for the local community and visitors alike and these improvements will make this area even better to visit and spend more time enjoying.
CFA Rural Decline Project The Wedderburn community (as well as Edenhope) has been nominated to participate in a CFA project which is trialling a new way of engaging communities during its planning process. This is one of a range of projects by the CFA’s Rural Decline, Retraction and Ageing Steering Committee, which aims to support communities with declining populations across the North West and West regions. The aim is to better understand community needs by looking at data and talking with local volunteers and service providers about local experiences, knowledge and innovative ideas. The steering committee wants the people who are using CFA services to be part of developing local action plans to address priority needs.
During the next few months, the Wedderburn community project will include interviews with service providers, surveys in the street with local community members and a local workshop. Feedback from this community research will then help inform an action plan for the future addressing priority areas of need. If you are approached to participate in a survey or invited to the workshop please take the time to take part, as your feedback will be valuable to the CFA in helping address the needs of our community.
Millers Ag now offers a delivery service to farms every Wednesday. We are very fortunate to have Vaughn Herrick as our driver. For more information, please contact us on 5455 7306.
