Salman’s look in the film has been carefully designed to match the journey of the wrestler. In the initial portions of the film, he appears rugged and muscular, while the later reels witness a leaner Salman.

RELEASING THIS MONTHA SnEAK-PEAK InTO THE BIG RELEASES OF THE MOnTH!

Sultan is a fictional drama based on the life of a Haryana wrestler and mixed martial arts specialist Sultan Ali Khan.

Salman plays the title character - a wrestler, who for personal reasons gives up wresting and returns to it after a long gap. By this time, age and an unfit body have caught up with him. That’s when an MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) coach (Randeep Hooda) steps in to train him and help him redeem himself. Sultan goes on to win top titles in the sport.

Anushka Sharma also plays a wrestler in the film, as also Salman Khan’s love interest. She trained with three different trainers to build different skill sets. Her first trainer taught her wrestling, the second

MOVIE OF THE MONTH

Directors: Justin LinStar Cast: John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe SaldanaGenre: Action, Adventure, Sci-FiRating: (U/A)Release Date:22 JulyStudio: Paramount Pictures

The year 2016 marks the 50th Anniversary of the iconic Star Trek franchise. And Paramount Pictures is celebrating it in the best way possible — by releasing the highly-anticipated sequel Star Trek: Beyond.

Produced by J. J. Abrams and directed by Fast & Furious fame Justin Lin, Beyond, while staying loyal to its fanbase will also open up to a wider audience through some exciting fast-paced action set pieces.

With a couple of trailers already out, the images of Jaylah, Krall and the swarm ships almost guarantee Beyond to be one of the most visually creative Star Trek films yet. Now we just need to figure out a way to warp to July 22. . .

Live long and prosper!

THE PLOT: After stopping off at Starbase Earhart, a remote outpost on the fringes of Federation space, the USS Enterprise, halfway into their five-year mission, is destroyed by a powerful, unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With the crew stranded on an unknown planet and with no apparent means of rescue, they find themselves in

conflict with a new ruthless enemy who has a well-earned hatred of the Federation and what it stands for.

The plot line of Beyond ushers in a welcome change-of-pace after two largely Earth bound stories. The setup also allows director Justin Lin to place the characters in situations we haven’t seen them in yet. Scattered across the planet, they end up working in pairs with “unusual compatriots, ” trying and get back together which will most likely lead to fascinating dynamics and interactions.

While the survival on an alien planet would be tough in itself, being out in space for so long is bound to take a mental toll on the characters as well, bringing out a sea of emotions on display, perhaps even from Spock.

THE CASTChris Pine as Captain James Tiberius Kirk: Chris Pine will play James Tiberius Kirk for the third time in Star Trek Beyond. With the movie doubling down on the action, Kirk will be getting a fair share of the heroics while also showcasing more of his wiser self, now that he has a couple of years of command experience.

Zachary Quinto as Commander Spock: Zachary Quinto is back as Commander Spock, the green blooded Vulcan who sports a bouffant bowl cut. Having worked alongside Kirk for a couple of years, Spock is expected to be a more logical, less hot-headed take on the character, closer to Leonard Nimoy’s defining original performance. That

being said, the film will be featuring very less of the Kirk/Spock dynamic that was the lynchpin in the earlier films.

Karl Urban as Lieutenant Commander Leonard McCoy: If there’s one thing that practically everyone agrees on, it’s that Urban absolutely nails the role of Bones. So, there is no surprise as he reprises his role of Leonard “Bones” McCoy. Interestingly, Star Trek: Beyond will see the irascible doctor share a lot of screen time with the diametrically opposite Spock trying to escape the mysterious world they are trapped in.

Idris Elba as Krall: Best known for his work on the HBO series The Wire, British actor Idris Elba will play the titular villain Krall. This reptilian alien could potentially be the most menacing threat Captain Kirk and his crew have faced yet, seeing that Krall vehemently opposes the ideals of the Federation and everything it stands for.

Sofia Boutella as Jaylah: Unrecognizable under the heavy makeup, Sofia Boutella would be playing the alien Jaylah

in Star Trek Beyond. Friend or foe? The trailer, where she is spotted several times usually hitting someone, certainly makes it look like she’ll be joining forces with Kirk against a common enemy.

Other characters reprising their roles are Zoe Saldana as Lieutenant nyota Uhura, John Cho as Lieutenant Hikaru Sulu, and Anton Yelchin as Lieutenant Pavel Chekov. Simon Pegg, who has also penned the script for Star Trek: Beyond will be returning as Scotty.

50 new alien species have been introduced in this film in honor of the Star Trek franchise’s 50th anniversary.

Although J.J. Abrams won’t be directing the third film because of his directorial obligations on Star Wars: The Force Awakens, he will stay on as a producer.

Simon Pegg revealed on The Graham norton Show (2007) that he was involved in the writing process for this movie.

It’s the first Star Trek film ever to be shot primarily in Vancouver, British Columbia and not in Hollywood. All existing sets, including those of the USS Enterprise, were rebuilt from scratch in a large studio in Vancouver.

Champions League winning football manager Carlo Ancelotti will be making a surprise big screen debut after landing a cameo role in the movie.

Idris Elba is the third actor from the Thor film series to appear in the rebooted Star Trek series after Chris Hemsworth and Joseph Gatt.

REACH OUT FOR THAT BOX OF TISSUES1939: GONE WITH THE WIND“I will think of it tomorrow...I can stand it then...After all tomorrow is another day.” These words which make up the final lines of the movie, stay with you well after the movie has ended. Set in the 1860s, during the American Civil War, “Gone With the Wind” follows the life of its main heroine throughout the years as she matures from being a young girl to a lady. Filled with passion, drama, romance, tragedy and trauma, this movie will certainly have you reach out for that box of tissues.

1993: SCHINDLER’S LISTYet another film about the Holocaust, what makes this one special is its central character, Oskar Schindler. Originally, a successful businessman and a profiteer, he ultimately spends his earnings in bribing the Nazi officials to let him keep his “Jewish” workers. What strikes a chord with most viewers is the letter offered to Schindler by his workers. The letter suggests that they don’t view him as a criminal and also includes a ring inscribed with the words: “ He who saves the life of one man, saves the world entire.”

1997: LIFE IS BEAUTIFULArguably one of the best movies of the Holocaust, “Life is Beautiful” makes one believe that human will-power and grit can overcome anything. Set in 1930s, Italy, the movie depicts one man’s endeavours to keep his son’s spirits up even in the midst of the war. The concentration camps are imagined as a part of a game where the prize for winning is a tank. Even in the most dire of situations the movie manages to keep our hopes alive and makes us believe that life truly is beautiful!

1998: SAVING PRIVATE RYANThe decision to include Steven Spielberg’s epic World War II saga ‘Saving Private Ryan’ in the list came as easy as the tears it inspired. The movie tells the tale of a group of soldiers who have been tasked to go on a search mission through Nazi-occupied France to find a single soldier and bring him home. Praised as being one of the most realistic war films ever made, it is nearly impossible to pinpoint a single, great moment of sorrow. One such poignant moment arrives in the end, when an elderly Private Ryan visits the normandy grave of the leader of his rag-tag group of saviors, tearfully asking his wife if the life he has led is worthy of the sacrifice those men made for him to come home all those years ago.

2008: THE BOY IN STRIPED PAJAMASMark Herman’s “The Boy in Striped Pajamas” is a story perceived through the eyes of an eight year old boy, largely shielded from the harsh realities of World War II. The sheer innocence of an eight year old Bruno is depicted as he strikes a friendship with the boy sitting across the barbed wire fence. Ignorant about the realities of concentration camps and the holocaust, the two boys behave as though all’s well in their world. At the end of the movie, slapped hard on the face by reality, the two boys continue holding hands portraying their childish faith and belief that life will be better.

2009: MY SISTER’S KEEPERLoosely based on Jodi Piccoult’s novel, the movie narrates a family’s journey through cancer and loss. Engineered as the perfect donor, Anna Fitzgerald is brought into this world, only to save her sister’s life. All through her life Anna acquiesced. Things turn awry when she serves up a legal notice to her parents seeking medical emancipation. The film painfully depicts a family falling through the cracks and then jumping back up. Somewhere down the line the film leaves one with the message that loss is inevitable and that it is imperative to accept it and move on.

she once was. It is a struggle to prove to herself and the world that she is “still Alice.”

2014: STILL ALICERichard Glatzer and Walsh Westmoreland’s “Still Alice” is heart-warming portrayal of one woman’s struggle against Alzheimer’s. All through her life Alice Howland was defined as an intellectual, now she has to come to terms with her failing memory, her loss of self. However her’s is a struggle as opposed to a suffering. A struggle to connect with who

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

SYLVESTER STALLONEOne of the most popular action stars in cinematic history, Sylvester Stallone or “Sly” is best known for portraying two heroic characters on the big screen—boxer Rocky Balboa and Vietnam War veteran John Rambo. Here are 5 fun facts about Stallone, who turns 70 on July 6.1. Sylvester Stallone was born in the charity ward of a

hospital in the new York ghetto of Hell’s Kitchen. At his birth, the doctor’s forceps accidentally severed a nerve in his cheek, leaving him with his trademark droopy mouth.

2. He always wanted to be a hero, and often wore a superhero costume under his school uniform. He once attempted to fly out of his bedroom window, and broke his collarbone.

3. Desperate for money before Rocky happened, he sold his beloved dog, a bull mastiff called Butkus, for $50. Later, he paid $3000 to buy Butkus back, and gave the buyer and the dog roles in Rocky!

4. In his prime years, Stallone could bench press 180 kg and squat 226.8 kg. He once competed with a former Olympic weightlifter, and severely tore his pectoral muscle—it needed over 160 stitches. This is why one half of his chest has many more veins than the other.

5. He’s an artist: Stallone’s been doing oil paintings for more than 50 years and held his first exhibition in Switzerland in 2011.

Caterina Murino FEVER GIRL

She is the first ever Bond girl to star in a Bollywood movie. Meet Caterina Murino, all set to hit the highs with Fever, starring Rajeev Khandelwal and Gauhar Khan.

In this upcoming thriller, directed by Rajeev Jhaveri, an assassin takes on the identity of a writer to escape the law. He has two mysterious and sensuous women around him, and he does not know which one to trust. Murino plays one of those women.

The trailer of Fever has already set the screen alight. The movie promises to deliver big on both suspense and seduction.

About her Bollywood debut, Caterina Murino has said she always dreamt of acting in Hindi cinema. She picked this role for its substance--it is in no sense a conventional, song-and-dance type of character, and that is what drew her to the film. Of course, Rajeev khandelwal is known to pick his films with care, and director Rajeev Jhaveri made the horror hit Kuchh To Hai.

Before you watch the film, here are some interesting facts about its leading lady:

• Caterina Murino was born in Sardinia on September 15, 1977. She has a large Italian family and they are very bonded.

• In 1996, Murino scored fourth place in the Miss Italy contest.

• She has modelled for premier ads including Mastercard, Swatch, nescafe and Mercedes Benz.

• Murino’s acting credits include numerous stage plays and a string of films in US, Canada, Argentina, Europe and China.

• As Solange Dimitrios in Casino Royale, Murino seduced James Bond and left a million sighs in her wake.

• Murino speaks three languages: English, French and Italian. She is a good athlete, horserider and flamenco dancer.

• Her favourite Bollywood movie is Jodhaa Akbar, which she describes as “beautiful and amazing.”

THE LIFE OF A LEGEND:

Page 24: pvr movies first - IIS Windows Server

PVR MOVIES FIRST PAGE 24

Francis Ford Coppola ARCHITECTS OF CINEMA

Francis Ford Coppola is one of the greatest film directors to ever walk the earth. A godfather himself of American films, Coppola is a director, producer, screenwriter, and the force behind legendary films such as The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and that cult classic, The Conversation. He has won more awards than he can hold.

Early Life: Stricken with polio as a child, Francis Ford Coppola was bedridden for a whole year. During this time, he played with puppets, watched television, and created an inner fantasy world. As soon as he could walk again, he began to make movies with an eight-millimeter camera and a tape recorder.

Coppola graduated with a drama degree from Hofstra University and went on to receive an MFA in Film Production from UCLA in 1967.

Impatient to make films, he signed up for directing an adult movie, which caught the attention of low-budget director Roger Corman.

Seeing his strong work ethic, Corman allowed him to direct Dementia 13 (1963), a gory horror movie Coppola had written in three days and shot for $40,000.

His Films: Coppola earned an Academy Award for screenwriting 1970’s Patton. Two years later, he made history with The Godfather. Under his

Page 25: pvr movies first - IIS Windows Server

powerful direction, Marlon Brando as the Corleone family’s patriarch and Al Pacino as his son and reluctant successor set the screen afire.

The film won for Best Picture at the Oscars, and Coppola took the Best Screenplay award. The sequel, The Godfather Part II (1974) received rapturous reviews, too.

In 1979, Coppola produced the riveting Vietnam War drama Apocalypse now. Starring Martin Sheen, the film was an imaginative retelling of Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness. In the1980s and 1990s, he made films as diverse as The Outsiders (1983), The Cotton Club (1984) and Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1992). He also created the final chapter to his mafia trilogy, The Godfather Part III (1990).

Coppola won five Oscars in four years. He is among an elite group of seven directors who have won Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay (Original/Adapted) for the same film. In 1975 he won all three for The Godfather: Part II.

A Man of Passion: Coppola once sold his car to pay for a 16-millimeter camera.

Coppola’s Cinema: The director is fascinated by families – their members, structures, dynamics, rules and rituals. He does not shy away from grim material. And he is fond of cross-cutting scenes to show irony: remember the christening and the murders toward the end of Godfather?

Up Next: At 77, Coppola is bubbling with new ideas. He plans an ambitious live cinema project, where audiences will be treated to “live” movie streaming using Internet-wired digital projectors. The story will span three generations of an Italian-American family. now why does that sound familiar?

“To put it bluntly: if you don’t like Back To The Future, it’s difficult to believe that you like films at all,” wrote Adam Smith of Empire at the end of his 5-star verdict.

With a near perfect script, innovative special effects, zesty soundtrack and brilliant acting, Back To The Future came as a breath of fresh air in the style-challenged 80’s and went on to become the highest grossing movie of 1985. Owing to its massive critical and commercial success, the film became one of the most successful franchises in Universal Studio’s history, including two theatrical sequels, an animated television series, a theme park ride, toys, comic books, video games and apparel.

A creative collaboration of Academy-Award winning

filmmakers Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis, the film notched up four Oscar nominations, taking home the award for Best Sound Effects

The Plot: A young man is accidentally sent thirty years into the past in a time-traveling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown, and must make sure his high-school-age parents unite in order to save his own existence.

Wow Factor: In 2010, during a cast reunion, Michael J. Fox said that strangers still call him “McFly!” constantly. Fox said that the most remarkable instance was when he was in a remote jungle in Bhutan. A group of Buddhist monks passed him and one of them looked at Fox and said, “Marty McFly!”
