DATES FOR APRIL

David Graham Headteacher

As we break for two weeks it enables me to pause to consider the amazing things that have happened this term. I am in the fortunate position to hear about all the tremendous student and staff success stories, whether they be in the classroom, on the stage or on the sports fields. But the events don’t stop at the school gates, last weekend staff and students raised money for the Luton Foodbank Colour Run and over the holidays Mr Petherbridge will be running the Rome Marathon to raise money for Keech Hospice Care. I continue to be a very proud Putteridge High Headteacher.

For some, work will continue over the next two weeks, there are Year 11 revision sessions on each day and I urge students to make the most of these free quality sessions and would like to thank staff for giving up their own time and planning bespoke lessons for students who are now so close to their final examinations. It is a tough time for the Year 11 students, staff are always on hand to talk through concerns that may arise due to the stresses brought upon by this very difficult period of their school life.

I am hoping we might be through the worst of the cold weather. Students have been amazing in terms of dealing with the challenges of travel as well as the varied temperatures in the building, thank you to both staff and students for making the difficulties less challenging through a positive outlook.

After the break we will be joined by Jeremy Heath, Assistant Headteacher for Inclusion (incl. SENCO), Mahnaz Tompkins, Pastoral Leader and Sharlina Islam, Geography SLE. We are excited to have these additional appointments and know they will be warmly welcomed by students, staff and parents.

Next term we will be migrating our mail to Google mail and making use of the Google suite of tools in school, I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause, we are endeavouring to ensure the transfer is fairly seamless, but please do bear with us and get in touch if there are concerns you would like to share. Thank you for your continued support.

EMERGENCY SCHOOL CLOSURE

In exceptional circumstances it may be necessary to close the school during normal hours. In these instances, i.e. due to severe weather conditions, we shall inform parents via our web-site and school Facebook page. In addition, we will endeavour to contact you by email/ text.

FOR INFORMATION

ATTENDANCE

It is through good attendance that students maximise their full potential, enhancing their life chances for the future. Missing school means missing out on learning and this can have an impact on a child’s development and attainment. There is a strong statistical link between attendance and attainment. The law states that children of statutory school age, who are on roll at a school or

academy, must attend regularly and punctually. Regular attendance is important because it is the best way of ensuring children make the most of the educational opportunities available to them. If your child is unwell or unable to attend school, please call the school on 01582 415791 and choose Option 1 by 8.30am on each day of absence.

AFTER SCHOOL PICK-UP

At the end of the school day we are still experiencing high levels of congestion outside the front of the school. Please endeavour to park a reasonable distance away from the school to avoid unnecessary traffic at all times. In addition, please remind students that they are not to walk across either the staff or recreation car park at any time.

YELLOW HOUSE TOP BANANAS

We are always keen and proud to recognise what our students achieve. Each week, our pastoral leader, Mr Jones, scans through a myriad of data and information to seek out who his “Top Banana” will be, always looking to recognise those who contribute to school life in some way. Since the beginning of the school year, 28 students have received this well-deserved accolade who deserve to be rewarded for their efforts.

Jason Potts, Zahra Alizei, Emma Sheeran, Danielle Pauling, Ben

LET’S CELEBRATE

We had a fantastic evening at UKCCA watching bands playing from other schools. There were brilliant performances from Cardinal Newman, Ashcroft, Stopsley, Luton Sixth Form, and the LMS Saturday Morning Rock School, to name a few. The event was the first of its kind for the Luton Music Service and was a great success – a great vibe, and a great opportunity for our students to experience!

Putteridge were brilliantly represented by our band, The February Seconds. They performed adapted versions of Fluorescent Adolescent, Mr Brightside, Valerie and All You Need is Love, and they loved the crowd’s reaction! Thanks to Ben Jarvis, our guitar teacher, for leading the band. Our performers were: Bethan Fearn: Vocals Envile Starkeviciute: Vocals Courtney Goulbourne: Vocals Jake Farish: Bass Max Williams: Drums

Amazing, really well organised, enjoyed

myself and I’m really grateful for the

opportunity, thanks! Max Williams, Year 10

YEAR 7 GEOGRAPHY FIELD VISIT TO CUFFLEY CAMP — 22ND MARCH 2018

The trip to Cuffley Camp was adventurous and fun. It was great to be outdoors all day and we had an energetic day learning new skills. We spent time finding out about the river, measuring the depth of the water and working out how fast it was flowing. The river was in the woodland and we were in the woods and wading in the river all day; it was both fun and tiring to be outside. It was good to have the opportunity to work with different people to those that we usually work with at school and to make new friends. It was a historic moment for Cuffley Camp as we were the last school to go to the Centre and it has now shut down. To mark the occasion we were all given pens, pencils and notebooks at the end of the day. Overall the visit was both educational and fun and we really enjoyed it.
