All Things PassLet all your thoughts be happy dear,
To chase away all thoughts of fear.
Think of lovely things you’ve seen
Like rolling slopes of velvet green.
Fluffy clouds of azure blue,
Sparkling drops of crystal dew
Robin redbreasts on the wing
Telling us again it’s spring,
Golden beds of daffodils,
Violets blooming on a hill...
Don’t “cloud” your mind with anxious fear,
Just fill your heart with “sunny cheer,”
And waiting days will soon be over
And you’ll again be “back in clover”
For “all things pass” ...and this will too,
And with God’s help you’ll come “smiling through.”

PUREWA CEMETERY
In 1889, the Anglican Church established Purewa Cemetery by setting aside approximately 20 hectares of land. The cemetery remains one of the Anglican Church’s most important assets.
The cemetery is now administered by the Purewa Cemetery Trust Board.
Purewa is a testament to our city’s past. Within Purewa’s tree-filled expanses, visitors will see the ranks of plaques and headstones that are monuments to many notable Auckland personalities.
Purewa is the final resting place of over 50,000 men, women and children, including many of Auckland’s renowned business and political leaders, clergy and VC holders.
We maintain the cemetery to the highest standard and our continuous upgrading works ensure that Purewa remains the premier cemetery in Auckland.
Purewa is a mere 15 minute drive from Auckland’s central business district.

At Purewa, you can visit a loved one’s final resting place in graceful, park-like surroundings. Our beautiful gardens and extensive lawns create an air of serenity. We believe there is no better setting for a dignified funeral service than our landscaped gardens and well-kept grounds. These aesthetic environs provide a fitting memorial to a loved one.

THE ALL SAinTS And ALL SoULS CHAPELS
The All Saints Chapel has a seating capacity for 208 people. By contrast, the All Souls Chapel has a seating capacity for 56 people.
For the larger funerals, there are covered areas outside both chapels that will allow standing room for 300 people and 50 people respectively. Large glass doors and windows at the rear of the chapels allow mourners to view the service from outside.
The All Saints and All Souls Chapels are available for full and committal services.
Both chapels allow bereaved families to have caskets open for viewing throughout the service.
Our chapel attendants are always very willing to work with bereaved families,

funeral directors, clergy and celebrants to ensure special requests are accommodated.
We have electric organs in both chapels and have an extensive range of music which can be played at special times during a service on our first-class sound system. A permanent record of the service can also be downloaded on to your computer.
Power point audio/visual equipment is provided in each chapel.
In addition, eFuneral livestreaming to anywhere in the world is available from both chapels free of charge. You can watch a funeral live via iPhone, iPad, laptop or computer.
PUREWA CREMAToRiUM
The crematorium and All Saints Chapel were first established in 1957. Purewa was the second facility to provide cremation services in Auckland.
By 1983, it had became apparent that one chapel and one cremator could not cope with demand. In that year, we constructed the All Souls Chapel and installed a second cremator.
During 2000, we increased the capacity of both the All Saints Chapel and the All Souls Chapel.
Through technology, we now have computerised cremators that are environmentally sensitive and comply with all air discharge regulations. Our state of the art equipment will allow us to operate well into the 21st century.
After the funeral of your choice your loved one’s ashes will be held by the funeral director until you are ready for the next step. When you feel the time is right, you can select a final resting place and memorial for your loved one’s ashes within Purewa’s park-like surroundings.
BooK of MEMoRiES
You may commemorate the passing of a loved one by entering their name into the Book of Memories. The Book is on permanent display. Each page is opened to match the corresponding day of the year. Entries are made on a per line basis. There are no restrictions on how many lines you may purchase.
CoLUMBARiUM/ niCHE WALLS
Our Columbarium/Niche Walls are a feature of this tranquil area. Each niche accommodates up to two urns of ashes. Niches are sealed with an all-polished, granite plaque which is sold as part of the niche. Once you have decided on the inscription to mark the passing of your loved one, the plaque can then be given to a monumental mason for lettering.
ExTEnSivE RAnGE of ASH URnS
We offer an extensive range of urns which you are welcome to view at our administration office. In our display, you will find ceramic, wood, china, alloy and many other unique styles.
Smaller and more delicate urns are available for families who wish to divide their loved one’s ashes among close family members. Alternatively, you may simply wish to travel with them at your side.
These smaller urns can also remain a keepsake, specifically designed to hold the memories and ashes of your loved one. We offer urns that
“Death does not
surprise a
wise man, he is
always ready
to leave”.
As written by
seventeenth century
French author and
poet -
Jean de la Fontaine
will blend in with household ornaments so that only you know what precious memories are placed within.
Please feel free to visit Purewa at any time. Our friendly administration staff will help you to make your personal selection.
Cash, cheque, eftpos and credit card facilities are available.
LoUnGE of REMEMBRAnCE
Purewa’s Lounge of Remembrance is situated within Purewa’s grounds. This facility offers bereaved families and friends a special place to gather and reflect. Full contract catering services are provided. Our caterers will liaise directly with you to ensure all requirements are met.
The General Manager says “catering services can be a huge relief to many families and Purewa’s Lounge of Remembrance will ensure all worries are put aside. Purewa is proud to be able to offer this service.” Please contact our administration regarding use of this facility.
GRAniTE MEMoRiAL BooK
Memorials in everlasting granite provide fitting tributes of remembrance. The beauty of granite is very suitable to symbolise one’s love. Plaques measure 95mm x 75mm.
To Franklin...
In my eyes there lies no vision
But the sight of your dear face
In my heart there is no feeling
But the warmth of your embrace
In my mind there are no thoughts
But the thoughts of you, my dear
In my soul no other longing
But just to have you near
All my dreams are built around you
And I’ve come to know it’s true
In my life there is no living
That is not a part of you.

WA LK of MEMoRiES
We have developed the Walk of Memories as a new facility for bereaved families to lay their loved one’s ashes to rest. The Walk meanders through serene, park-like surroundings.
Plots allow up to two ash interments each. Memorialisation is by a black granite tablet measuring 450mm x 300mm.
The tablet may be engraved with lettering of your choice, or a cast bronze plaque may be adhered to the tablet.
HEAdSTonE ASH LAWn
Each plot in the headstone ash lawn allows up to two ash interments. We permit small, upright, all-polished headstones in this area. Several shapes on top of the headstones are available, such as camber, wave, checked camber, saddle and gable. Each headstone base fits either one or two flower vases. Please enquire at our administration office for further information.
ASH LAWnS
Plots in our ash lawns allow up to two interments each. Flat bronze plaques may be placed on the adjacent berms. Plaques measure 300mm x 110mm. Flower vases may be put behind the plaque. Plots in these lawns may be used as a memorial only without interring ashes.
ASHES MEMoRiAL WALLS
You may have scattered your loved one’s ashes or placed them elsewhere than at Purewa. By placing a plaque on one of the memorial walls, you can pay your respects to your loved one on an anniversary, birthday, Christmas or other special occasion.
On the memorial walls, plaques measure 200mm x 70mm.
CHiLdREn And STiLLBoRn SAnCTUARY
In 2000, we developed an area specifically designed for the burial of children. There are three separate berms that allow different sized plots. Single depth burials only are allowed in these plots.
CEMETERY PLoTS
We allow single and double depth plots. All plots measure 2.4m x 1.2m.
Memorials comprise a bronze plaque laid flat on a concrete berm. Each bronze plaque measures 455mm x 370mm.
Granite, all-polished headstones are available in two separate locations.
In the raised, tilted, granite memorial area, memorials are set on a concrete berm with a base measuring of 915mm x 460mm, a base height of 100mm and an overall height of 250mm.
In the upright, granite memorial area, memorials are set on a concrete berm with a base measuring of 915mm x 380mm, a base height of 100mm and an overall height of 1m.
Monumental permits are applicable to the granite memorial areas and must be applied for prior to installation. Enquiries can be made directly through our administration office.
We do not allow plots to be reserved for future use.
