Mission Statement - ProcurementTo enable the acquisition of resources in a manner that supports the UC education, research, and public service mission through innovation, support of the invention and transition towards environmentally preferable processes, social responsibility, and the utilization of green technologies that enhance the positive transformation of markets towards full sustainability.



Long Term Vision• Cohesive and integrated electronic procurement system:

In order to reach our goals, UCSB will require an e-commerce system that integrates campus procurement and accounting processes while offering efficient controls. E-commerce provides ease-of-use, detailed data, and a greater ability to monitor, measure, and analyze business flows.

• Environmentally Preferable and Socially Responsible Processes:

We envision campus operations utilizing machines and systems powered by clean and renewable energy, comprised of renewable resources, and manufactured in ways that enable individuals to equitably meet their needs.

• Sustainable Economy: Positive transformation of both the University of California and its supporting industries and markets towards a triple bottom line that is prosperous, cost effective, and responsible.

• Purchasing supports UC research, innovation, and invention of environmentally preferable systems and processes

•Policy Education and OutreachDevelop clear guidelines for environmentally preferable procurement across a broad range of commodities and outreach sustainability practices to campus.

•Increase Electronic Commerce•Decrease paper (e.g. eliminate all hard copy catalogues)•Incorporate e-signatures on all campus forms•FlexCard – 100% utilization by departments•Create an e-bay for surplus•Increase Take-back programs•Increase use of video-conferencing
