School Routines and Procedures a. School Operating Hours

• For Term 1:

• School starts at 7.50 a.m. for Morning Assembly and first lesson will commence at 8 a.m. and the school day will end at 1 p.m.

• Your child is encouraged to report to the school hall by 7.50 a.m. as the bell will ring at 7.50 a.m.

• Pupils who arrive after 7.50 a.m. will be considered late for school.

• The dismissal time will be at 1 p.m. Please do pick your child up by 1.30 p.m.

• For Term 2 onwards:

• The dismissal time on Monday, Wednesday and Friday will be at 1.30 p.m.

• The dismissal time on Tuesday and Thursday will be 3.00 p.m.

• This is to allow us to conduct modular CCAs – Sports4All and Arts4All Programmes on Tuesday and/or Thursday.

• Opening of school gates as from 7 Jan 2013 till end of Term 1.

• As from 7 Jan onwards, parents are not allowed to be in the school campus for security reasons, and you may have to pick your child from the school gate. Please alert your child which gate he / she has to go to during dismissal time to meet you or an accompanying family member, guardian or domestic helper.

• Coralinus Gate (side gate next to the Multi-Storey Car Park) � 7.15 a.m. to 8.00 a.m. � 1.00 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. � 1.30 p.m. to 2.00 p.m. (from Term 2 onwards,

• The main school gate will be opened to allow vehicles to enter to drop off your children. Please drive slowly and note the road hump near the Guard Post as you enter the school and do use the round-about before you drop or pick up your child. We allow parents to drop and/or pick up your child from the Foyer as this will be a consistent routine for your child even during raining days. This is important so that your child will not be confused.

b. Safety and Security

• We do not allow cars into our campus in the afternoon except for those driven by our teachers and their family members. This is to ensure safety within the premises and for security concerns.

• Please drive safely and slowly along Punggol Place. Our pupils are very precious to us and we will not want any careless driver to cause an accident.

• The Traffic Light near the Bus Stop will be ready in Mar 2013, pending work to be done by LTA and HDB. We seek your understanding to be careful when you and your child cross the road. The security guard will manage the traffic in the morning before the start of the school day till the installation of the new Traffic Light.

• We will monitor the traffic for the time being. For parents who plan to drive and drop your child of in the morning, please avoid making a U-turn at the traffic junction opposite the Fo Guang Shan Temple. An alternative safer but slightly longer road is to take the turn from Punggol Walk and then to Sentul Crescent.

• Parents / Guardians have to obtain a visitor’s pass at the gate for security reasons. We have to tighten our security in line with the government’s security guidelines.

• We need your cooperation and understanding on this. We do not make apologies for being rule-bound as our pupils are very precious to us and we take the security of our pupils very seriously. This also ensures that our parents / guardians are rest assured that their children are in a safe environment.

c. Health and Absence from School

• Please ensure that your child is well before sending him / her to school. As children play and interact with one another in close proximity, it is easy for them to pick up viruses and germs. If your child is unwell, please take him / her to see a doctor and get the doctor to issue a Medical Certificate (MC).

• We also encourage you to ensure that your children eat a good meal before they come to school. Research has shown that there is a strong correlation between performance in academic studies and whether the child has had a meal. We would be grateful if you could also encourage your child to eat healthily as we certainly do not want our pupils to become unfit and suffer from obesity. Also do encourage your child to sleep early and to have at least 9 to 10 hours of sleep.

• Should your child be absent from school, we would like you or our child to contact the Form Teacher or leave a message for the Form Teacher. We will also be contacting you as soon as we can when your child fails to report to school. To facilitate this channel of communication, we would appreciate it if you could provide us with an updated mobile number or contact number. Please do alert us immediately if you decide to change your contact number. In so doing we hope to work very closely with you to ensure that your child comes to school regularly.

Insurance The school will buy an insurance policy for all our pupils. Under this basic plan, our pupils and staff are covered if they sustain any injury during any school activity, in and outside of the school’s premises. Leaving the School before Dismissal Pupils are not allowed to leave the school before dismissal unless an unforeseeable matter has occurred at home or the child is unwell. In such a case, parents/guardians must first obtain permission from the office and produce their identity cards for verification before taking their child home. Unauthorised Persons in the School Premises In the interest of security, the school does not encourage anyone to come into the school premises unnecessarily. All visitors to the school need to report to the General Office. Those who have official appointments with valid purpose(s) will be issued with a visitor’s pass upon producing their identity card. Parents who wish to see the teachers are advised to do so before/after school hours. They need to make an appointment with the respective teacher(s) through their children. An appointment will be scheduled and the date / time will be written in the Parent-Teacher Communication Book or Pupil’s Handbook.

Road Safety Advice for our Pupils Our pupils are reminded to observe road safety at all times. Their safety is very important and we hope parents could emphasize the importance of road safety to your child. The following are some safety guidelines to take note of to be a responsible pedestrian.

1. Always cross the road at designated pedestrian crossings,

overhead bridges, underpasses or zebra crossings. 2. Be attentive. Look out for vehicles. Always be alert for

inattentive drivers even at signalised crossings. 3. Be Seen, Be Safe! Raise your hand to draw the driver’s

attention and establish eye contact. Not all vehicles will stop at a zebra crossing. For your safety, wait till the vehicle has stopped before you start to cross.

4. When you use the Traffic Light Crossing, do not cross when the ‘green man’ is flashing or the “red man” lights up, as you may not be able to complete the crossing.

5. Before you cross the road, look out for traffic in all directions as drivers do not always stop when they should. Never sprint across roads. There is no need to rush. Avoid using gadgets such as handphone and earphones while crossing the road.

6. Do not stand in between parked vehicles, in front of stationary buses or big vehicles as the drivers may not see you.

7. Always use footpaths when possible. 8. Wear bright coloured attire when you travel at night so that

the driver could see you better. 9. Never play nor stand in the bus bay. 10. Always hold on to handrails on the bus to avoid being

thrown off balance during sudden swerves or brakes.

11. Never stick out any part of your body when you’re in a bus or in a car.

12. Never play in a moving vehicle. 13. Always wait for the bus to stop fully before boarding or

alighting. 14. Always be alert for any oncoming cyclists or pedestrians

when alighting from the bus. 15. Young children should always be accompanied by adults. 16. Be considerate. Cross as soon as you can safely. Tips for Parents:

• Be patient when driving your child to school, these are peak traffic hours.

• Always park your vehicle at designated parking areas.

• Be alert and anticipate any crossings by school children.

• Teach your children about road safety rules. Set a good example.

• Help your child to cross the road safely.

School Rules 1. ASSEMBLY / PLEDGE TAKING 1.1 Pupils who are Singapore Citizens must sing the National

Anthem and take the pledge. Pupils will take the pledge with their right fist placed over the heart.

2. ATTENDANCE 2.1 All pupils must be punctual for school and all school

functions. Pupils must report to school by 7.50 am. 2.2 Pupils must not leave the class without the Teacher’s

Permission Tag.

2.3 Pupils are not allowed to go out of the school premises at any time during school hours.

2.4 Pupils who are not feeling well must report to their teachers. Teachers will inform the parent(s) / authorised guardian concerned if the pupil needs to be sent home. Only the pupil’s parent(s)/ authorised guardian is / are allowed to fetch the pupil from the school. At no time is any pupil allowed to go home on his/her own with a verbal permission given by the parent(s) / guardian.

3. ATTIRE 3.1 All pupils are to wear the prescribed school uniform. Any

form of modifications to the uniform is not allowed. 3.2 All pupils must be in full uniform when they are in school

or when attending any activities organised by the school. 3.3 For days where there are PE lessons and game practice,

pupils must be in full PE attire. Pupils can wear their PE attire for the entire school day. Track pants are not part of the PE attire and should not be worn throughout the school day or during PE lessons except during wushu practices.

3.4 All pupils must put on a pair of white socks and black shoes.

3.5 Name tags are compulsory on the following attire: pinafore for the girls, shirts for the boys and PE t-shirts. They are to be sewn above the school crest for the pinafore, PE attire and the boy’s shirt pocket.

3.6 All pupils must keep their nails clean and short. 3.7 Girls with short hair must keep their hair neat. 3.8 Girls with long hair that touches the collar of their blouse

must plait or tie up their hair neatly. Only plain black / blue ribbons or black / blue hair clips are allowed. Fanciful ornaments are not allowed on the hair.

3.9 Boys’ hairstyles should be one that is short, neat and

appropriate. 3.10 Boys are not allowed to keep facial hair and pupils with

facial hairs will be required to be shaven. 3.11 Dying and streaking of hair is not allowed. 3.12 All pupils are not allowed to have punk hairstyle or any

hairstyle that is deemed inappropriate by the school. 3.13 All pupils are not allowed to wear any form of jewellery. 3.14 All pupils are not allowed to wear track shoes unless on

medical grounds or during PE lessons. 3.15 Girls may wear plain gold / silver stud earrings. Multiple

earrings are not allowed. 3.16 Boys are not allowed to pierce their ears or wear ear studs

/ earrings. 3.17 Spectacles (if worn) should be plain and non-tinted. Avoid

loud coloured spectacle frames. Note: School uniforms and name tags are available from the school uniform supplier. 4. GENERAL CONDUCT 4.1 All pupils should uphold the core values of the school. 4.2 All pupils should greet the teachers and visitors when they

see them. 4.3 All pupils should be orderly and self-disciplined at all

times. 4.4 All pupils must be well-mannered, courteous, honest and

respectful at all times. 4.5 All pupils must co-operate with teachers and prefects at all

times. 4.6 All pupils / classes must move about in the school in a

quiet and orderly manner. 4.7 All pupils must not litter or vandalise school property.

5. CLASSROOM CONDUCT 5.1 All pupils must stand up and greet the teacher when he /

she enters or leaves the class. 5.2 All pupils must leave the classroom during recess, except

for those performing recess duties. 5.3 All fans and lights must be switched off when leaving the

classroom. 5.4 All pupils must seek permission from the teacher and

obtain a Teacher’s Permission Tag before leaving the class during lessons.

6. RECESS 6.1 All pupils should queue up in an orderly manner when

purchasing food. 6.2 All food and drinks must be consumed within the school

canteen premises. 6.3 Used crockery should be returned to the respective stall’s

receptacle. 6.4 All pupils must finish their food / drinks before the recess

ends. 6.5 All pupils should help to maintain the cleanliness of the

school canteen. 6.6 All pupils are to assemble at the canteen immediately after

recess before proceeding to their classrooms. 7. ITEMS NOT TO BE BROUGHT TO SCHOOL 7.1 Pupils should not bring electronic games, cards and toys

to the school. 7.2 Pupils should not bring excessive pocket money to school. 7.3 No mobile phones or any electronic devices (e.g. PDA)

are allowed in school.

Making an Apology 1. Look at the person. 2. Use a sincere voice. 3. Say, “ I am sorry for ….”

Or “I want to apologise for …”. 4. Do not make excuses. 5. Explain how you plan to do

better in the future. 6. Always be polite and must be

sincere of what you say.

Make a Request 1. Look at the person. 2. Say in a clear and pleasant

voice. 3. Say exactly what you want to

ask. 4. Remember to start with, “May I

….”. 5. Remember to end with,

“please”. 6. If the answer given is, “Yes”,

remember to say, “Thank you”. 7. If the answer given is, “No”,

remember to accept the rejection politely and say “It is okay. Thank you”.

Report to a Teacher of a Behaviour 1. Look at the Teacher. 2. Use a calm voice and ask to

talk to him or her privately – “May I speak to you in private, please?”

3. Say the inappropriate behavior clearly and in detail.

4. Explain why you are making the report.

5. Answer any questions the teacher has.
