    Pune, formerly Poona, is the eighthlargest metropolis in India, the secondlargest in the state of Maharashtra afterMumbai, and the largest city in the

    GSPD

    At current prices, the Gross State Domestic Product(GSDP) of Maharashtra was US$ 210 billion in 2010-11.The Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of GSDPfrom 2004-05 to 2010-11 was about 15.6 per cent.Maharashtra ranks first amongst all the Indian states interms of GSDP.

    Per-Capita

    The states per capita GSDP in 2009 -10 was US$ 1,950.The per capita GSDP has increased at a CAGR of 13.9per cent between 2004-05 and 2010-11.

    Pune is also known as Oxford of East because of its educationcenters,universities,research schools like PUMBA,ISB&M,SIBM,FTII,IUCAA,AFMC,AIT and 200 more.Last 5 years make Pune one of the favourite destination for ITcompanies because of its proximity to Mumbai,good weather,available space,employable youth.Pune is the largest hub in India for German companies.More than 200german companies set up buisness in pune . Tata Motors , Buckau Wolf ,KSB

    Pumps, Hindustan Antibiotics and several others also make their hub inPune.Retail sector is also gaining pace in pune both organised and unorganised.Inorganised retail growth is more rapid due to involvement of big real estategroups.Pune organised retail consist ofmalls ,hypermarkets,supermarketsand number of fashionable brands . Pune witnessed an infusion of approximately 500,000 square feet of mall space in the first quarter of 2012and approx 10,00,000square feet are expected in second quarter.
