Requirement Action

Design vacuum pumping system to meet requirements of IFE target chamber(s) including a 5m R chamber in accordance with system specifications

Proposed conceptual design employing conventional components indicates that system requirements can be achieved

Provide a cost-effective/ economical low maintenance system to meet requirements

Employ pumping system for multiple purposes (i.e., TMP backing pumps also configured to rough down target chamber)

Employ commercial off- the-shelf components with good operational history

Provide a system for “eventual” D-T operations

Proposed system configured to transition to D-T operations

Design Parameters:Design Parameters:

– Employ commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components to minimize costs.

– Employ high efficiency turbo molecular pumps backed by roughing pumps.

– Employ components which have good operational history in similar environments.

– Develop an accurate cost estimate from vendors; detailed quotes.

– Design system to transition to D-T operations with minimal modifications.

– Design system to meet base pressure and operation pressure in accordance with 5 Hz and higher (10 Hz) repetition rate (burst) operation.

– Employ components which have minimal maintenance requirements.
