Turning the power ON awer ON and OFF
Always check that there are no obstacles or people near the machinesmovable parts before operating the machine.
If the machine stops due to a power failure, turn the Main Power SwitchOFF immediately.
) The machine cannot operate unless the power is supplied correctly. Amomentary power stoppage due to a power failure or lightning can cause
an accident. Therefore, stop the machine if abnormal fluctuation of power
supply due to lightning, etc. is anticipated.
) Before starting machine operation, make sure that all of the gauges(hydraulic pressure, lubricating oil pressure, compressed air pressure, etc.) indicate the set values.
) After power ON, make sure that all pumps are operating correctly.PM35OPE16Page 1.1 1nd OFF

Set up
Never touch any switch with wet hands.
The machine should be operated by one, well-trained person only.Serious accident can occur if more than one person operates the machine
because the machine can be operated by the other while one is changing
the fixture or workpiece. If more than one operator is absolutely necessary,
all involved operators must cooperate and be able to communicate.
) Always turn the power OFF before performing setup. If setup must be performed with the power ON, set the switches on the
operation panel to the following positions :
(a) Mode Selector Switch ------------------ Handle(b) Workpiece in the chuck ---------------- Removed(c) Override switches
(Cutting Feed, Rapid Traverse) ------ Lowest position(e) Machine lock ----------------------------- ON
) Do not put your hands on the turret while the turret is being indexed andmoved.
) Cover your hair and do not wear loose clothing or jewelry to avoid becom-ing tangled or caught in the machine. Always wear proper shoes when
operating the machine.
) Never try to open the door while the spindle is rotating to remove chips ortry to touch the workpiece or cutting tools.
) Never touch any rotating part : make sure that the part has stopped rotat-ing before touching it.
) Never try to touch the tools in the turret while the machine is operating.) When loosening the bolts on the fixture, be sure to loosen them gradually.) Clamp the workpiece and cutting tools securely. Depth of cut and cutting
feed must be selected with small values.PM35OPE16Page 1.2 1

Set up
) When manual fixture is used, always remove the clamp handle from thefixture after tightening
) Be careful not to operate the wrong switch.Visually check the switches on the operation panel before operating them.
) The work lamp will be very hot after it has been lit for a long period.Be careful not to touch it.
) Make sure that the tool holders, tools and workpieces are all tightenedsecurely. Be careful that the tool will not interfere with the workpiece or the
machine. Make sure that the tools mounted in the turret are well balanced.
) Before setting cutting tools in the turret, clean the turret surface with cleanrag to remove chips and foreign matter.
) When fixing a cutting tool such as end mill in the turret, alsways use thespecial fixing tool to fix the tool holder in it, tighten the tool in the tool
holder securely. Never tighten a cutting tool with the tool holder attached
to the turret. When holding the tool holder in the turret, be careful so that
the tool holder surface will not be damaged.PM35OPE16Page 1.2 2

tion
Never touch or stand near the moving units of the machine while themachine is operating. Serious injury can occur by being caught in therotating unit or between the moving parts.
) Never touch any switch with wet hands.
Keep the doors(complete cover, splash guard) closed while the machine isoperating. The area inside the doors contains many sources of potential
danger-the chuck rotating at a high speed with a workpiece in it, the turret
with moves along many directions with a number of tools, splashing cool-
ant, and flying chips.
) While the chuck is rotating, never try to open the door to remove chips ortry to touch the workpiece or cutting tools.
) Never touch any rotating part : make sure that the part has stopped rotat-ing before touching it.
) Never remove the covers unless absolutely necessary.) Never start machine operation without the safety devices in place.) Cover your hair and do not wear loose clothing to avoid becoming tangled
or caught in the machine. Always wear proper shoes when operating the
machine.
) Never try to touch the tools in the turret while the machine is operating.) Do not lean on the machine while the machine is operating. Leaning on the
covers can be very dangerous.
) After the completion of a cycle, before removing a machined workpieceand setting a new workpiece, always check that the Cycle Start Indicator is
not lit and that the Program End Indicator is lit.
) Do not put your hands the turret when indexing.) Clamp the workpiece and cutting tools securely. Depth of cut and cutting

) Never put any tools or instruments on the machine operation panel or onany machine part.
) When working or walking beneath the operation panel, be careful not hityour head to the operation panel.
) Before pressing the Cycle Start Switch to begin automatic operation, make sure that the Dry Run Switch is set in the OFF position and that all
other switches such as the Spindle Override Switch and the Feedrate
Override Switch are set to the proper position.
) When running a new program for the first time, check the program num-ber. Never attempt to start a new program in the automatic mode : care-
fully run the program one block at a time using the single block function.
) During automatic mode operation, be careful not to touch any switchesinadvertently.
) Be careful not to operate the wrong switch. Visually check the switches on the operation panel before operating
them.
) If an hard overtravel alarm occurs, the axis interlock must be released tomove the axis. In this case, never move the axis in opposite direction.
