Publishing a Test/Exam from Respondus to Blackboard There are two steps involved in publishing a test or exam to Blackboard from Respondus: Step 1: create a Respondus file by Importing Questions/ Answers from a Word Document 1. Publishing a Test/Exam from Respondus to Blackboard

There are two steps involved in publishing a test or exam to Blackboard from Respondus:

Step 1: create a Respondus file by Importing Questions/ Answers from a Word Document

1. Run Respondus on your computer. Note: Respondus works on PC only.

2. You can import a test/exam that you already have in Microsoft Word document or create a new test/exam within Respondus. In this tutorial, you will learn how to import an exam that’s already saved in a Microsoft Word document. Choose Import Question from a Text file button:

3. On the Import Questions dialog box, choose Microsoft Word 2007 (DOCX) type of file or another type of file that your test/exam is saved in. Most instructors create and save their tests/exams in Microsoft Word 2007 or higher version:

4. Browse to the test/exam file on your computer by clicking on the Browse button:

5. After importing questions from Word document, give your Respondus file a name. It is recommended that you enable “stem” to create unique questions titles. Using stems in the question title will avoid potential warnings and errors. It also keeps questions database (pool) in Blackboard organized. Click on Preview button to check for any problems. If no warnings and errors appear, click on the Finish button to create a Respondus test file.

6. Choose OK on the prompt:

7. Click on Preview & Publish tab in Respondus and choose Publish to Blackboard in the left-side menu:

8. Click on Publish Wizard button and on the Publish Wizard dialog box, choose “Save Pool to local file for manual uploading”. Choose Next:

9. Click on Save As to save the Pool file on your local computer. We recommend saving on Desktop for quick access:

10. Choose “Test with Points” and click on Finish:

11. The test/exam pool file will be created and saved in the location indicated in the previous step:

Step 2: Import the Pool/Test File into a Blackboard Course

Now that the test/exam file is saved on your computer’s desktop. It is time to import this test (file) of questions in to a Blackboard course. Follow the steps below:

12. Log in to Blackboard at https://learn.humber.ca

13. Choose a course where you wish to import the test file into

14. In the Control Panel of your Blackboard course, expand Course Tools and choose Tests, Surveys, and Pools:

15. Click on Tests:

16. Click on Import Test button:

17. On the next page, click on Browse My Computer button and browse to the exam file you created in Step 1. The file was saved on Desktop in this tutorial.

18. Click on the Submit button:

19. You should see a Test Import Complete message if everything goes well:

20. The test/exam is imported in to the course. You can now choose to edit this exam or deploy it to a content area in your course such as Assessment.
