We Relay for Life! When Relay for Life comes around each year, our employees take an active role to help raise money for the American Cancer Society (ACS). As the non-profit organization’s signature event, Relay brings people together in hope, celebration and remem- brance, and the ACS is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health disease. Again this year, our employees held an internal pledge campaign for Relay for Life with donations designated for counties across our service area. The pledge campaign raised $4,539 along with the sales of luminaries and barn quilt raffle tickets, bringing the overall total to $5,354 to benefit the American Cancer Society. In addi- tion to our active Ashe County team, SkyLine’s Alleghany employees formed a team in that county this year, and our Avery employees rallied around the Bodie’s StarHeels team in memory of Thad Vance, helping to raise an additional $1,626. To our members who have supported us through these various fund-raising activities, we thank you! Together, we’re all making a difference in the fight against cancer. Special thanks also to the Quilt Square Girls for donating a barn quilt to benefit the Ashe County Relay for Life again this year. The first lap of each Relay and the luminary service are the most meaningful aspects of this annual event to honor all those who have battled cancer in their lifetime.
