Howdy OCers,

The Big White Ski trip was one of the best vacations I have ever been on. The Snow was plentiful and we also had 3 bluebird days, which are rare. Most locals complain that it snows all the time and they miss the sun! The Resort itself had much more to offer than I expected, and is very family friendly. You walk or ski through the center of town and then head up to the Snow Ghosts. It was explained to me that in the beginning of winter, freezing rainstorms will form a frozen covering on the trees which results in their being dressed with snow. It turns into an amazing site. ORGANIZED SKIING

Matt Quackenbush

Vice President for Organized Skiing

As the Ski Carves

Abrupt end to the season.

We cancelled all buses before the mountains closed. We had the plan to do drive-ups, with negotiated rates, before the Mountains closed. Lynda Heaney (Bus Committee Co Chair) did an outstanding job trying to make that happen. Unfortu-nately, the first drive up day, people drove, only to find the Mountain closed that day. Rapidly followed by all mountains in the East, one by one. Then the Cana-dian Mountains and finally the Western Resorts.

Gail Marotti Hossan as well as Matt Wakefield, Eileen Finn-LeMatty and the

trip leaders jumped into action to procure refunds and renegotiate. I can not say how much I appreciate the hard work (which is still in process) that these people did as well as the additional work that will be necessary to distribute refunds (thank you to Cathy Marvin and SylviaBritt- Haefli for the extra work coming up). It always amazes me how we can come together as a club.

Speaking of work, just a reminder, we are a volunteer oriented club. We rely on Volunteers. We need all our members to step up, all the time. If you are available, we need you. Ours is a very large club and there are many positions necessary to run an organization of this size. See what you can do. These positions are not just skiing related, as you probably know. We have numerous positions which are critical to the operation of the club and we need all the help we can get. Step up!

Elections are upon us, we want you to vote. Look for info to come, very shortly, about voting online for the first time ever. With all that is going on we too, have to adapt. We will need an on line Quorum, so do not miss the vote.

The Board Meeting was held on Thursday, March 5, 2020. Here is a summary of what took place. Complete minutes are found on the website.

• Events -past and future were discussed. See event details in this newsletter or online.

• Elections: Nominations are March 19 and 26. Voting takes place on April 9.

• The Liftline will only be digital beginning in June 2020 due to costs and vendor issues.

• Ski Trips: Italy trip has been postponed until 2021. At the time of the Board meeting, Utah and Mt. Tremblant had not yet been cancelled. They are now and refunds are being worked.

• Buses – Since the Board meeting – all buses were cancelled.

• NYCDSC – Cynthia Ward gave update.

• Council discount tickets at Killington should be purchased at Snowshed.

The next meeting is April 2, 2020?

The Board has had several emergency conference call meetings to address elections due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As you are most likely aware by now, Nominations and Elections are being handled digitally.

OC Board Meeting Highlights

Ok, so in 2016 I was running the Elections process and I noted “it’s been an odd Winter but the OCs still found plenty of skiing wherever they ventured”. I don’t recall exactly why 2016 was so odd but 2020 certainly beats it - we could have found plenty of skiing had we not been mandated to be socially conscious and remain home for the duration of this pandemic. Thank you for whatever part you played in helping to flatten the curve OR for being one of those whose skills were essential to the rest of us remaining as healthy as possible. For those who have been negatively impacted by this virus please know that you have the sympathy of your OC Friends.

Not only is the Club known for skiing but also for lots of activities organized by your fellow OC Committee Chairs (Volunteers!!!) and overseen by your OC Officers and Board members. With Spring comes the time for OC Elections! The OC Elections give members the chance to choose who will be overseeing club activities next year.

Members will be voting on the following positions – our Officers are running unopposed but we still have to vote them in.

OC ELECTIONS - IT’S TIME TO CHANGE IT UP!!!!

Nominations for these positions were taken via an email process from March 19 – 27th

• Elections will be held electronically due to the social limitations imposed by COVID-19. This electronic process is completely anonymous and controlled by the software. If we want to we can know who voted but not the details of the individual ballot. The system tabulates and produces a report.

You will receive an emailed invitation to vote by Saturday, April 4th

If you don’t receive an invitation it means that we do not have your current email address in our database

• If you know that your membership record contains an old email address AND you want to vote please email us to update your record by Friday, April 3rd

• Membership records which share an email address with another member will be sent only 1 email but the other member may vote online using his/her own membership # and the link in the email or below

Details:

• Voting schedule: 12 noon – 11:59pm on Thursday April 9th

• You will be allowed to vote only 1 time - the system will keep track of all voting (& it’s been tested!!!)

• A record of your vote will be provided - you will have the option to print this receipt
