Advertising is one, small component we use to fulfill our mission in addressing

major health issues.

Some DSHS programs that advertise

• Organ donation • Educate people on becoming organ donors

• Diabetes• Increase awareness, early diagnosis and treatment of

chronic kidney disease

• Immunizations• Promote recommended immunization schedule

• Tobacco• Prevent and/or reduce tobacco use

• Community Preparedness• Prepare Texans for natural or man-made disasters

Advertising Expenses FY 06 and FY 07

• FY 06 advertising expenses = $7,369,936• Federal Funds = $3,314,802 • General Revenue Funds = $4,055,134

• FY 07 advertising expenses = $7,548,445• Federal Funds = $4,363,191• General Revenue Funds = $3,185,254

Organ Donation

• Promote registration on Glenda Dawson Donate Life Texas Registry

• Multi-media education campaign

• 61% increase in total certified registrants

End Stage Renal Disease

• 80th Legislature allocated funding

• Decrease the number of new End Stage Renal Disease cases in Texas.

• Multi-media education and prevention campaign

• Outreach to individuals at risk for ESRD

• Launched Late Spring 2008

Tobacco

• Multi-media campaigns

• Aims to reduce tobacco use among youth and adults

• Eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke

Immunizations

• Multi-media educational campaigns• Promotes importance of keeping children’s

vaccinations up to date • Focus on children receiving the 4th dose of

the DTaP vaccine (diphtheria, tetanus, acellular pertussis)

• Also have focused on pertussis (whooping cough)

WIC – New Food Package

• Education campaign on new food package

• Targets participants, vendors, WIC staff, and partners

• Prepare WIC participants to shop, prepare and use WIC foods
