Robert Earl Price is an African American playwright and poet. He is a recipient of the AmericanFilm Institute's William Wyler award for screenwriting and is the author of four books of poetry andhas had eleven plays produced in American regional theaters and abroad in Berlin andJohannesburg. He is artist-in-residence in the Drama Department at Washington College inChestertown, Maryland, where he also serves as artistic director of the Charles Sumner G.A.R. Post#25, a historic hall built in 1908 to honor African-American veterans of the Civil War. Some of hismany wonderful works include; Cat Bones for Seven Sons, Blue Monk, Come on in My Kitchen, andAll Blues. He currently serves as the Kent County Arts' Project Coordinator for their Maryland PoetryCircuit program.

Stanley Plumly was born in Barnesville, Ohio, and grew up in the lumber and farming regions ofVirginia and Ohio. His father was a lumberjack and welder who died at age fifty-six of a heart attacklinked to his alcoholism. Plumly's parents, and his working-class upbringing, figure frequently in hiswork, especially his early books. Plumly was educated at Wilmington College, a Quaker school inOhio, and Ohio University, where he earned his PhD. He is the author of numerous collections ofpoetry, including In the Outer Dark (1970), winner of the Delmore Schwartz Memorial Award, andOut-of-the-Body Travel (1978), nominated for the National Book Critics Circle Award.

Sky Pop! is a gathering and sharing opportunity for local talent (students, emergingartists, professional artists) to offer a creative showcase: Artist demonstrations, sales,

live performances of music and poetry, interactive arts activities. Admission is free. Each event in the series features a variety of vendors displaying & selling art, food,creative & practical products, along with demos & performance. Enjoy an interactive

shopping experience that features the many creative aspects of our community.

Artists Anthony Owens and Tony Woods created a work of public art to recognizethe Way Station's important work in the community and to beautify the space. Themural was unveiled Tuesday at the Way Station's South Street residential facilityand provides a colorful expression of hope in the facility's community room and

serves as an example of art making a difference!

of performing arts workshops for youth.

The one- to five-day performing arts workshops are unique in Frederick County and willprovide a fast-paced learning experience meant to give a taste of what New Spire Artshas planned for the fall semester and beyond. Workshops will be available for all agesand knowledge levels and will be led by professional artists in a variety of disciplines.

Workshops will take place at New Spire Spaces, the former Board of Ed andArtomatic host at 115 East Church Street. New Spire Spaces is one of two buildingsbeing activated by New Spire Arts, and will host all programming until renovation iscomplete at New Spire Stages, the former Cultural Arts Center at 15 W Patrick.

In addition, New Spire Arts internship applications are open and available in theProgramming, Education and Marketing departments. These internships offer hands-on practical experience for college students or recent college graduates preparing fora career in the arts and non-profit sectors. College credit, community service and/orfieldwork hours are available.

The Frederick Symphony Orchestra will play our final masterworks season concert tocelebrate romance across timeless stories from movies and Broadway.

The orchestra will be performing The Titanic Medley by James Horner, followed byselections based on William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. This will include Love

Theme from Romeo and Juliet (also known as "A Time for Us") by Nino Rota and Romeoand Juliet Fantasy-Overture by Pyotr Tchaikovsky.

After intermission, the orchestra will perform the theme from Forrest Gump by AlanSilvestri and Calvin Custer, Phantom of the Opera by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Custer,

and Symphonic Dances from West Side Story by Leonard Bernstein.

Emmitsburg Community Chorus Begins 50th Annual Spring Season

The Emmitsburg Community Chorus will bepresenting its 50th annual spring concert 3pmSunday, May 21, 2017 at Apples Church (7908Apples Church Road) in Thurmont, MD. Their concertwill feature a medley of songs from the longest runningbroadway musical, Les Miserables, and other diversefavorites from Neil Diamond, Bach, and Andrew LloydWebber. Emmitsburg Community Chorus is a 25 - 30 membervolunteer chorus, which with the spring concerts brings to

a close its 50th Anniversary year. The chorus for the past ten years continues under thedirection of Peggy Flickinger and pianist, Lisa Mattia. The Apple's Church concert on May 21 is free and open to the public with a free will offeringto help cover chorus expenses, which are partially made possible by grants from theMaryland State and Frederick Arts Councils. The chorus will also sing the following additional free concerts, which are open tothe public:

In May TAG will feature two solo exhibitions of paintings: Colleen Clapp's "Four TimesThree," a series of four large triptychs, and Linda Constant Robinson's "Revelations in Facesand Flowers." There will also be a show of work by the other members of the gallery. Theseshows run from May 5 through 28, with a reception from 5 to 9pm during First Saturdayon May 6.
