Their plans are college, work, military or travel. •Student actvities continued to include communications (Campanile, Madrono with a new format, video production, V oice, Infocus, Viking); productions (such as theater, choirs and bands); many clubs and the award-winning Mock Trial and Robotics - just to name a few. Sports teams excelled: see palysports.com •A sampling of news: Paly sophomore William Lee won the 2009 Congressional Art Competition for California’s 14th Congressional District last Saturday and his work will be on display in the U.S. Capitol Building for a year. He was encouraged to enter by his art teacher, Anna Eng, who just retired. Drama teacher Ka thleen Woods will lead a Paly theater group to Scotland to attend and perform in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the rst time from Aug. 4-17. Paly was one of 50 schools so honored. The musical that Paly Theater students will perform at the festival is called “Young Americans.” It focuses on the role of music in teenagers’ lives every decade since the 1950s. David Rapaport’s history classes interviewed a Holocaust survivor and have published a book and CD of her experiences. AP Mandarin Chinese classes will be offered at Paly next year, but without teacher Norman Masuda who retired. •Proposals for a new media center, a new theater, a restored Tower building and other improvements for Palo Alto High School programs are underway after a $378 million school bond passed during the June 2008 election. There will be a new two-story building with classrooms for the media classes and student publications. The new media center will be built where the portables near the history and English buildings are currently located.
