Promoting Corporate Values through the PTC Groupie Shot Contest PTC on the Move at 37! PTC celebrated its 37th anniversary with a renewed commitment to its vision and strengthened synergy within the PTC community in the fulfillment of the company’s mission. The anniversary celebration last February 17 started with a mass celebrated by Fr. Tito Caluag who urged employees of the PTC Group to take stock of the past 37 years and reflect on how faithful they have been to the company’s mission and vision. He added, “Ask yourselves what else can you do…and go back to the grace that brought you to the call that you responded to as a company.” PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo echoed this message of renewal and reflection, encouraging employees to stay on course relative to the organization’s values and to understand “who we are as a company and why we do what we do.” He also noted that what makes this year’s anniversary significant is the implementation of “The PTC Group on the Move... All Hands on Deck,” an organization-wide program aimed at driving transformation across the PTC Group. In support of this project, an Open House was organized on February 19 at the Legaspi Room featuring the various member companies and partners of the PTC Group who conducted activities to showcase their respective offerings and services. Participating groups included PTC’s Family and Crew Relations, ACM Homes, LifeLinks International Resources, First Maritime Shared Services, First Maritime Credit Corp., First Maritime Communications Technologies (FMCT), Constellation Travels, Health Metrics, Northern Star Energy, PHILCAMSAT, Aviation Career Management Innovators (ACMI World), PTC MIL-COM Aviation Training Center Inc., and ANGKLA. Aside from having the chance to learn more about the PTC Group, employees who attended also enjoyed freebies and other fun treats courtesy of the affiliates and their sponsors. A fun PTC Group Get-Together held at the Main Sail Café capped the day’s festivities where attendees enjoyed the camaraderie of their fellow employees while being wowed with impressive dance and song numbers, as well as, live band performances courtesy of talented PTC employees. Prizes and exciting treats were continuously raffled off throughout the night which included HappyPlus cards from Northern Star, Generika gift packs, a Donsol Eco Tour Package from FMCT and a roundtrip ticket to Amsterdam from Constellation Travels courtesy of KLM Airlines. 03/2016 Volume 12 Issue 2 A PTC Global Maritime Professional: The Big Difference Over the past 6 months, PTC Global Maritime Professionals (GMPs) have been undergoing continued transformation through a specialized workshop dubbed as “The Big Difference.” The half-day seminar has already been attended by more than 1,500 PTC GMPs to date. The seminar tackles two very important topics integral to what sets a PTC GMP apart from other seafarers. The first segment, facilitated by Ms. Glenda Villanueva of PHILCAMSAT, offers training in bearing and social graces as part of their overall leadership development. The second part is conducted by basketball legend Chito Loyzaga, where he shares the principles that have led him to become a successful, professional athlete. Among these is the importance of properly preparing for any game, or in the case of GMPs - any task onboard or challenge in life, by conditioning oneself physically, through proper diet and nutrition; mentally, psychologically, and spiritually. He also emphasized the importance of always doing one’s best, playing by the rules, knowing one’s role in the team, cultivating one’s talents to overcome challenges, humility and continuous self-improvement. PTC on CNN Philippines’ Serbisyo All Access PTC Executive Director Karen Avelino appeared as a resource person on CNN Philippines’ public service program “Serbisyo All Access” to discuss the various career opportunities available for Filipinos onboard cruise and cargo vessels. During the live airing of the program, Ms. Avelino shared how rewarding a career at sea could be as it provides skilled, talented and hardworking Filipinos a means to provide a good future for their family while being able to expand their own horizons by travelling to exciting destinations all over the world. However, she also cautioned against the challenges of being away from home, which PTC helps address through various programs for the families of their seafarers. She also guided jobseekers on the application process and advised prospective applicants to continue honing their skills through relevant training and doing well in their current jobs to have a greater chance of landing their dream careers onboard. Ms. Avelino was also on the ABS-CBN public affairs program “Failon Ngayon” to stress the value of education and experience in the pursuit of a career at sea, adding that working on international vessels is a great opportunity to highlight to the world just how outstanding and hardworking Filipino seafarers are. The launch of PTC’s 2016 campaign celebrating the PTC Global Maritime Professional as the Big Difference and the embodiment of Professionalism, Trustworthiness and Commitment was also held in time for the anniversary festivities. ANGKLA Kicks Off National Campaign ANGKLA party-list commenced their campaign for continued sectoral representation in Congress last February 9 through simultaneous kick-off activities all over the country. Starting from First Maritime Place in Makati all the way to the Luneta Seafarers’ Welfare Foundation, Inc. (LUSWELF) in Luneta, Manila, seafarers, maritime industry leaders and stakeholders gathered to show their support for ANGKLA as represented by Cong. Jesulito Manalo and Vice-Chairman Capt. Ronald Enrile. In Laguna, campaign leaders conducted talks with barangay leaders to discuss ANGKLA’s accomplishments and socio-economic programs while in Cebu, supporters held a motorcade around the city to help spread awareness of ANGKLA’s legislative agenda. Having already enacted four laws during its first term in congress, ANGKLA is now working to have two seats in the House of Representatives to further address the needs of the maritime sector. ANGKLA is officially listed as Number 43 in the roster of party-list candidates on the May 2016 official ballot. PTC Group employees displayed how they have practiced PTC’s core values through “In Focus: The PTC Group Groupie Shot Contest” held as part of the launch of the program “The PTC Group on the Move...All Hands on Deck!” The contest, which ran from February 2 to 12, was open to all departments and affiliates of the PTC Group to showcase PTC’s core values of Integrity, Commitment, Concern for our people, Corporate Sustainability and Customer Focus through their creative group photos. Bagging first place was Northern Star’s entry on Integrity; with Constellation Travels’ feature on Commitment placing second; and PTC Cebu’s Customer Focus securing third place.

CTI at the Travel Tour Expo 2016Constellation Travels Inc. (CTI) once again treated jetsetters to fantastic local and international travel deals as they took part in this year’s Travel Tour Expo (TTE) 2016 held last February 5 to 7 at the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

Organized by the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA), the expo gathered over 300 exhibitors from various sectors such as airlines, resorts, hotels, domestic tour operators, national tourism organizations, travel agencies and other stakeholders offering various products, flight options, travel packages and more. Simultaneous with this year’s expo, the PTAA also staged the International Travel Trade Expo, a business-to-business travel trade expo which tapped the growing Philippine market for overseas travel.

PTC’s Leslie Suntay Selected for Swedish Institute Management ProgramPTC Business Development Manager Marcus Leslie Suntay has been selected to be part of the Swedish Institute Management Programme Asia 2016 (SIMP Asia), a three-week intensive training funded by the Swedish Government, on sustainable business and responsible leadership. This is the first time since its inception in 2008 that the program, initially open to European citizens only, has been offered to participants from Asia. Out of hundreds of applicants, only 30 participants from the Philippines, India, Indonesia, Thailand, China and Vietnam were selected to take part in the program.

The program curriculum revolves around advanced business-related problem solving, seminars and meetings with front figures in the commercial, political and cultural fields, as well as on-site company visits. By providing the platform for knowledge sharing, experience exchange and quality networking, the program aims to challenge traditional approaches, reinforce professional skills, deepen cross-cultural perspectives and unite the participants in a long-lasting and active global network. The program is scheduled to commence on April and will be conducted in both Asia and Sweden.

PTC Holds Kick-Off Meeting in Albay PTC reached out to Bicol-based PTC Global Maritime Professionals (GMPs) at a Kick-Off Meeting last February 6 at Alvi’s Albay Café in Daraga, Albay.

During the meeting, PTC’s Family & Crew Relations briefed attendees on access to the company’s services for its GMPs and their allottees. Updates regarding the labor sector of the maritime industry were given by Engr. Michael D. Marantal, LEO III, from the Department of Labor and Employment - Albay.

Volunteers of the ANGKLA party-list, headed by Mr. Leslie Suntay, were also present to give attendees an overview of ANGKLA’s accomplishments in first three years in congress championing the cause of Filipino seafarers. An open forum followed to address questions raised by the attendees.

Guinness World Record Confirms Largest Human Anchor

The world record title for the “largest human image of an anchor” has now been officially conferred to ANGKLA and the University of Antique (UA) as confirmed by the Records Management Team of the Guinness World Records on February 24. The feat was accomplished on January 19, 2016 at the University of Antique campus in Siba-Lom, Antique, and involved 6,000 participants including UA students, faculty members and staff. The anchor formation was a response to a challenge from ANGKLA and was co-organized by PTC in celebration of the university’s 62nd founding anniversary.

PHILCAMSAT’s Karen Avelino at the IMO Meeting on HTW PTC Executive Director Karen Avelino took part in the Third Session of the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Sub-Committee on Human Element, Training and Watchkeeping (HTW) last February 1 to 5 at the IMO Headquarters in Lambeth Road, London. Ms. Avelino was part of the Philippine delegation composed of representatives from the Philippine Association of

Maritime Training Center, Incorporated (PAMTCI); the Maritime Industry Authority; and the Philippine Consulate in London.

Ms. Avelino participated in the working group focused on the review of STCW passenger ship-specific safety training amendments to SOLAS Chapter II-1 and associated guidelines on damage control drills for passenger ships. Other items discussed during the meeting included the validation of a number of model courses; revisions to the guidelines on the Implementation of the International Safety (ISM) Code by Administrations; the implementation of the STCW convention and the initiation of the comprehensive review of the STCW-F Convention.

The meeting was opened by IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim and was chaired by Vice-Chairman Ms. Mayte Medina of the United States.

Officers of the government-owned National Maritime Polytechnic which has been at the forefront of government’s efforts to ensure the continued advancement of Filipino seafaring expertise, visited PTC and PHILCAMSAT last February 3 in an effort to align their overall strategic direction with industry developments. The NMP delegation was composed of Executive Director Manuel Roldan; Capt. Jess Laguitan, Chief of Maritime Training Division; Atty. Ruben Maceda, Chief of Administration and Finance and USEC Jeffrey Cortazar of the Department of Labor and Employment.

National Maritime Polytechnic Visits PTC and PHILCAMSAT

PTC Centina Achieves CVP ApprovalPTC Centina, through its local subsidiary PT SAS, has been granted approval by the Crew Visa Program of the US Embassy in Jakarta, Indonesia to process the deployment of Indonesian crew in vessels with US itineraries. Positioned as one of the key providers of crew management services in Indonesia, PTC Centina aims to provide job opportunities to Indonesian seafarers who wish to embark on a rewarding and long-term career in the shipping industry. Aside from developing quality maritime manpower for the company’s internationally-renowned cruise line client, PTC Centina also has strong deployment capabilities in the offshore sector, as well as, in land-based positions.

Gerardo Borromeo at the ICS Board Meeting At the regular Board Meeting of the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) at London, last February 2, the ICS adopted a new 10-year strategic roadmap to enhance and expand the role of the ICS across all stakeholders of the maritime industry to help further build a positive image of shipping.

ICS Vice-Chairman Gerardo Borromeo reported that the ICS also discussed the need for all member companies to help mitigate the harmful effects of climate change by incorporating into their overall plans, ways and means to lessen their carbon footprint.

Anchor for Excellence Maritime Quiz Bee PTC congratulates the winners of the continuing preliminary legs of the Anchor for Excellence Maritime Quiz Bee from Midway Maritime Foundation, University of Saint Anthony, Bicol Merchant Marine College, University of Northeastern Philippines, Philippine Merchant Marine Academy and Mapúa-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training and John B.
