5 Robbie Wessels is ’n kunstenaar enig in sy soort. As akteur, sanger,

tell us more about this new album of yours and the type of feel and sound fans can expect?Skildery is the first single from my album and we closed 2014 with this special song reaching number 1 on the charts. I’m very proud of this album, as it’s my first Afrikaans album in three years. It’s also my first ever, fully original album (the twelve tracks were all written specifically for Skildery). The album is vocal driven, with mature pop songs and melodies and a strong adult, contemporary/pop production.

What was the production journey like? Any personal favourites from the album?Recording Skildery was special... I recorded all my vocals in the Cape’s fresh air, relaxed atmosphere and beautiful surroundings. I felt inspired and energised. Sometimes one grows into an album, but with Skildery I feel very ‘in the moment’ with it. It’s hard to pick one favourite, ask me again a year from now (laughs).

Nádine’s new album Skildery has been topping charts since the end of last year. The star from Montana reveals what life has taught her about love, the sacrifices she had to make for fame and fortune, and whether the crazy rollercoaster of fame ever gets too much. By Natashia Slabbert.

get covered in paint from head to toe. tell us about the colourful concept behind this video? It was a great idea that came from the producer of the album, Johan, who also wrote the song. We wanted to link the colour and creativity of the song with the actual music video and album cover. Someone had actually asked me on social media if the album cover was Photoshopped. Believe me, I was covered in real paint – it was a very messy, yet fun shoot!     Apart from the album, you’ve also

been busy presenting the new Afrikaans game show Musiek

Roulette. What do you love most about it? I simply love testing contestants’ music knowledge

and watching them win prize money, if chance happens to be in their

favour. I feel so proud of the game show’s success and the wonderful TV family at SABC and Stemmburg TV, who’ve opened their arms and hearts to me.

Fame and fortune is not all glitz and glamour though. there are plenty of downsides. At what cost has fame come to you? What are some of the biggest sacrifices you’ve had to make?Everything comes at a price... Not being able to spend birthdays with the special people in my life, losing precious time when travelling to and from far places,

investing time, energy and money into recordings with no guarantee of success and criticism from those who don’t really know you but nevertheless want to raise an opinion always hurts. It’s a challenge for me not to be personally affected by every single thing that happens in my life and career, but sometimes you have to distance yourself a bit and remember that it’s also a business. You cannot make emotional decisions when you become your own record label.   you’re in a very busy season of your life, with a schedule jam-packed with rehearsals, music tours, tV appearances, live shows, photo shoots, etc. you travel almost non-stop. do you ever feel like it gets too much? What motivates you to keep going? I think we all reach that limit when we have to re-energise and rest. With Musiek Roulette, Nadine Musiek, Skildery and touring and live shows it has indeed been a hectic year. And since live shows are my main income, it isn’t always possible to just take a holiday when I want. But I believe in ‘work hard, play hard’. Do the things that truly make you happy, and when you feel down or exhausted, surround yourself with people who love you. I have wonderful people in my life. They make all the difference!

do you believe in Valentine’s day? Yes, I love it! I love the red, the roses, the love, the romance, the feeling of beauty all around us and the desire for everyone to rediscover the beauty in someone else.

Are you seeing anyone at the moment? Yes…

do you have a particular type? It’s important to me that the man in my life grants me the freedom to

grow, live and change. We respect each other, which I believe is the most important quality in any relationship.    Biggest celeb crush… Ryan Gosling.

Worst date ever... An Afrikaans guy I really liked and knew well had an entire conversation with me in English, although I kept on replying in Afrikaans...weird...

today celebs face even more pressure due to social media. how do you handle all the attention and social media stalkers/cyberbullies?I am constantly busy on my Facebook page. I post, read and reply as often as I possibly can and insist on doing it myself, otherwise it’s fake. Luckily I focus on my own page and not on other social media pages. Sometimes people think that artists don’t read comments that are made about them, but we do. And we do take it personally because we put ourselves out there and give everything in the hope that people will connect with the way we passionately create our music for our fans. I feel very connected with my fans on my page and I think they are super cool individuals who always respond very honestly to everything I do. Most of all, I love their honesty.   you’ve come a long way since you first started performing as a young girl nearly two decades ago. Looking back, what is the biggest lesson you’ve learned? The biggest lesson I’ve learned since the day I started singing is that you cannot please everyone, so focus on your own supporters; they are the ones who count. Be honest in your creativity and with yourself. Also, be informed, and think twice before commenting on something or someone else. I’ve embarrassed myself multiple times before! (laughs)   What has life taught you about love? That nothing is ever a guarantee. So make the most of your time together – today. Appreciate one another, embrace beautiful times, don’t change the one you fell in love with, and know that growing old with the one next to you is a privilege one can only hope for...

Something about you that we don’t know? I watch movies very often, I love 1 000-piece puzzles and I play golf.

Appreciate one another, embrace beautiful times, don’t change the one you fell in love with, and know that growing old with the one next to you is a privilege one can only hope for...

Something about you that we don’t know? I watch movies very often, I love 1 000-piece puzzles and I play golf.

She’s also a property specialist for Pam Golding Properties in Mooikloof Estates. She and husband Louwerens are part of Herbalife’s Top Achievers business team.

What would you say is the secret to a successful marriage? We believe any successful marriage is based on grace. We try to over-celebrate and under-criticise. We like who we are in each other’s presence; for us true love is a friendship ignited.

how do you keep the romantic spark in your relationship alive? We’ve been through deep waters together. Louwerens suffered a stroke at the age of 38 (although he was very fit and never drank or smoked) and was left paralysed on the right-hand side. In 2010, at the age of 52, he had a quadruple bypass and open heart surgery. When you come so close to losing your soulmate and best friend, every day becomes a precious gift. You keep the spark alive by appreciating each other and the gift of life every day.

Lisle and Amos MboweniLisle, mother to four precious kids, is a successful advocate.

“Being an advocate is tough – it’s a male-dominated profession, which makes it even more interesting. I chose law because I want to assist people and it’s been one of the best investments in my life. Seeing justice done is very rewarding, but it can be tough when things don’t work out the way you hoped.”

Amos, a senior executive manager at a national company in the land and rights division, is also passionate about his career.

“As a town planner, I always wanted to play a meaningful role in improving human settlement patterns, with the hope of achieving integrated development that promotes opportunities to live, work and play across race, culture, gender and religion.

It’s never easy; it takes a lot of planning and organising. I already sorted out my priorities in the early years and am not negotiable on them, which makes life much easier: I spend time with God first, secondly I honour and cherish my husband and thirdly I’m a mom to my kids. I’m very involved in their lives and make a point of knowing what is going on in their hearts. Only after that am I a businesswoman and a community builder. Every day I get up and try to be a little bit better than the day before, I strive to become the best version of myself. When I fall, I dust myself off and move forward.

With busy schedules and the pressure of daily life, we need to prioritise a night for the two of us. Maybe followed by a massage from Sweetface Spa.

She is also the head girl of the non-profit organisation Caring Daisies. She describes the highlight of her career as the birth of Caring Daisies, which, with the help of her friends, changes lives every day.

Jaco is the owner of one of Discovery’s distribution franchises, better known as Discovery Consulting Services Pretoria.

For the past 12 years he and his team have taken care of a large number of independent financial advisors in Pretoria.

What would you say is the secret to a successful marriage? We believe marriage consists of three pillars: faith, trust and respect. If this is in place, then the most important ingredient of all – love – will automatically happen. From day one we were each other’s best friend and a team.

This year, however, we’re going skiing in Wengen, Switzerland with friends and we are looking forward to a special week away from routine – a huge Valentine’s treat.

she is busy with a capital B. She is bubbly and full of confidence. She already has the right personality to be the next Daisy head girl, because she will simply give away everything she has for someone else. Her dream is to one day shine somewhere on a stage or television set, but this mom is still trying hard to ensure that the sport gene surfaces somewhere.

Sassy stylesdeconstructed braids paired with loose strands framing the face were all the rage at international catwalks recently. It seems braids are definitely here to stay. And there’s a myriad of ways you can wear them. From the classic French braid to an intricate fishtail, there’s a style for every personality. Feeling brave? Browse Pinterest for some clever ideas on more complex braiding styles.

Long, loose waves are also bang on trend this summer. Think natural bohemian – a messy, just-got-out-of-bed style works best. An easy way to achieve this look is to braid your hair while damp and let it air-dry, before adding mousse by raking your fingers through your hair. If you’ve got a long fringe, opt for a deep side parting. No bangs? A middle parting suits this style perfectly.

the humble ponytail has made a definite comeback. Two ponytail-looks that proved to be very popular at recent fashion events were deconstructed, undone styles and sleek, chic ponies. The first is tied together loosely, low in the neck, with only half of the ponytail tucked into the elastic. The latter is pulled back sleekly in a single or double-take pony on top of the head, with no loose strands or fringes in sight. Use a silicone hair serum to nip fly-aways in the bud.

Other exciting hair trends for 2015:

*the air-dry look: style the top part of your hair into a sleek, straight style and let the lower part air-dry for some bouncy texture.*the wet-look: slightly damp or gelled hair, as seen on Versace and Calvin Klein runways, gives a fresh, natural look.*hair accessories are back, from colourful clips and big flowers to glittering jewels.*deep side partings are another big trend to take note of this season.

Chic shadesDeep mahogany and fire-hydrant reds have made way for more golden-tinted hues. Hollywood leading ladies like Amy Adams, Isla Fisher and Debra Messing are picture-perfect examples of the warm, golden red, strawberry champagne and copper tones that are currently trending. These shades are a match made in heaven both for warmer and cooler skin tones. Icy, silver hues are another trend to take note of. Whether opting for a strawberry champagne or a silvery blue shade for your blonde head, remember to invest in proper violet-hued products to keep the colour from going brassy.

Bold and beautifulBold highlights are doing the rounds. Forget about being subtle, this look is about making a statement. Don’t want to look too OTT? Stick to darker roots like chocolate brown and add bold, caramel-coloured streaks to the lower part of your hair, which will add dimension and movement. On the opposite side of the spectrum is ‘babylights’. This much-talked-about trend sees barely visible highlights being added all over for a natural-looking sun-kissed effect. The multi-dimensional style will add a beautiful depth to your natural hair colour.

If your favourite LBD is a bit tighter than usual, or those skinny jeans are sitting a little snugger this year, it may be time to get your health and fitness

back on track. Chantal Lippiatt, co-owner of S.W.E.A.T. 1000 Brooklyn, a fitness franchise specialising in creating the ultimate total body workout, gives us her top five exercises and tips for getting into the best shape of your life.

1BUTTSquats“These are still my favourite exercise. If you squat often and

correctly, you’ll not only burn mega calories, but it’s the first step to a tighter tush!” Chantal says. If you’re new to squats, start off by using a chair that will allow you to bend your knees just over 90°. Keep your back straight, abs tight and feet shoulder-width apart. Extend your arms in front of you and then squat down until your butt just touches the chair (don’t sit down!) and then return to standing. *Kick it up a notch: Hold a set of dumbbells while squatting and do a bicep curl as you come out of the squat.

3 COREplank with a twistForget sit-ups, planking is the way to go if you want six-pack

abs that are rock hard. Start in the plank position: elbows on the floor, legs extended straight back and feet slightly apart, balancing on your toes. Hold, and feel the burn. “As your core strengthens, you should be able to hold this position for longer. Try to do 15 seconds and then slowly work your way up to a full minute or longer.”*Kick it up a notch: Add a twist by bringing your left knee to your left elbow.

Chantal’s Tips for staying committed- Choose an activity you enjoy; you’re more likely to stick with it if it’s fun. Anything requiring extreme hand-eye coordination leaves me cowering in the corner!- Try a workout with friends. There’s nothing like the support you get when you achieve something and it’s great for bonding with the girls.- Don’t overdo it; you don’t want to be limping into the office three days later. Start slow and steady and then pick up the pace as you get stronger. 2LEGS

LungesLunges are another calorie-torching exercise that’ll tighten

and tone your legs. Take one step forward and move downwards, allowing the knee of the front leg to form a 90° angle while the knee of the back leg moves close to the floor. Your spine should be straight, and you should focus on moving down, not forward. Return to the starting position and repeat.

A magical place where tranquillity and beauty meet aptly describes the new home of one of

Pretoria’s most loved patisseries. Mydarlings Patisserie’s new venue

in Brooklyn boasts a spacious garden with magnificent trees and ample shade; the only sound is the chirping of birds in a nearby treetop. Bliss!

We can see why pastry chef Myda van Greunen recently relocated to this new haven.

This is the ideal place if you’re looking for a quick escape from all the city madness (while you’re still in the heart of the city, of course).

Think indulging in a slice of delicious cake and a cup of freshly brewed coffee while catching up with the girlfriends.

Boasting a new menu with all the old favourites, as well as new creations such as Guinness chocolate cake, lemon chiffon cake with coconut flakes and a delicious biltong and fig quiche, there’s scrumptious treats for every palate at Mydarlings.

“We want to create a classic, timeless atmosphere where people can enjoy our cake and cupcake creations as well as other delicacies and delights,” says Myda.

2Huangguoshu Waterfall, China

Imagine embracing your loved one while watching water cascading down in front of you and the delicate colours of its rainbows dancing in the air. This is the view from the cave known as Shui Lian Dong behind the Huangguoshu Waterfall in Anshun, China. This stunning destination consists of more than ten aboveground and underground falls with various viewing spots like Xiniu Pond and Little Moon Stage – a must-see for romantics.

3Bruges, BelgiumMarvel at the old-world

charm of cobblestone paths and ancient architecture in the town of Bruges, Belgium. In spring there is an air of magical whimsy as bright yellow daffodils carpet the Begijnhof, and in winter it becomes a white wonderland, with snow blanketing the tops of buildings and frost creeping into the canals.

5Cinque Terre, Italian Riviera

Nestled between the sea and the mountains, the five picturesque villages of Cinque Terre have an authentic Mediterranean feel and an enchanting air of secluded romance and history. Beautiful coastlines, age-old architecture and intimate eateries make this a hidden gem of Italian beauty.

6Tupai Island, French Polynesia

For starry-eyed travellers looking for a little romance, head to the unique, heart-shaped island of Tupai in the French Polynesia. This tropical paradise is a top wedding destination, with many a couple saying ‘I do’ under the coconut trees while looking out over stunning cerulean waters and golden beaches.

8Lofoten Islands, NorwayGo stargazing with your beloved and watch the bright lights of the Aurora

Borealis in this incredible, icy landscape. September through March offers the best chance of seeing the dancing lights. Pale green and pink are most often seen, but shades of red, yellow, green, blue, and violet have also been reported. Lofoten’s tiny fishing villages offer a cosy setting away from the bright lights of the city, perfect for a romantic night of stargazing.

7Hirosaki Park, JapanKiss your beloved under the

pretty, pink petals of the cherry blossom trees in Japan’s Hirosaki Park. From March to May, the trees are decked in the delicate flowers, and couples can row down the petal-filled moat overlooking Hirosaki Castle or amble along under magical tunnels of pale pink as the flower-laden branches close over their heads.

1 The Love Tunnel, Ukraine

This beautiful, leafy green tunnel near the town of Klevan is the ideal spot for a lovers’ stroll. Found deep in the forests of the Ukraine, it’s actually a railway track that takes visitors to a local wood factory, and was formed through years of the natural vegetation moulding itself around the route of the train. Rumour has it that couples who walk through the tunnel hand-in-hand and make a wish will have their wish come true.

4Petra tou Romiou rock, Cyprus

As the birthplace of Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, pleasure and procreation, it’s not hard to see why this is one of the most romantic spots in the world. Legend has it that anyone who swims around the goddess’ rock will be blessed with eternal beauty. Beautiful scenery and turquoise waters make this a lovers’ paradise.
