The Great Escape

It was a hot sunny day in the middle colonies. Eliza and her

Mother were making stew for lunch while her father was picking corn

from the great harvest they had that year. It was Eliza’s job to put the

new brought in vegetables in the stew. When her Father came in Eliza

put the corn into the stew. As soon as the stew was finished cooking

Eliza and her family sat down at the table and ate it. They really en-

joyed it!

When Eliza and her family were eating lunch, Eliza’s Mother brought

up a conversation about church. Her Mother said, “ Is everyone excit-

ed for church tomorrow?” Eliza’s Father said, “yes!” Then, Eliza’s

Mother asked Eliza if she was excited for church. Then, Eliza yelled

out loud, “ I HATE CHURCH!” Eliza’s parents were very surprised but,

they, said that she had to go to church no matter what. Eliza ran

straight up to her room and went straight to bed for the night. The

next morning when Eliza’s Mother came to wake her up for church

she was gone! Eliza ran away to an unknown forest and now she was

lost!

Eliza was frightened. She has never been to a forest like this before.

Then, all of the sudden she heard a ROAR! Eliza thought it was just her

mind going crazy but, then, she saw a bears shadow coming closer and

closer to her so, she ran and was hid in a hole in a tree. She felt like cry-

ing but, she tried not to so the bear wouldn't see or hear her. Eliza had

no clue where home was and she was wondering if she would ever get

out of the forest!

All of the sudden Eliza saw a figure getting closer and closer to her. At

first she thought is was the bear but, then, the figure said, “ Eliza is that

you?” Eliza was scared because she didn’t know what or who the figure

was. As the figure got closer to her she seemed to recognize the face.

The figure was the preacher. Eliza asked, “ Why did you come and look

for me?” The preacher replied, “Because I love you.”

Eliza and the pastor decided to go home. When they got back after a long

walk home Eliza’s parents were crying and hugging Eliza because they

were so scared and didn’t know if Eliza would survive. Then , they saw

the preacher and Eliza parents hugged him too and said “Thank you for

saving my daughter.” The preacher replied “Your welcome.”

Since, Eliza survived she went to church twice a week. She loved going to

church because of what the preacher did for her and she now enjoyed it

more than ever! Eliza now wanted to go to church everyday! She was

happy to be home.
