PsyKo
Director: Varshini Yogaeswaran
Content OutlineThis story is based on real
life events and YouTube pranks that I came across during my research. A boy named DAMON decides to terrorise the people within their neighbourhood and especially his bullies. One
wintery night he came across one of his bullies
and got carried away with the prank that resulted in
him accidently stabbing the bully. This is where the
‘PsyKo’ comes in him and changes his character. Instead of helping the
victim he decides to loot the body and destroy the
evidence. Will this carry on or would there be a for his
‘PsyKo’???
Through this proposal I will be expressing and informing the essential elements that I would include and require. These elements
are:• Target Audience• Resources• Personnel Requirements; Team, Cast &
Crew, Specialists, Product Schedule and Budget.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Horror and Thriller are mainly preferred by teens and adults, but if I had to be precise the film would be mainly aimed toward ages between 16-45. The reason why I have chosen this
particular age group is because the are easily compelled towards horror and thriller based movies and will be willing to try anything new. Allowing me to play with different ideas and
alter the conventions.
RESOURCES
EQUIPMENT: Camera; Canon Legria HF R28, Audio; Tascam DR-
40 Linear, Tripod; Tribec T650, Editing Software; AVID.
PROPS: Knife, Rod, Electric Hedge Trimmer, Axe, Acid (Water), Rope, Camera.
COSTUME: Clown Costume
I would be using the school’s equipment for my short film, as I don’t have the budget to buy any equipment’s. This is good in a way as I don’t have to spend any excess money
but it would also mean that I would have to adjust with the
quality that is available.
Personnel Requirements I am filming a low budget short film, meaning that the number of members in my crew is
constrained.Cast & Crew:- Director: Writer and Producer.- Director of Photography.- Make Up/ Hair Artist.- Special Effects Crew.- Sound Recordists.
I would require a team that would help with the production which is vital when making a film
- Transport; in order to get my cast and crew to the location and prevent from any delay taking place and any change of schedule.
- Production assistant; The runner and responsible of the cast and crew. They really make a difference when making a film as they take care of all the small details we may miss or
forget about.
SPECIALISTSThe key specialists that I would mainly require for my short film are Director of Photography, Sound Recordists, and Make-Up/Hair artist. When making a horror film you would acquire good shots and
specific shots in order to create that special atmosphere within the audience in the cinema; this would be the DoP’s priority. Sound recordists has the job to bring the movie to life and to create that realistic quality that I am looking for. It is extremely complex when composing a piece of music, especially for a horror/thriller based movie as you haven’t got the privilege to explore different tunes. It has to be scary but unique; which is quite tricky because majority of the scary tunes in horror & thriller share the basic
notes. In order to produce a good quality film you would always need a decent make-up/hair artist and for a horror based movie it is a necessity to hire a good quality producing make-up/hair artist. It is essential
that the appearance fits the character, or else the realistic touch would not be there; resulting in producing a bad quality film.

Production Schedule
28/04/2016: The first day of shooting, is to ensure that everything is running smoothly; from lines to
transportation. I will try my best to get all the tricky shots done in one day, only if every thing falls into
plan.
29/04/2016: Continue filming
30/04/2016: After finish shooting I will look through all the scenes shot and evaluate whether the shots are good enough and projects my vision. Allowing me to
use the remaining time for any re-shoots.
Legal and Ethical Issues
In this film I wouldn’t have to worry about getting authority to use a specific location as I would be filming in public parks, and woods.
Typically, you would have to worry about locations because in some cases you could find the perfect location for your film but can’t the permission to film there as it is a private land. Personally, I feel that
when directing a horror or thriller based movie it tends to be quite easy to find a location. As most scenes are shot either in an abandoned
property, woods, parks etc. In that way I feel lucky as I already know I’ve got my locations planned out.
I will ensure that the public are not being disturbed from our filming and
that the location is thoroughly searched as safety is my first priority. The
health and safety of my cast & crew is vital and if anything happens to them
then I will take the full responsibility to make sure that they get everything
they need and require.
COPYRIGHT
I am making sure that the background theme music of my short film doesn’t sound similar to other horror/thriller films. This could create a huge problem and can potentially delay the making of my film. Like I previously
stated, most horror and thriller share this problem. It’s something that frequently happens and I am going to avoid this by not going along with the traditional horror music and with something that is different and unique to
horror and thriller theme music convention.
