MEET JACK! Pumpkinferno’s iconic Jack stands tall in a fiery fashion to greet you upon your arrival to Upper Canada Village, keeping an eye on each visitor’s approach. His familiar face will appear again and again throughout the Village to guide you on your tour. PARTNER APPRECIATION Pumpkinferno is made possible in part with the support of many partners from within our neighbouring communities and at a provincial level. Our artists pay tribute to these partners with custom-carved logo pumpkins for your viewing pleasure! WAR OF 1812 Like the Crysler’s Farm Battlefield Memorial located next door to Upper Canada Village, this soldier was created in dedication to the memory of the stirring victory of Joseph Wanton Morrison’s Anglo-Canadian army on November 11, 1813. UPPER CANADA VILLAGE PEOPLE Recognize any of these familiar faces? Say hello to the Village baker, spinner, blacksmith, teacher, and cheese maker! The artisans represented here, along with countless others, are Making History daily from May through September at Upper Canada Village each year! FUR TRADE The fur trade played a major role in the formation of Canada. It gave rise to exploration and settlement, and helped to finance missionary work. It also formed social, economic and colonial relationships between Europeans and Indigenous people, as represented here. LEGENDS FROM OUR LANDS Legends are told to children to instill morals and principles to follow as they grow into themselves. Our Pumpkinferno artists have worked with Akwesasne artist Victoria Ransom to depict a number of legends from our lands, including “Three Sisters”, “Flying Head”, “Celestial Tree” and “Atotarho”. PATRIOTIC PASTIMES Do you know the “Hockey Sweater” story, centred around a devout fan of the Montreal Canadian’s star player Maurice Richard? Take a moment to reflect upon your own memories made playing some of our nation’s most iconic sports. Grab your skates, and we’ll see you at the pond! MESOZOIC MONSTERS Can you hear those roars? Could it be dinosaurs? Don’t be afraid, these life-size recreations of prehistoric reptiles won’t bite! Come meet the Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus, Triceratops, and Velociraptors. THE GREAT WHITE NORTH No need to bundle up to enjoy this beautifully depicted gathering of polar bears, dog sledding huskies, inukshuk and yes, snowflakes... all magnificently carved from white pumpkins to create a one-of-a-kind borealis-like arctic setting. PSYCHEDELIC SIXTIES Far out man! We’re stoked about our NEW sound & light musical pumpkin display, this year inspired by the 1960s! It’s outta sight and trippy, so embrace your inner hippie, and get in the groove at this psychedelic rock extravaganza! EXPRESSION PROGRESSION Enjoyed the sixties? In the mood for another mind-altering experience? These emotional Jacks don’t try to mask how they’re feeling, and take you through an entire spectrum of mood swings as you peruse their ever-changing facial expressions. CREATURES OF THE CURRENT Wander through the ocean blue in this underwater-themed debut! No snorkels, scuba diving gear or shark cages required! How many salt water creatures you can correctly identify as you explore this wondrous world beneath the sea? COINS OF THE WORLD Paying tribute to the diverse groups of visitors that attend Upper Canada Village throughout the year, it made perfect “cents” to create a meticulously carved pumpkin display featuring various coins found around the world. TIMBER TRAIL Nature lovers and arborists alike will marvel at our stunning pumpkin-carved collection of deciduous and coniferous trees ... come look upon the meadow where our Canadian trees proudly stand their ground at this year’s event! NIGHT AT THE GALLERY Our Pumpkinferno artists reassert their creative abilities in this astounding display of recreated works of art: stroll the grounds of Upper Canada Village’s Crysler Hall to see famous paintings by some of the greatest painters in history. CYCLE THROUGH TIME Get on your bikes and ride! Take a look at how bicycles have changed over time. Did you know the first bike had no pedals or steering mechanism? Cyclists used their feet to push the bicycle along and leaned to either side in order to control their direction. OUTSTANDING OWLS Owls are nocturnal birds of prey who come with no shortage of superstitions, both good and bad. Usually silent, and hidden by shadows, our artists have chosen to depict these feathered creatures of the night in a very “good” light. JACK IN THE BOX LANE Sometimes our emotions can catch us off guard and seem to pop out of nowhere. Our Pumpkinferno artists have cleverly expressed this notion through a series of jack-in-the- boxes, each with its own set of feelings... can you relate to any? PUMPKIN PARK Smiling jack faces greet you as you enter this interactive zone… welcoming you to the delights that wait inside! This double- sided archway has been created with over 500 pumpkins. Here’s your chance to show us your own creative skills on our Pumpkindoodle chalkboard and Pumpkindoodle whiteboard! Remember, your art is erasable, so you might want to snap a pic before the next artist comes along. Ever wonder how many Pumpkins Tall you were? It all depends on how you measure up (or which pumpkins you measure up against)! Better yet, get in the picture and capture yourself in some Pumpkin Perfect Portraits in one of our Pumpkinferno-themed photo ops! Grab a Halloween prop and strike a pose behind the Shadow Scream! Be sure to snap a photo and post it to your social media account with the hashtag #PUMPKINFERNO. Bring out the competitor in you with the Pumpkin Toss game . Grab a pumpkin and challenge a friend! Who can reach 20 points first? Put your endurance to the test on the Pumpkin Tower while saving the planet with pedal power! Are you pumped? Give it a go! Explore the aisles of our Painted Pumpkin Art Gallery , a whimsical display of hundreds of individually painted pumpkins, created by area school children between Kindergarten and Grade 8. CAFE INFERNO + WIFI ZONE Come sit for a spell at CAFE-INFERNO, a giant “pumpkin shell-ter” featuring Eerie Entrees, Bewitching Beverages and Deadly Desserts! Connect with us on social media using the hashtag #PUMPKINFERNO in our Wifi zone. Post your Photo Ops, Pumpkin Doodles, and Shadow Scream pictures to Facebook, Instagram and Twitter! DAY OF THE DEAD Bask in the beauty of this whimsical wedding celebration adorned in colourful flowers, dancers, and intricately carved renditions of the sugar skull, a popular motif of the Mexican holiday “Dia de los Muertos” (Day of the Dead). STEAMPUNK STATION Don’t be late! The train leaves tonight to an alternate historical era known as Steampunk, where you are transported to a fictional and futuristic Victorian age of steam-powered technology and vintage fashion with a contemporary, cheeky twist. PUMPKIN PLANETARIUM Stargazing takes on a whole new light in this mesmerizing microcosm of our solar system. Looks like our astronaut has returned home from his interstellar journey this year aboard a BRAND NEW spaceship with a luminous “orange” glow!
