As a fellow parent I know all too well that sometimes plugging through those cold winter months can be a chore, especially with colds and coughs doing the rounds. I certainly appreciate the commitment of our dance mums and dads staying on track and getting dancers to class on those hard days! As the term has progressed we have ticked off some major milestones including our scholarships and both Cecchetti & ATOD examinations. It is so incredible to see the growth in our students as we reach this point in the year, all the PSD staff feel a great deal of pride in our students. We are now gearing up for showtime, the sun is shining and the students are super- duper excited to be commencing work on choreography and trying on those all-important costumes. I ask that you take the time to read the newsletter and associated concert notices and take careful note of times and dates. Remember putting on a show is a team effort! Being part of a performance requires consistent attendance and commitment to rehearsals. The reward is not just a fabulous show for our audience but a wonderful, magical experience for our students. Term 3 is exam season at PSD. This year we have had children participate in Cecchetti ballet, ATOD Tap, Hip Hop and Contemporary exams. On each occasion students presented themselves beautifully and it is an absolute pleasure to witness the camaraderie, support and genuine friendships that have developed among our students.

“Of all the things you wear, your expression is the most important”-Janet Lane-

I often get asked why we do exams, especially by parents new to the school. Children can progress through our school without doing them, so some parents will question the need. Sometimes exams are not the right thing for a child, for a variety of reasons including confidence, technical ability, physical and emotional maturity. BUT our recent sessions were testament as to why they can be such a great tool for students & teachers.

We had a number of student’s complete exams that, for various reasons, just blew the teaching staff away. These students have developed confidence and overcome various hurdles to get to a point where they were able to independently demonstrate exam work with competence & a smile on their face. Well done all!

Jason Coleman VisitTerm 3 has seen a constant stream of visitors to PSD. We love opening the doors of our beautiful studios to offer our students the opportunity to experience classes and workshops with some of the most talented and leading dance professionals in Australia.

We kicked off term 3 with a visit from Rosebud born and bred Mr Jason Coleman. In case you missed the post on this one, Jason learnt from our school’s founder Miss Sandra Allan as a young boy before heading off to the world stage. Jason has a strong affinity with our school’s heritage and it goes without saying that he always has a place at the barre in our studios.

Jason visited our studios to assist in presenting our 2014/15 scholarships alsongside his longtime friend and our adjudicator Miss Shelley Gadsby.

Jason enthralled and inspired our students and parents with his speech. He also kindly donated 2 scholarships for senior students to his Summer School program at JCs Ministry of Dance valued at $550 each. We we are beyond grateful for his genuine interest and support of our school. You can learn more about JC’s Ministry of Dance here: https://www.facebook.com/jcministryofdance

What an inspiration! Thanks Jason, your time, enthusiasm and passion was such an inspiration.

I presented Jason with a pair of friendship birds, one is already sitting in our studio, the other will be heading up to Ministry of Dance.

Paul Malek VisitOn the 24th August Mr Paul Malek conducted 2 workshops for our students. Paul’s CV is long but his most notable credits include Choreographer for SYTYCD Australia & Collaboration The Project. Host of the popular online TV series Dance Chat, with Yvette Lee.

Our juniors experienced an hour & half of side splitting fun, creativity & joy. Our seniors were taken on a journey & series of lessons on emotion, technique, self worth, humour and performance all in one class - what a gift! We will definitely be looking to book Paul again next year!!

During the school holidays 4 members of the PSD teaching team jetted to Sydney to attend the Annual Cecchetti Ballet Teachers conference. It was a stunning few days kicked off with the joy of seeing our former student Eden Kew perform as a finalist in the National Cecchetti Ballet Medal Awards.

The conference was a feast of performances and presentations and we left feeling energised and re-charged for another term of teaching at PSD.

Winter School has become a much anticipated annual event at the school. Students have the opportunity

to be exposed to various dance styles and work alongside older & younger students. The camaraderie

within the student group across the two days is just lovely to witness.

We were thrilled to welcome home Prue Slingsby who took contemporary classes & Bridgette Blake who

assisted in the classical classes. Both girls are currently studying full time pursing their dance dreams and

it was a treat for the students to see them work and be inspired by their love of dance. All in all a hugely

successful 2 days with kids learning new skills, working in teams and creating beautiful lifelong memories

& friendships.

Lachlan Phillips VisitFor the 3rd year running we have welcomed Lachlan Mitchell Phillips, currently on contract with the Polish National Ballet Company, to our studios for classes. It has become an annual event!! The students always thoroughly enjoy his classes and we look forward to continuing to follow his journey across the world stage.

Our D-Step dance crew have been busy rehearsing and recently

performed as part of a fundraising event for Support for Mums – a

charity that raises funds for Mums in crisis.

The girls did a super job performing for guests as they arrived.

The 80s theme was a huge hit and the crew enjoyed exploring

the origins of Hip Hop in the rehearsals leading up to the event.

The event raised $3880! Well done D-Step and a huge thanks to

Miss Carla for her role in leading the crew
