It places a hefty focus on the high life that individuals may lead through the consumption of luxurious goods and services, proffered by the materialistic world that we live in today. An array of products and services such as expensive watches, designer handbags, up-to-date electronic devices, fine dining, and etc. are illustrated within our poster, engendering a lavish and expensive impression on viewers. 3.0 Video Clip Overview and Correlation with Poster Design Theme Our video clip is a brief portrayal of materialism within the lives of a university freshman Alice and her two friends, Heather and Daisy whose excessive spending habits and consumption are the pivotal focus of the entire story. On opposite poles is Alice’s mother, a single parent trying to make ends meet by taking on multiple jobs to cover Alice’s tuition fee. Alice’s gradual ignorance of her mother’s struggles in bringing the family income impels her to take on after her friends’ lifestyles, be concerned with the affairs of money and possessions instead of the relationship she has with her mother, and disregards her mother’s proposal on taking up a part-time job at a newly opened female departmental store, ultimately leading to a number of heated arguments. In her attempts to make well the mother-daughter relationship, Alice’s mother leaves an apology note and her monthly earnings for Alice’s semester fee payment. Alice evidently has other plans for the fee payment and settles for a designer handbag at the coincidentally similar departmental store her mother mentioned earlier. Our clip reaches its climax when Alice hands over the money at the checkout counter only to realize that the cashier was her own mother. Our video then ends with a tagline: Damaged relationships. You don’t have to pay the 'high price' of materialism. The process in selecting the topic for our video clip required us to brainstorm over different social issues that we deemed as relevant in our society today.
