FOOTY COLOURS DAY

There was a plethora of colours at school last Friday as staff and

students stepped up by being brave enough to wear their favourite

footy colours to support Children with Cancer. A generous effort from

donations saw a fantastic amount of $100 raised.

The playground was filled with a large influx of local Grasshoppers,

Eels, a Titan, a Cowboy or two, a few mighty NSW Blues, Rabbits

galore and Raiders and a couple of brave Queenslanders managed

to turn up and of course a pack of deadly Bulldogs running about.

Surprisingly even a lost Springbok and Swan found their way to our fun

Footy Friday day as well as a retro Magpie. It was a super way for our

school to show our school spirit, favourite footy colours and help

BEGINNING OUR ORIENTATION PROGRAM

On Wednesday, 2019 Preschool children were very busy supporting next year’s preschool students in

our first step in our orientation plan. The Community Preschool came to visit and explore our

environment. The current preschool students supported our visitors by showing them how to feed the

animals, showing them what is available in the shed, setting up the digging patch with trucks and

excavators and showing them how to use the monkey bars and playing on the equipment safely. We

are looking forward to next weeks visit when we share our inside environment.

TEDDY BEAR’S PICNIC

We continued to form relationships with the students from Community Preschool by joining in at the

Mungindi Community Library to play Little Bear Picnic games and participate in craft activities.

LOST PROPERTY

On Thursday 4 July, 2019 a set of car keys were lost / misplaced somewhere on

the school grounds. If these keys have been found, please return them to the

Administration Office as soon as possible. There will be a reward for the return of

the keys.

PRIMARY ART

The year 3/4/5/6 Primary class has been learning

how to create a lovely artwork. The students used

paper collage and cut out animal designs to

achieve the result in the photo. The artworks are

being displayed in the Administration Office until the

end of term.

AECG CAMP AT LAKE KEEPIT

Ms Barker and I had the privilege of accompanying four of Mungindi Central School’s students to an

AECG (Aboriginal Educational & Consultative Group Inc) camp at Lake Keepit Sport and Recreation

Centre. We left school Monday morning, arriving at our destination in the afternoon after a few stops

for refreshments and shopping. After a lovely dinner we all had an early lights out, getting a good

night’s rest for the next day’s activities.

Students were grouped together and participated in all activities as a team. Our

students were in the green group and they started off with a Health and Wellbeing

info session. Heart rates, reaction skills, grip strength, balancing ability and free from

bacteria hands were tested, looked at and monitored. During the next session on

Oral Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing they learned about maintaining a good diet,

the effect sugar has on your teeth and

general wellbeing. The students learned how

to read and convert the sugar content in

products. We were all amazed at the

quantity of sugar we consume when drinking

these drinks, even those which are supposed

to be ‘healthy’. The following session was

Media. The students participated in activities helping them to be effective

communicators, being confident and asking pertinent and appropriate questions.

The students wrote down things that make them happy and excited. Their dreams

and what they would like to do or become later in life were also jotted down. A few

interviews were held practising their communication skills. The last session for the

the day was with the Sydney Sixers. The students’ cricket playing skills were addressed and improved

while having a lot of fun. All students had two hours free time before dinner and the friendships which

were formed earlier in the day were further strengthened.

After a lovely dinner our Night Activities included being

entertained by Loren Ryan (country singer from Tamworth

who participated in The Voice) singing beautiful original

songs in Language and other songs. Tom Barker, Ms

Barker’s cousin, shared interesting stories told to the family

over many years by his grandfather and great

grandfather. He had many examples of equipment, tools

and weapons used by the Aboriginal people made of wood, many of them by himself.

Wednesday was Cricket Gala time and over the course of three hours, eight different teams

competed against each other and good sportsmanship and participation were evident. We are

proud of our two students, Marley and Blade who made sure their team came out as the champions.

Well done gentlemen, you did well!! Keely and Laney managed to hit a few good balls, made more

runs and had fun at bowling. Good sportsmanship ladies!!

Our students formed friendships with Walgett High School students and

had great time sharing meals, chit chatting, competing in activities and

playing footy.

Well, after another lovely lunch, goodbyes and friendship hugs were

exchanged and we started our journey home. We all had a marvellous

time and what a privilege it was for all to have been invited to such a

worthwhile sporting and cultural experience.
