To ensure that students gain the right level
of skills and knowledge for their studies,
we provide many opportunities for them
to go on educational visits as well as
staying overnight and gaining experience
of being independent. These opportunities
are open and accessible to all, catering for
individual needs and demonstrating our
commitment to equal opportunities.
In the first term in Year 7 at High Tunstall,
students are given the opportunity to go on
an Outward Bound weekend at Kingswood.
This helps students to bond as a year group,
to make new friends and to learn about
teamwork and independent learning at the
start of their secondary school career.
As students progress through the college,
other opportunities are provided by faculties
to enhance their subject knowledge in order to
attain the highest grades. The Modern Foreign
Languages faculty take students to Paris,
Cologne, Bruges, Huckelhoven and Spain. In
the World Affairs faculty, Geography students
take part in field trips to the Lake District and
visits to Italy. History students take part in
visits to World War One Battle fields in Europe.
The Sport Science faculty takes students to
the Lake District to do outdoor activities
to enhance GCSE grades and all students
have the opportunity to go skiing in North
America, as well as opportunities to
complete the Duke of Edinburgh award.
The Discovery, Technology and Creativity
Faculties organise visits to local
colleges, universities and theatres and
Business studies students visit local
retailers, hotels and companies.
High Tunstall’s Desire to Aspire programme
has seen students visit some of the top
Universities in the country; Oxford, Cambridge,
Durham, Kings College London including
week long taster sessions during holidays.
As part of this programme, we visit large
organisations such as Microsoft and Nissan
to show students where good qualifications
can lead them in the future. Visits are made
to local employers so that students can
gain an insight to apprenticeships and the
world of work. We also have regular visits
to and presentations from our local post-
16 providers to give our students an idea
of the education and training opportunities
available to them when they leave us.

High Tunstall sets up students with the skills and experience needed to cope with the demands of a complex, fast changing modern society. Students have the opportunities to experience cutting edge science and technology which helps with attitudes towards learning and broaden their horizons and encourage aspirations.
Through our Desire to Aspire programmes students work with Durham and Teesside Universities science and technology departments which allows them to work and study with technology that is used in the work place and actual working science labs. We also offer an extensive STEM enrichment programme which is accessible to all students. It has been designed in partnership with NEF: The Innovation Institute. The NEF is a professional body and leading provider of SciTech innovation and growth services to businesses, education and government. Our STEM programme is all part of our thrust to opening minds for life beyond school providing the essential skills needed to excel in higher education or apprenticeships and ultimately the workplace.
High Tunstall has invested heavily in technology in the past few years. Students are able to access technology in all subjects using laptops, ipads as well as PC’s which enables them to gain more skills no matter whether they are in a technology lesson or another subject. In Design and Technology students use laser cutters to enhance their products, in Music students can access music technology.Students follow different Science courses at GCSE but for students who are wishing to study science subjects to A level and beyond they will be able to do triple science which will give them the depth of knowledge they will need for future courses and careers involving science subjects.
Pledge 10HIGH TUNSTALL AIMS TO PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH THE SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE NEEDED TO COPE WITH THE DEMANDS OF A COMPLEX, FAST CHANGING MODERN SOCIETY.
I WILL HAVE EXPERIENCED CUTTING-EDGE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TEACHING IS IMPROVING STRONGLYOfsted 2014
Welcome to High Tunstall College of Science, an educational establishment that puts the needs of the individual absolutely at the forefront of everything it does. I have been privileged in being the Headteacher of the College for the past 5 years and the improvement that you see is down to the hard work of the staff, students and parents of the College. We will not settle for second best!At the heart of our ethos is the belief that it is our duty to inspire and support students, so that they achieve the very best that they can. This ambition has led to a dramatic improvement in the quality of teaching and learning across the college over the past 2 years. As a student you have the right to be taught by teachers that are good and outstanding. The results of good teaching can be seen in all aspects of school life and therefore our attendance, achievement and behaviour have all improved. Our most up to date examination and sporting successes are all in the back of this prospectus.
Inspirational teaching is matched by the range of extra-curricular opportunities that are available for our students. These opportunities range from trips to New York,
Germany and Italy to Top of the Bench Chemistry visits at the University of Teesside, Visits to Microsoft and Chelsea FC and many others, all that can be seen in our expressions magazine. Our support goes beyond the curriculum and encompasses a wide range of systems and networks to help students navigate their way through college and adolescence. The “Tunstall Ticket” has been designed specifically to tell you our expectations of the opportunities we will provide you in the 5 years you spend with us. These promises highlight the care, guidance and support we provide for all our students.
Inspiring teaching and opportunities can only be effective when placed within the context of a supportive curriculum and we pride ourselves on the breadth, challenge and quality of our offer. We offer a wide range of qualifications that prepare students for life post 16 whether they intend to follow an academic or vocational route. The High Tunstall community is based upon the principle that as a group of individuals we inspire each other and support each other, so that we all achieve.
This principle underpins daily routines and practice, which has led to a community that is mutually respectful, offering an equal balance of support and challenge that leads to success for all. We have provided for you a copy of our parent planner so parents can see the support they will receive from us is equal to what the student receives. I hope that you will choose to join us in 2016, come along and visit. Mr M TillingHeadteacher

We have worked with AlphaGraphics now for a couple of years with regards to our printing and presentation needs and cannot speak highly enough about the service we receive. As well as meeting our needs they put forward ideas on how products can be improved.
They produce our twice a year college magazine along with the college prospectus and parent booklet which informs all current parents the standards we require in college, all teaching and learning that is to happen along with a calendar of all major events.
The quality of the publications and other ideas such as the personalised student packs have helped raise the profile of the College within our local community and assisted in helping raise the number of students wanting High Tunstall as their first choice when picking which school to attend.

The British flag is the Union Flag. It is also known as the Union
Jack, because of the use of the Union Flag on the Jack-staff of
naval vessels.
The flag of England is the banner of St George - the red cross
of a martyr on a white background.
The national flag of Wales is a red dragon on a field of white
and green, the Principality’s traditional colours. It originates
from Merlin’s vision of a white dragon killing a red dragon
which rose again, symbolising the failure of Saxons to conquer
Wales.
The Scottish flag is the cross of St.Andrew, also known as the
Saltire. It is one of the oldest national flags of any country,
dating back to the 12th century.

Step 1Students are provided with a unique login to access our secure web portal. They then work through the assigned questions during lessons, and ‘lock’ their profile when all answers are complete.
Step 2Once a profile has been ‘locked’ the student’s mentor/tutor receives a notification straight to their inbox, to check over before finally submitting.
Step 3Upon the mentor/tutor’s submission an email is automatically sent to the student with a link to their online Record of Achievement (PURL) and a downloadable PDF. Both the PURL link and PDF can then be emailed to prospective employers or colleges.
Step 4When all students in the year group have completed their online profiles, high-quality copies are then digitally printed and delivered to the school ready for students to take along to interviews.

SEE WHAT WE RAISED
We are absolutely thrilled with the final product! It is such a HUGE improvement on previous years – AND it was delivered on time! We were so pleased that we were able to give copies out at the open morning on Saturday. So far, we have received nothing but positive feedback about the magazine, which reflects all of the hard work that has gone into it, on both sides. Thanks again for all of your help, and support, and especially Andy’s patience!
