Medium of Instruction and

Examinations

As per the provisions under the Maulana Azad National Urdu

University Act 1996, and the Academic Ordinance (3) framed under

the University Act and notified in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary

Part II, Section 3, Sub Section-ii, dated: 1st January 1998 the Medium

of Instruction is Urdu.

Question papers for all Examinations shall be set and answered in

Urdu Language except for languages & literatures like Hindi,

English, Arabic etc. If a student fails to write answers in Urdu, no

marks shall be awarded.

& The Directorate of Distance Education (DDE)

1. About Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) is a Central University, established in 1998

by an Act of Parliament with all Indian jurisdictions. The headquarters and main campus of the

University is in Hyderabad, spread over 200 acres. MANUU is recognized as a major higher

education service provider across the country through regular and distance mode

programmes in Urdu medium. The Academic activities of the University commenced with

distance education programmes in 1998 and regular programmes in 2004.

The University is named after Maulana Abul Kalam Azad a scholar par excellence, a prolific

writer, an inimitable orator, a great freedom fighter, a visionary of the post-independent Indian

education system and an architect of technical and scientific education in Independent India.

He was also the first Education Minister of Independent India.

Vision

To provide access to quality education through Urdu medium while adhering to the inclusive

policy.

Mission

To empower socially, economically and educationally marginalized sections of the society so

that they are brought into the mainstream, and thereby contribute to the socio-economic

development of the nation through ODL and regular modes of education.

Mandate

The Mandate of the University is:

To promote and develop the Urdu language

To impart education and training in vocational and technical subjects through the medium

of Urdu

To provide wider access to people desirous of pursuing programmes of higher education

and training in Urdu medium through teaching on the campus as well as through distance

mode and

To focus on women’s education

Schools and Departments of the University

In pursuit of its vision and mission, the University has established Seven (7) School of Studies

and 20 Departments of the studies to impart various academic programmes under regular

mode. The University established 02 Satellite Campuses at Lucknow (UP) and Budgam near

Srinagar (J&K). Apart from these Satellite Campuses, 17 Off Campus Institutions are

functioning across India. About 6,000 students are pursuing various programmes in regular

mode.

The Departments are currently offering 79 academic programmes, (25 Ph.D., 21 PG, 10 UG,

03 PG Diploma, 01 Advance Diploma, 06 Diploma, and 02 Certificate programmes) in the

regular mode. The University also offers 06 Technical Diploma Programmes under 05

Polytechnics and 05 Vocational Certificate Programmes under 03 Industrial Training Institutes.

The University has adopted Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). The candidates, interested

2. About Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) Every aspirant of education cannot afford to go to the Universities/Colleges to pursue his/her

goals in education through regular/ campus mode. Distance Mode of Education is a tool for

providing education by taking it to the doorstep of the aspirants. It aims to reach the

unreached. Distance Mode of Education known as Open and Distance Learning (ODL) is more

suitable and apt for those who want to improve their knowledge and qualification by staying at

home or by doing their daily routine/professional work. They need to attend a few classes at

their respective Learner Support Centres (LSCs) opted by them.

The Directorate of Distance Education offers various academic programmes in distance mode

and operates through a network of 9 Regional Centres (RCs) and 5 Sub-Regional Centres

(SRCs) and around 134 Learner Support Centres (LSCs) catering to thousands of students

each year at their doorsteps.

The Instructional Media Centre (IMC), Centre for Information Technology (CIT), Directorate of

Translation and Publications (DTP) and Centre for Internal Quality Assurance (CIQA) support

the Directorate of Distance Education academically and technically to enrich the programmes

under Distance Education. The University’s Instructional Media Centre prepares video

lectures to provide anytime, anywhere learning environment to the learners through its

dedicated IMC YouTube channel accessible at https://www.youtube.com/imcmanuu and

https://www.youtube.com/c/IMCMANUU/videos A large repository of audio-visual educational

programmes has already been prepared by the Media Centre and new lessons are regularly

produced and uploaded. Soft copies of Self Learning Material (SLM) are also being provided

to the learners through University’s website at weblink (http://manuu.edu.in./dde/self-learning-

material).

of the ODL learners, Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) has introduced Choice Based

Credit System (CBCS) for UG & PG programmes. As per UGC-DEB regulations, the

curriculum of various ODL programmes has been revised and synchronized with that of

regular mode. Accordingly, the SLMs are being prepared. Directorate of Distance Education

(DDE) has vigorously started adopting Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in its

academic and administrative functioning. Admissions to all Directorate of Distance Education

(DDE) programmes are now being conducted through on-line mode only. To improve

communication between Directorate of Distance Education (DDE) and learners, SMS facility is

now being extensively used to send alerts to students about various aspects of programme

delivery such as Course Registration, Dispatch of SLMs, Assignments etc.

I. The total fee includes fee towards Assignments, Project and term-end examinations.

II. Total annual fee for the Programme (including registration fee) is to be paid at the time

of submission of Online application.

III. The Candidates shall pay fee separately for Original Degree Certificate at the

completion of the programme.

5.1. Fee Revision University reserves the right to revise the fee structure of any programme during the

programme period. The candidates shall abide by the decisions of the University Authorities

and rules and regulations formulated from time to time.

5.2. Fee Refund Policy

If the student intends to cancel or discontinue the programme of study at any point of time,

she/he may do so. The fee refund policy is as follows:

5.3. Re-registration Fee The University provides candidates who have not completed their programme in the prescribed time a chance to complete their respective programmes. The re-registration details are as mentioned below:

a) For Re-Registration with Self Learning Material (SLM), fee shall be same as given in table (Click here) for all the year/s of which he/she wants to appear in the exam.

b) For Re-Registration without Self Learning Material (SLM), fee shall be reduced as follows:

importance thereby giving a new direction to the field of electronic and print media, which is

creating new opportunities in the field of Journalism and Mass Communication. In the present

scenario, a large number of trained journalists are required in different fields of media. This

6.4.2. Proficiency in Urdu through English

The main objective of this Programme is to acquaint people with Urdu language. The

Programme has been so devised that persons having basic knowledge of reading and writing in

English language will be able to learn Urdu. This Programme will also be helpful to those

associated with institutions like libraries, academies, electronic & print media, archives &

museums etc. It will also open-up avenues for skilled technicians in film, serial, advertising &

marketing industry.

I. Admission Criteria: (a) 10th Class from any recognized board, (b) Knowledge of

English Reading & Writing.

II. Duration of Programme: The duration of the Programme is six months. But the

students, as per their convenience can complete the Programme within a maximum

period of two years.

III. Counselling and Support Services: Study materials will be dispatched to the students

by post on confirmation of admissions. No counselling classes are arranged. However,

the students may contact the Programme Coordinators at Directorate of Distance

Education, Headquarter (Hyderabad) through E-mail at [email protected] or

[email protected] & [email protected] respectively to clarify their doubts.

7. Admission Procedure

Admissions to all Programmes shall be made through Online Mode only. The admission portal

can be accessed at https://manuuadmission.samarth.edu.in Online applications must be

submitted from 08th March, 2022 to 31st March, 2022. Following steps are to be followed for

submitting the Admission Form

I. Register yourself at https://manuuadmission.samarth.edu.in using your Email ID and

mobile number.

II. An OTP will be sent to your Email ID. Please enter OTP in the required field and

complete registration.

III. Login into the admission Portal at https://manuuadmission.samarth.edu.in

IV. Enter personal details as per the format given in the form and upload required

documents. (Enter personal details carefully as they cannot be edited later)

V. Select your programme and choose LSC.

7.1. Procedure for Cancellation of Admission

I. In case of cancellation of admission due to wrong eligibility claim or incomplete

documents or incorrect documents provided by candidate wilfully, full fee shall be

forfeited.

II. Cancellation due to withdrawal of Programme by the University for any reason, full fee

shall be refunded.

III. If admission is cancelled by the university on disciplinary grounds or any other reason,

full fee shall be forfeited.

9. List of Learner Support Centres

The Directorate of Distance Education, MANUU is in the continuous process of entering into

Memorandum of Understanding with various degree colleges/HEIs that satisfy the minimum

eligibility criteria laid down in the UGC ODL Regulations for establishment of LSCs. The list of

LSCs is dynamic and will be regularly updated in the Prospectus as well as on the Admission

Portal.

Candidates may choose from the list of RCs/SRCs-LSCs. However, if a candidate wishes to

change the opted LSC then she/he may write to the Learner Support Centres within a period

of 30 days from the date of admission, which will be forwarded to DDE Headquarters,

Hyderabad for decision and copy to RCs/SRCs. The change of LSCs will be communicated to

COE for information and to CIT for correction on admission portal.

In case of any eventuality, if a candidate wishes to appear in his/her examination at any LSC,

they are supposed to write to the concerned RCs/SRCs where they are required to appear in

examination. The final decision regarding the matter will be on the discretion of RCs/SRCs.

13. General Instructions

1. As per the UGC-DEB (Distance Education Bureau) policy, a candidate enrolled in a

degree Programme under regular mode may pursue a maximum of one

diploma/advance diploma/PG diploma/Certificate Programme from distance mode

simultaneously. Two Programmes under distance mode are not allowed simultaneously.

However, a candidate can pursue two Programmes simultaneously through distance in

the following combinations:

I. One degree and one diploma or PG diploma or Certificate.

II. One PG diploma and One diploma or Certificate

III. One diploma and One certificate

IV. Two PG diplomas

V. Two certificates

2. The university reserves right to withdraw any course/Programme without assigning any

reason whatsoever.

3. While filling the Online Application Form, candidates are required to provide their active

Mobile Numbers and Email IDs so that free flow of communication between Learners

and MANUU can be ensured.

4. While filling the Online Application Form, candidates may choose an LSC of their choice

from the list provided at (Click here)

5. The selection of an LSC at the stage of filling application form shall be provisional

because the University may cancel any LSC due to compelling reasons.

6. If a candidate wishes to change the opted LSC after completing the admission process,

then s/he may write to the Learner Support Services Unit [email protected] within

a period of 10 days from the date of final admission. The candidate may apply for

change of LSC at later stage on payment of Rupees 500/-. No request for change in LSC

will be entertained once the semester examination notification is issued.

7. The University arranges counselling classes for a course/paper when there are a

minimum of 15 students enrolled at the Learner Support Centre for that academic year. If

the number is below 15 for a course/paper in any Learner Support Centre, then

counselling will not be arranged for that course/paper. If there are 15 or more students

enrolled in a particular course/paper at a study centre, but the attendance is below 10 for

three consecutive counselling sessions, the University shall not allow further counselling.

8. Minimum 75% attendance is compulsory in counseling-cum-contact classes. Or as

specified by UGC-DEB

9. For counselling classes, assignments and any other academic purposes, students should

remain in touch with the concerned Coordinators at the Learner Support Centres.

10. No change in the Programme/course will be entertained after submission of Online

Admission Form.
