Urology as a specialty has many aspects. There are many aspects to it ranging from office urology or outpatient care to complex reconstructive procedures. The various subdivisions are classified as Office urology procedures – cystoscopy, biopsy, Shock wave lithotripsy, Urodynamics etc. A need for a dedicated technologist was felt since the wide variety of procedures do not come under the purview of the limited nursing and surgical nursing curriculum. We had been discussing this issue at our urological society’s national forum and based on this need a dedicated curriculum for a technologist was developed. This course was commenced in 2013 at CMC Vellore. This is a two year diploma under the auspices of the CMAI and is suited to develop a technologist who would work side by side with a trained Urologist.
