Rabindra Bharati University, founded on 8th May, 1962 under Rabindra Bharati Act of Govt. of West Bengal, 1961, to mark
the birth centenary of the poet Rabindranath Tagore, is the third university, to come into existence in the city of Kolkata.
As conceived by Dr. Bidhan Chandra Roy, the then Chief Minister of West Bengal, this temple of learning dedicated to the
memory of the poet, has been able to justify to a great extent its existence as a center for promoting, extending and
disseminating of Tagore’s ideas in various branches of Visual Arts, Fine Arts and Human Studies. In the year 2001,
Rabindra Bharati University, had been accredited and given a four-star status by NAAC (National Assessment and
Accreditation Council). The University has been reaccredited with Grade A and 3.10 CGPA Score in February 2016.
Apart from promoting Visual Arts and Fine Arts in higher study and research, this University is also arranging for higher
study and research in Bengali, English and Sanskrit Literature and in disciplines like Economics, History, Political Science,
Education, Library and Information Science, Social Work, Environmental Studies and Mathematics.
The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) is serving as a light house to the learners who are otherwise
deprived of higher education. Centre for Distance and Online Education (previously named as Directorate of Distance
Education) having the status of an Institution of Higher Learning under Rabindra Bharati University started its journey in
the academic session 2002-2003 after obtaining approval from the Higher Education Department Govt. of West Bengal
vide C.O. No. 033-Edu(U)/IU(RB)-09/2002, dated, 2nd July 2002. The courses offered are at present duly recognized by the
UGC, DEB (Distance Education Bureau).
A. PROCEDURES FOR ADMISSION AND ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO POST-GRADUATE ACADEMIC
PROGRAMMES:
1. Admission shall be done by following on-line process centrally through CDOE website (www.rbudde.in) on first-come-
first-served basis. Online applications are invited from the eligible candidates for admission to the following UGC, DEB approved [vide notification no. F. No. 21-81/2020 (DEB-III), dated 05/08/2021] Academic Programmes of Study
offered by the University through distance (ODL) mode in the session 2020- 2021 from 17/08/2021 to16 /09 /2021.
2. Following are the Programmes of Study available for the academic session 2020-2021 as approved by the UGC, DEB.
However, number of academic programmes may vary from time to time as per decision of the University subject to
approval of the UGC, DEB.

Points to Note
All Subjects are offered for Study at the Main Campus (Learner Support Centre Code-99), Rabindra Bhavan,
Salt Lake, Kolkata.
Subjects offered for study at various Learner Support Centres (LSC) are given in the prospectus.
Social Work, Rabindra Sangeet and Vocal Music are offered only at Main Campus, Salt Lake (LSC-99).
Online form fill up for admission will remain open as per notifications that will be available on the website from
time to time.
Admission of the candidate will be confirmed after thorough verification of the original testimonials like Admit
Cards, Marksheets, Grade Cards, Certificates etc. to be produced at the respective Learner Support Centre
(LSC) / Study Centre and subject to fulfillment of eligibility criteria.
Date of verification of the original testimonials will be notified in due course on the University website at
www.rbudde.in. Students are required to complete verification within stipulated date and time failing
which the candidature will stand cancelled.
Admission of candidate shall stand cancelled if he / she fail to produce original Admit Cards, Marksheets,
Grade Cards, Certificates etc. at the time of verification.
Identity card will be issued after confirmation of admission
If found ineligible later on, admission of the candidate will be cancelled.
Procedure of Online Admission and Making Payment
The admission process would be done online centrally through CDOE website (www.rbudde.in) on first -come- first-serve
basis. Candidates seeking admission to the Main Campus at Salt Lake or any of the Learner Support Centres (LSC) under
RBU, CDOE will have to visit the CDOE website www.rbudde.in and follow the steps for online application for admission
and fees payment. Payment of fees can be made only through payment gateway using Debit/Credit Cards or Net Banking.
After submission of application form online, candidate will be required to submit the hard copy of downloaded application
form along with copies of testimonials like Admit Cards, Marksheets, Grade Cards, Certificates etc. and payment receipt
and produce the respective original testimonials for verification at respective Learner Support Centre (LSC). The date of
submission of the hard copy of downloaded application form and verification of the testimonials will be notified in due
course on the University website at www.rbudde.in.
Note: Candidates must use their own Email Id and Mobile Phone number for registration during online admission
process. All further communication, if any, will be sent to the candidates to their registered Email Id and Mobile
Phone number only.

C. Structure of Semester System with CBCS:
The University may also offer the structure of Semester system under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), consisting of
three types of courses viz. Core Course, Compulsory Elective Course and Open Elective Course.
Core Course (CC): This is a set of courses which is considered essential to any suitable educational programme of the
University to develop necessary knowledge, in-depth understanding and ability to apply concerned skills among the
students in a specific discipline. The learning components of the courses should be determined according to the
international and national standards, Vision and Mission of the University as well as according to the common
requirement in context of the society.
Total number of Core Courses is 14 having 3 credits for each course.
Compulsory Elective Course (CEC): This is a pool of specialized courses based on different emerging areas under the
broad domain of the discipline, but beyond the compulsory courses; from which one area of specialization be opted by the
students for nurturing self-development, self-fulfillment and skill development.
Total number of Compulsory Elective Courses is 4 having of 4 credits for each course.

Open Elective Course (OEC): This is a pool of specialized courses having multi-disciplinary character. It may be
related with the mother discipline of study and may be supportive to the discipline of study enabling an exposure to some
other discipline or domain of studies.
Open Elective Courses may be offered to the students of other departments including the students of home department to
choose one Elective Course containing two courses in the Semester IV out of the pool of Open Elective Courses.

D.CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION:
Admission is liable to be cancelled at any stage on the following grounds:
i. A candidate admitted to a programme without verifying and ascertaining his / her eligibility for admission and
later found ineligible at the time of scrutiny of the filled-in admission form and testimonials.
ii. A candidate pursuing degree in another subject in or outside Rabindra Bharati University simultaneously.
iii. A candidate admitted to a post graduate degree programme in the same subject in which he/she has already
acquired a post graduate degree from Rabindra Bharati University or other Institution.
iv. Suppression of facts, furnishing wrong or false information in filled-in Admission Form.
v. Misconduct, Indiscipline and Violation of University Norms, Rules & Regulations.
C. REFUND:
If found ineligible later on, admission will be cancelled and claim for refund of such fees will be considered by
the University after deduction of service charges, as applicable from time to time as per prevailing norms of the
UGC and the University.
D. STUDENT UNIQUE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (SUIN):
Student Unique Identification Number (SUIN) will be assigned to the admitted Students after proper scrutiny of
filled-in admission form and verification of eligibility on the basis of original credentials/testimonials of previous
examinations. SUIN must be mentioned in all communications addressed to the CDOE

E. MODE OF LEARNING:
Study Material
i. Students can down load their SLMs from the website of the RBU, CDOE after confirmation of admission.
ii. On line SLMs are also available on the RBU, CDOE website at www.rbudde.in.
Personal Contact Programme (PCP)
i. PCPs will be organized at respective Learner Support Centres (LSCs) to provide the students an opportunity
of interaction with resource persons in the subject concerned who will provide counseling and advice. The
PCP in theoretical paper will be organized in phases. On each day of PCP there may be 4 to 5 classes, each of
one hour duration. Schedule for PCP will be notified on the RBU, CDOE website at www.rbudde.in.
ii. PCP for Practical courses will be conducted in the University or University-designated Laboratories.
Students Response Sheets (SRS) / Internal Assessment (IA)
i. Each module will contain a set of questions to be answered through the Students Response Sheet (SRS). The
students are expected to use the reading list at the end of each Module while answering the questions of the
SRS.
ii. The SRS shall be evaluated as Internal Assessment (IA) by the respective Learner Support Centres (LSC) /
Study Centres. However, in the case of practical based subjects, mode of Internal Assessment (IA) may be
decided by the University authority from time to time.
iii. The Students are required to strictly follow the instructions that will be provided to them at the beginning of
the academic sessions or in course of the PCPs as the University deems fit. The number and nature of the
Internal Assessments will be determined by the credit value of each course.
iv. The Students must complete and submit the SRS for the purpose of their Internal Assessment (I.A.)
within the stipulated dates as will be notified by the Directorate from time to time on the website of the CDOE, RBU.
v. Completion of Internal Assessment (I.A.) is mandatory to be eligible for appearing at the Semester
End Examination.
F. GENERAL PRINCIPLES OF EXAMINATIONS UNDER ANNUAL AND SEMESTER
SYSTEM
i. Registration with Enrollment or only Enrollment for already registered candidates (as the case may be), in the
1st semester (as the case may be) of each academic programme is mandatory to become eligible for
examination. Provided further that, SUIN (Student Unique Identification Number) will be assigned to every
student on confirmation of admission after proper scrutiny of filled-in admission form and verification of
eligibility criteria on the basis of original credentials/testimonials of previous examinations.
ii. The admission of the candidate failing to satisfy the provisions laid down above at clause ‘G. (i)’ in the 1st
semester (as the case may be) shall be treated as cancelled. Such candidate, if willing to pursue the said academic programme, will have to take admission afresh in the subsequent admission session.
iii. A candidate will have to complete the process of registration prior to the date of Enrollment which may be
notified by the Director, Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) of the University from time to
time keeping consonance with the Academic Calendar of the University for any particular academic session.
iv. A candidate will have to complete (to pass all the courses) the PG academic programme within the time span
of N+2 years, where N stands for the normal or minimum duration prescribed for completion of the
programme i.e. 2 years, otherwise will lead to cancellation of studentship at any stage of the Academic
Programme.

G. Submission of Migration Certificate:
Migration certificate is not mandatory to take admission in any Programme under, Rabindra Bharati
University, CDOE, but it is to be noted that any learner cannot take admission in the same session for more
than one programme under UGC affiliated University. If any learner takes admission and completed his/her
degree for more than one programme in the same session, both the degree may be cancelled and in that case,
University is not responsible.
I. APPEARANCE AT EXAMINATIONS: POST-GRADUATE (MASTER’S DEGREE) ACADEMIC
PROGRAMMES
i. In the semester system of 2-year post-graduate academic programmes (Master’s Degree), examinations will be
held in four parts – (i) The First and the Second Semester for the first year students and (ii) The Third and the
Fourth Semester for the second year students
ii. Only those candidates who will fulfill all requirements mentioned at clause ‘G (i)’ above and have
submitted their Students Response Sheet (SRS) within stipulated time for the purpose of their Internal
Assessment (IA) shall be eligible for appearing at the end semester examination (as per UGC
guidelines).
iii. Before appearing at the end semester examination, each candidate will be required to fill up Examination
Form and pay requisite fees including examination fees online through RBU, CDOE website as per the
schedule prescribed by the University from time to time.
iv. Date of distribution of admit cards and programmes of examination will be announced in advance and the
students will be intimated accordingly through the website of the RBU, CDOE. Admit Cards will be
issued to only those candidates who will be considered eligible. Those candidates who fail to satisfy the provisions mentioned at clause numbers ‘I (i), (ii) and (iii)’ above shall not be eligible for
examination and such candidates will have to seek readmission in the same semester, as the case may
be.
v. Even though the candidates, who fail to appear or qualify the end semester examination but have satisfied
the provisions mentioned at clause numbers ‘I (i), (ii) and (iii)’ above for appearing at the end semester
examination, are eligible to take admission to the next higher Semester, as the case may be, within the stipulated duration of the course.
vi. Each eligible candidate will be required to take online admission to the next higher semester or year, as the
case may be and will also be required to fill-in the Examination Form for each Semester with requisite fees
through CDOE RBU website as per the schedule prescribed by the University from time to time.
Duration of Examination:
a. The duration of semester examination for each theoretical Course of 40 marks shall be of two (2) hours.
b. 10 marks for Internal Assessment for each course of the programme are required to submit at the concerned
LSC within the stipulated time.
c. In case of the candidates belonging to the category of persons with benchmark disabilities, scribe with
‘compensatory time’ may be granted as per relevant norms issued by the competent authority from time
to time. However, such candidates will have to apply in prescribed format to the Joint Registrar
(Examination), fifteen days before the commencement of scheduled examination.
d. For Practical Course, duration of the examination for a Course up to 40 marks will be of 4 (four) hours.
e. Rules regarding duration, number of course in the examination etc. are subject to change as and when
University authorities may decide to do so.
vii. A student failing to obtain 40% of full marks (internal assessment and semester end examination taken
together) in one or more course(s) in Semester Examination shall be permitted to re-appear in that course only
at the subsequent Semester Examinations i.e in Semester system odd Semester with next odd Semester and
even Semester with next even Semester examination. The Internal Assessment (IA) marks obtained in the
failed paper / course will be carried forward.

Disciplinary action for adoption of unfair means in Examination:
Adoption of unfair means by any candidate in Examination will be reported to the Board of Discipline of the
University. However, the Reported Against (RA) candidates will be given opportunity for hearing as per
prevailing norms of the University. The result of such candidates will be published as per decision of the
Board of Discipline.
J. PASS CONDITIONS
Semester System:
A candidate will have to secure at least 40% of full marks (internal assessment and semester end examination
taken together) in each course to qualify in that Course.
K. EVALUATION AND CERTIFICATION
(i) The University shall adopt the guidelines issued by the UGC from time to time in regard to the conduct of
examinations.
(ii) The marks obtained in Internal Assessment (IA) and semester-end examination will be shown separately in
the Mark sheet for each course.
(iii) The evaluation shall include two types of assessments i.e. continuous or formative assessment (which is 20%
of the full marks) in the form of Internal Assessment (IA), and summative assessment (which is 80% of the
full marks) in the form of end semester examination or term end examination.
(iv) No Re-evaluation (Review) process will be considered, as any student will unsatisfied / fail in any course /
courses of the Programme.
(v) Result will be published after proper evaluation of the scripts by the examiners appointed for this purpose and
will ordinarily be published through RBU, CDOE Website. Examinees will not be communicatedindividually.
L. AWARD
Mark sheet will be provided to each appearing candidate after each semester in case of semester mode, having
mentioned on it the credit hour and mode of delivery i.e. Distance Learning; Photograph and Signature of the
candidate; Student Unique Identification Number (SUIN) or University Identity of learner issued by the
University; name and place of ‘Learner Support Centre’ and of ‘Examination Centre’; Date of Admission/Date of
Commencement of the Academic Programme and Date of Completion. After passing all semesters in case of
semester mode, candidate will be provided consolidated Mark sheet along with Grade with Percentage and
Qualitative Evaluation as well as Certificate after completion of the Post-Graduate (Master’s degree) Academic
Programme.

information and updates. The Students are required to follow the RBU, CDOE website for updates and
notifications on a regular basis.
