PROJECT: Erkiletian: The Asher built by KBR 17 kW Array Designed and Installed by Prospect Solar, LLC Modules: (70) Kyorcera 235 Watt Inverters (3) Power-One 5000W Aurora Monitoring: Locus LGate310 Racking: Sollega InstaRack 10° (Ballast Mount) Roof: TPO Project Location: Alexandria, Virginia Commissioned: 1/7/12 Personnel Involved: Jon Hillis, Andrew Skinner, Kevin Graves Project Description: Prospect Solar was contracted to design and install a photovoltaic array on top of a new residential apartment complex in Alexandria, VA. The mid-rise apartment complex desired to offset the electricity price of its 206 apartments by adding solar to the flat roof top. The series of (70) Kyorcera 235 W modules are orchestrated around the roof surface making way for HVAC and other building equipment, composing a16.45 kW photovoltaic system. A ballast-mounted system was employed in conjunction with (12) anchors that had been designed into the roof structure at its construction. In addition to Prospect Solar being able to maintain the roof warranty, this was a great new construction project, especially since the architect of the facility had been forward thinking about solar, allowing our design and engineering staff to easily accommodate solar access. An additional feature Prospect Solar included, was the Locus Energy Monitoring system. This monitoring system was designed to have a kiosk display in the tenants’ business center that allows the facility to share the system production information.

PROJECT: Foreign Embassy ClientDesigned and Installed by Prospect Solar, and Commercial Express HVAC Inc. PV Modules: (8) AU Optronic 240 Watt SHW Collector: (4) Heliodyne Gobi PV Inverter: SMA America Sunny Boy 2000W Racking: Sollega InstaRack 10° (Ballast Mounted) Roof: Hot Rubberized Asphalt Project Location: District of Columbia, NW Commissioned: 12/14/2012 Personnel Involved: Jon Hillis, Andrew Skinner, Kevin Graves, Nick Messer Project Description: Prospect Solar was contracted to design and install a solar thermal (or a solar hot water) collector as well as a photovoltaic array. The Client’s building houses about thirty tenants in their in-facility apartments, and was looking for a reduction on their energy costs attributed to water heating. The solution that Prospect Solar selected was a (4) panel, Heliodyne Gobi Solar Thermal Collector. This collector boasts 95% solar accumulation, a 1.25 gallon/minute flow rate, and has also been ranked by SRCC as a top ten OG-100 collector panel. Using a minimal 20 penetrations, the roof mounting system for the SHW collector was seamlessly flashed by Prospect Waterproofing (who was also installing the roof) to guarantee against leaks and preserving the manufacturer’s roof warranty. The result is a projected 70% reduction in hot-water energy costs. Since the solar-thermal system utilizes electric pumps to transport the glycol-water mixture from array to storage tank, Prospect Solar also designed a 2kW photovoltaic array to offset the added electrical load of the pumps. The 1.92 kW array is made up of (8) AUO 240 watt photovoltaic modules, and is utilizes Prospect Solar’s preferred attachment of ballasted mounting.

PROJECT: Commercial Facility 38 kW Array Designed and Installed by Prospect Solar Modules: (148) LG 260 Watt Inverter: (3) Power-One 12000W Aurora Inverters Monitoring: Locus LGate310 Racking: Sollega FastRack 5° (Ballast Mounted) Roof: Built Up Tar & Gravel Project Location: District of Columbia, NW Commissioned: 4/10/2013 Personnel Involved: Jon Hillis, Andrew Skinner, Kevin Graves, Nick Messer Project Description: A DC cartage and trash removal service contacted Prospect Solar to install a solar photovoltaic energy system on the roof of its new facility. This project allowed Prospect Solar to utilize both its solar expertise, as well as its roofing and waterproofing experience. Prospect Solar wanted to insure the longevity of both solar system and the roof, so Prospect Waterproofing was subcontracted for minor remedial roof/waterproofing repair. Once remediation was completed, Prospect Solar installed a 38.5 kW PV array, consisting of (148) Black LG 260 Watt modules connected to (3) Power-One 12000 W Aurora Inverters. The mounting system employed was the Sollega 5° FastRack System that utilized recycled, high-density polyurethane ballast trays to attach to the roof without the need of penetrations. Underneath the ballast trays, Prospect Solar also opted to install an EPDM strip used as a sacrificial membrane under the ballast trays. This sacrificial membrane was integrated to avoid damage to the waterproofing of the roof. The 38kW PV array consisted entirely of Buy American Compliant components, and is estimated to offset the energy bill by 73%.

PROJECT: Residential 5.7kW Solar ArrayDesigned and Installed by Prospect Solar Modules: (19) LG Solar 300 Watt Inverter: (19) Enphase Energy Micro-Inverters Monitoring: Enphase Envoy Racking: SnapNRack (Flush & Standing Seam Mount) Roofs: Asphalt Shingle & Seam Metal Project Location: Waterford, Virginia Commissioned: 11/21/2013 Personnel Involved: Jon Hillis, Andrew Skinner, Kevin Graves, Nick Messer Project Description: A customer in the Village of Waterford, a National Historic Landmark, desired a solar energy system for their 197 year old home, and contracted the specialty project with Prospect Solar. In addition to standard design, permitting, and installation, special design considerations were incorporated to meet Loudoun County Historic District Guidelines in order to receive zoning approval. The design was very sensitive to the heights of the (19) LG Solar 300 watt modules on both the asphalt shingle and standing seam roofs, and also needed to eliminate any visibility from public right-of-ways. Micro-Inverters were used to accommodate multiple roof faces and tilts, and were hidden below the all black panels on the racking systems. Additional provisions were included as well as collaboration and a hearing with the Historic Review Board to gain their approval. The end result, was a system producing an estimated 55% of the customer’s electric bill, saving over $600 in energy costs per year.
