GOOD V. EVILHOW MUST CHRISTIANS ACT?!

Levushkan: Christians in the socialmedia are talking a lot about politicalissues at the moment, especially aboutthe human rights of Christians, especial-ly in view of legislation and the interpre-tation of legislation which goes againstChristian conscience.

David: We have to be extremely carefulbecause spiritual issues are higher thanpolitics. Forty years ago when I cameout of a communist prison, I becameinvolved in a prisoner release pro-gramme on behalf of people impris-oned for their faith in the Soviet commu-nist countries. It became the largest andmost successful Christian campaignever held in Britain – and we got thefamous preacher Georgi Vins, leader ofthe Russian Evangelical Baptists, out ofprison. To achieve it we had to engagein political issues, but eventually I had tomake a decision, was my future to be inthe political arena or the spiritual? Ichose the spiritual. If I had continued inthe political sphere I would not be theevangelist I am today. As Christians weneed to be concerned about politicalthings, but we also have to be carefulhow we set our priorities.

I believe in the freedom of religion. Justas we want freedom for Christians, polit-ically we have to allow freedom toother religions too. When I was fightingto get Georgi Vins out of prison, thestrongest weapon that I had was thatRussia had just signed the HelsinkiAccord of Human Rights (this was in the1970s). For the first time Russia hadsigned an international agreementwhich guaranteed freedom of speechand religion. It was this, technically apolitical issue, which we used to getpeople out of prison who were there aspersecuted Christians.

President Putin is being heavily criticisedin the liberal West for his stand for mar-riage between one man and onewoman. I identify with Christians inBritain who are opposed to same-sexmarriage, because the Bible is againstit! I don’t believe governments or poli-

tics should change this, but unfortunate-ly our government in Britain has! Notonly Britain, this is becoming universal.So to this extent we have to be involvedin politics, because the Bible raises avery big question: do we, living in socie-ty as Christians, obey God or man? TheBible clearly says we should obey thosewho have the rule over us – that’s cor-rect – but not when the rulers areagainst the rule of God.

Most people know my history as a Biblesmuggler into Eastern Europe in thecommunist days. I was taking 2 tonnesof Bibles every time I went! For that I wasimprisoned. When I came out by a mira-cle in answer to prayer, there weresome Christians who attacked me pub-licly: ‘David, you should not have smug-gled Bibles into Russia, Christians shouldnot break the law.’ But it comes back tothe question: ‘Do you obey God orman?’ One influential man in the mediacame to my rescue: ‘How can youattack David for smuggling Bibles intocommunist Russia? Three hundred yearsago, Bibles had to be smuggled intoEngland!’ They were printed in Hollandand hidden in bales of straw and smug-gled across the Channel. The man whotranslated the Bible into English from theancient texts was burned at the stake!Was it right to smuggle the Bible intoBritain secretly? Yes, because of theimportance of the Word of God!

Levushkan: Some former Soviet coun-tries are still dreaming of entering intothe European Union. What is your opin-ion on this political issue?

David: Many of these countries wantingto join are weak in themselves. This iswhat happened with the Baltic Stateswho are now part of the EU. They hadobtained freedom from the SovietUnion, but they needed support toremain free. I warned them at the timeof the danger that they would escapefrom one destructive political union onlyto come into another which would alsocontrol them. I fully understand thedesire to break free from the relics of

communism and to obtain freedom inthe EU. But there is a wider picture tolook at – and this becomes a very bigsubject – the Bible speaks about ‘oneworld government’ in opposition toGod. History shows that there havebeen many attempts to set up this‘world government’. In modern historywe have seen the Illuminati, the FrenchRevolution, Napoleon, communism(which was actually exported from theWest into Russia)... And now the finan-cial powers. These are forces that areseeking to control the world, and theEuropean Union is part of this world sys-tem. This world is in fact a battlegroundbetween good and evil. Between Godand the devil.

The Freemasons also see it as a fightbetween good and evil – but they sayGod (Adonai) is evil, and the devil(Lucifer) is good! This is completelywrong! God is good and the devil is evil,and this world is the battleground. This iswhy we have such a battle asChristians! It’s not just a political issue, it’sa spiritual battle, and at this moment intime the devil’s power is on theincrease. I see the political side, but I’mnot going to get myself lost in politics. If Ibelieve we are in a battle betweenGod and the devil, then it challengesme to do what I do – to preach theGospel! Because only the power of theGospel can change men and changethe world! God will win this battle – weknow this because we have read theend of the Book! This is our strength – weknow ultimately Christ will get the victory.

Levushkan: Many people are looking tothe pastor, the leader, the spiritual ‘pro-fessional’ to do the job. They givemoney and they support, but they don’tsee that preaching the Gospel is theirjob. What is your opinion?

David: Preaching the Gospel isn’t a jobfor the ‘professionals’! What I do is frommy heart and not because I am a ‘pro-fessional’ evangelist! How can you con-vince anybody unless what you say

comes from your heart?! I share thereality of a Christ who has changed mylife! You can keep your ‘professionals’ –but I’m going to speak from my experi-ence and from my heart.

When Jesus was dealing with the ordi-nary people, He saw their need, He min-istered to them. I try to ‘minister’ to peo-ple, I’m not trying to force something onthem – whether it’s healing, or dealingwith addictions and sin – I’m looking tosee people’s lives changed, healed,made whole. There are times when wehave to be strong and speak againstthe opposition to the Gospel. And if wesee sin, we can condemn it, but wehave to be careful – Jesus taught us tocondemn the sin, but to love the sinner!I love sinners. I spent one year in a com-munist prison for Bible smuggling and forpreaching in the underground churchesunder the worst years of the SovietUnion. I found myself with ordinary crimi-nals, my best friend was a murderer! Itenabled me to see who these peoplewere – somebody’s husband, son,father, brother – ordinary people! That’swhy God sent His Son into the world, sothat He could live amongst us and loveus as we are! Not to see us as ‘the sin-ner’, but to see our need! Our need ofredemption! That’s what drives me!

Evangelism has been my whole life formore than 60 years, but I do it, not as aprofession, but because it’s a calling –from God – and a gift from Him. It is Godwho calls us as apostles, prophets, pas-tors, teachers and evangelists... So yourlife has to be right with God, and theBible lays down a strict moral code andChristian character – we need to beobedient to this. But this all comes froman experience in our hearts. Sometimesthe best preachers are the men whohave come from the depths of sin. If youhave been ‘right down there’ and Godhas delivered you – WOW – that is apowerful experience! So you will speakfrom personal experience, because youyourself have experienced deliverance,salvation! Yes, we’ve got to live a holylife, but don’t get this wrong... Don’t

think that the way to a ‘holy’ life is to beisolated – ‘don’t look on a woman,don’t touch money, don’t get involvedin the world’... This puts you undertremendous pressure. No, my salvationand yours has to stand the test of livingin the world! To me, holiness is not beingshut up in a monastery or being isolatedfrom the world so that you never see sin,never tempted. To me, holiness is livingin a sinful world – like Jesus did – and thepower of God in you overcoming thetemptation.

Levushkan: There is a crisis in the Church– Catholics, Orthodox, Evangelicals,Charismatics – and everyone is talkingabout it. Will the Church survive the crisis?

David: This is a very big and difficultquestion. Having worked a lot with Jewsrecently has put a new perspective onthings. The Messianic Jews who havecome to believe in the Messiah are not

united. Sometimes I think they are moresplit into different segments than theChristian Church! They argue overwhether to keep the Jewish law, andwhich laws – it becomes so complicat-ed, there are as many different opinionsas there are different groups! Now l seethe divisions in the Christian Church inthis same way. My personal opinion isthat the WHOLE Church has driftedaway from God’s original concept! Thishappened in a significant way whenthe Church became legitimised by theRoman Empire in the third century afterChrist. So many people were cominginto the Church, they brought a lot oftheir paganism with them (festivals and‘saints’ with special powers), mixed withan element of ‘Old Testament’Christianity (priesthood, altar, sacrifices).We’re living in an age where we mustre-examine our faith. We must comeback to a New Testament pattern,recognise how the early disciples wor-shipped and lived out their faith, whattheir priorities were.

This is a very important subject becausewe have to acknowledge that thereare problems in the Church. The dangerin any religious group is when wereplace faith in the heart with ritual,eventually the ritual, what you do,replaces faith. Faith has to be an experi-ence in your heart. We have to getback to the recognition of who Jesus isand base our belief on Him and HisWord! The Bible says that only Christ isthe Head of the Church!

When I first came to Lithuania four yearsago, all the denominations workedtogether – Catholic, Pentecostal,Evangelical, Lutheran. What moved mewas the letter I received afterwardsfrom the heads of every denominationin which they wrote: David didn’t divideus, he united us in preaching theGospel.

Preaching the Gospel is the first and thelast commandment of Christ to theChurch. I don’t think we will ever recon-cile all the differences between thechurches and the denominations. Butwe should come together on this onepoint: the declaration of the Kingdomof God, salvation from sin whoever youare, the belief in the return of Christ, andthe judgement to come.

Levushkan: Because of the scandals

and problems in the churches, manypeople are offended and havestopped trusting in Christianity. Whatwould you say to such people?

David: I am aware of large numbers ofpeople who have left church. Toomany. Usually because they are disillu-sioned with what they see, becausesomehow what they are seeing andhearing is not what is in the Bible. In theBible the nation Israel is a picture of theChurch, a picture of the formation ofGod’s people. Over the thousands ofyears of their history they are ‘up’, thenthey’re ‘down’. God works miracles –and they serve Him. Then they turn theirback on God and worship idols. Up anddown. It’s the same with the Church.We need a period of spiritual revival. Ispeak with some authority, living inBritain as I do, because we have hadseveral significant revivals where therecame a real move of the Spirit of Godwhich restored faith. My father was con-verted in the Welsh Revival – it reachedevery church, and every church wasfilled. The churches and the peoplewere changed! It also happened underJohn and Charles Wesley – members ofthe Church of England who receivedthe spirit of evangelism, preached theGospel – and were thrown out of theChurch of England because they weretold you can’t preach outside a churchbuilding! – John Wesley was preachingto tens of thousands of people in theopen! But that revival changed Britain! Iwas taught at school that history

records that only one thing saved Britainfrom the destruction of the FrenchRevolution – the preaching of theGospel by John and Charles Wesley!What we need in the Churches today isanother revival of faith.

Our English word ‘revival’ is from aFrench word which means beingbrought back to life – something thathad life, lost it, and is brought back tolife. This is the spirit that the Churchneeds, a spirit that gets rid of what isdead and brings new life, a spiritualawakening! We are standing on theedge of that now. Every church needsthis – Catholic, Evangelical, Charismatic– every denomination. It will not happenthrough politics or religious ‘profession-als’ – it can only come one way, by adivine outpouring of the Spirit of God,the life of God.

People need God, but they are so busy,have so many problems – with health,with work, money, family, marriage.Unless the Church can give a practicallife-changing answer to the man in thestreet, the Church is useless and irrelevantto him. This is what Jesus did – He came togive the personal answer – to the prosti-tute, the blind, the sinner – He brought theanswer. Only Christ has the answer.

Islam will not rule the world, nor will theFreemasons, the Bilderbergers, theIlluminati or the Pagans. Fear-mongering isbig business today. The aim of every gov-ernment is to create fear through its policeand military forces, through negativereports such as global warming, internation-al debt and global violence. This poisonouscocktail is drip fed to the populationthrough TV and media, so that people arekept in a constant state of fear, worry andstress.

The Church, which is supposed to be theLight in a dark world, is in danger of beingintimidated by the god of this world, Satan,through political systems that produce fear.Communism is one of those systems thatspread great fear by killing so far 94 millionpeople. Another was the Nazis. Their racialwarmongering resulted in 55 million killed inWWII. Effective as those political systemswere, Satan’s next masterpiece surpassesthem all. As an extremely intelligent being,the god of this world took his most effectiveweapons, the killing machine (of the com-munists) and the racial fanaticism (of theNazis) and combined them in one singleforce, Islam. Fuelled by powerful Anti-Semitic and Anti-Christian spirits, this men-ace is bent on wiping out Israel anddestroying the Church.

But this won’t happen! The god of this worldmay be strong, but the God of all gods isstronger. The king of darkness may be pow-erful, but the King of kings is more powerful.The lord of the flies may be mighty, but theLord of lords is almighty, in fact He is calledthe Almighty! The Almighty God, in His per-fect strategy, sent Jesus, Yeshua, the Lightof the world, to invade the domain of theprince of darkness and take the fight to theenemy. Jesus’ words on the cross – ‘it is fin-ished’ – was a prophetic declaration to thegod of this world ‘you are finished’! WhenJesus descended, he kicked down thegates of hell and took the enemy apart,disarming and disabling the whole satanichost: “Having disarmed the powers andauthorities, He made a public spectacle ofthem, triumphing over them by the cross.”(Col 2:15.)

In our time we have witnessed the amazingspectacle of people who were enslaved bythe communists, coming to Christ by theirmillions! When the Nazis sought to wipe outthe Jews and destroy Christianity, Godspectacularly re-established the state ofIsrael in 1948 after 2000 years of exile, andsent great revivals to the Church resulting in2.3 billion members worldwide today.

The spectacle of Yeshua’s victory over thepowers of darkness is seen in the last days –our days – when God is pouring out His HolySpirit: ‘And it shall come to pass in the lastdays, saith God, I will pour out of My Spiritupon all flesh: and your sons and yourdaughters shall prophesy, and your youngmen shall see visions, and your old menshall dream dreams.’ (Acts 2:17-18.) Thisspeaks about the continuous outpouring

over the last 2000 years which has broughtmillions into the Kingdom of God. It speaksabout the mighty outpouring in our days,where 2.5 million people are coming tofaith in the Messiah every year, comparedwith 865,000 who convert to Islam. TheLondon Times wrote that 15% of Moslems inWestern Europe are leaving Islam, 200,000in the UK alone! Some statisticians say thatevery hour 667 Moslems convert to Christ,that is: 16,000 every day, 112,000 everyweek, 500,000 every month, 6 million everyyear! The reason I chose to believe thesestatistics is because Yeshua, the Saviour ofthe world, is pouring His Spirit upon all peo-ple from every tribe and every nation,including the Moslem nations! Many lead-ing Moslems are having visions aboutYeshua and about Israel. Recently one ShiaAyatollah said after a three hour meetingwith Christians in Baghdad: “We as the Shiamust love the Jews, we as the Shia mustlove and support Israel, people must tell theShia that without Israel we have no future.”He was not saying he agrees with every-thing Israel does, but he was saying thatIsrael is the sovereign homeland of theJewish people.

American communication strategist andauthor of ‘The Last Jihad’, JoelRosenberger, writes in his article ‘The UntoldStory’: ‘The God of the Bible is moving pow-erfully in the Middle East to draw men,women and children to His heart andadopt them into His family in record num-bers. More Moslems have come to faith inJesus Christ over the last 30 years andspecifically over the last 7-10 years than atany other time in human history. There is arevival going on among the ancientCatholic, Coptic and Chaldean Churches.Today the Church is being resurrected inthe land of its birth’ (joelrosenberg.com).According to Catholic statistics there areover 180 million born again and Spirit filledCatholics worldwide. One of the largestChurches in the Middle East is the Coptic‘Cave’ Church in Cairo, where 20,000believers, many of them former Moslems,pray for revival.

Islam will not rule the world, ‘for the earthwill be filled with the knowledge of the gloryof the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.’(Hab 2:14.) The world is not getting darkeras many Christians fear, but the earth is get-ting lighter as we see ‘the sun of righteous-ness rise upon us, with healing in its wings’.(Mal 4:2.) The earth is the Lord’s – it belongsto Yeshua who dethroned the god of thisworld and defeated him on the cross, mak-ing a public spectacle of him!

This does not say that Satan won’t fight orthat he will give up his obsessive desire towipe out Israel and destroy the Church. Thisdoes not say that wars will cease and Anti-Semitism will stop. Neither will be the whole-sale slaughter and persecution of Christians.This does not say that world governmentswill cease their fear-mongering or will try toprotect Israel and respect the Church. Butthe devil’s dream of the One World Order is

destined to fail; it is falling apart at its seamseven as you read this. Islam is going to be aspectacular failure. Although the silent andlargely unreported Christian Holocaust atthe hand of Moslems, who murder on aver-age 200,000 Christians every year, appearslike Islam is winning, in the end it will proveto be a spectacular failure as ‘the blood ofthe martyrs is the seed of the Church’(Tertullian). For every Christian who is mar-tyred by the Islamic Jihad, thirty Moslemsare turning to Christ. For every Church theyburn, scores of Churches are raised up inMoslem nations around the world.

The enemy will continue to cause mayhemin his effort to stop the Church taking his ter-ritory, plunder his domain and release hiscaptives. But he cannot stop the greatspectacle of the people of God, clothedwith the same power that raised Yeshuafrom death, going into all the world to con-quer enemy-held territory and proclaim theGood News that Jesus Christ is King of kingsand Lord of lords. And that He shall reign –not Islam, nor the Freemasons, theBilderbergers, the Illuminati and One Worlddreamers who suffer from Satan’s delusionsof grandeur.

Let this be our vision and our messageand our focus. Because Yeshua said ‘fearnot’, we shall not be afraid of the future orany so-called human or demonic powers,for greater is God in us than the god of thisworld. What the enemy is most afraid of, isthese fearless conquerors who walk in theraw power of the risen Saviour! It is thisSpirit that is being outpoured in the lastdays, dynamic Holy Ghost Power from onHigh! Against this the enemy’s weaponsare useless! Through these people whoare thus empowered – that is us – theKingdom of God is advancing forcefullyand the enemy’s rule will come to an end.The kingdom of the god of this world gov-ernment is going to fail spectacularly, butof the Kingdom of the Messiah, there willbe no end!

Previously, I led quite a criminal life, Iwas a drug addict. Naturally such alifestyle involves frequent detention inpolice custody, frequent criminalrecords, disease. One time when I wasin prison, in winter 2002, the cells wereso overcrowded, I was living in suchbad conditions, the result was I gotgangrene in my leg. Everything hap-pened so quickly I couldn’t keep trackof it all. And of course the prison doc-tors told me they couldn’t help me.The leg was full of necrosis – dead tis-sue – with the risk of necrosis of thebone. I couldn’t walk, eat, drink. I hadblood poisoning, the strongest septi-caemia. Most of the time I was eitherunconscious or unable to sleep. Andno one treated me. It was a miraclethat, thanks to my mum, I was trans-ferred under prison escort to the cityhospital. But there, too, I didn’t expectanything good when the doctorslooked at my condition. I weighed

only about 40 kg. I was exhausted, Ialmost never regained consciousness,I had severe pain. My leg was totallyblack, and due to the necrosis, it wasrigid and I could no longer straightenit. The doctors said I had virtually nochance of survival – the only chance– if the leg is amputated, and it shouldbe done as quickly as possible. Andthen unbelievers told us thatEvangelist David Hathaway was com-ing to our city. My friends, my mother,my grandmother grabbed at thisopportunity as a last hope, because Ihad no other chance. No one trustedthe doctors, and even I did notbelieve that I would survive.

I was in a very critical condition. I wasliterally carried on a stretcher to thehall where the evangelisation was tak-ing place. I was barely conscious.David Hathaway prayed for me in theName of Jesus Christ. First, it seemed

nothing happened. I was in such aweakened state, I remember thosedays in a haze. I was in such pain thatI only ever regained consciousnessmomentarily and then sank awaysomewhere.

Grandma: Anton was ill and was hos-pitalised in a serious condition. Ibelieve in the miracles of God and inHis healing. And when DavidHathaway came to Perm, the first daywe took Anton on a stretcher to hisservice. The next day I ran to Davidand begged him to come to the hos-pital to Anton and again pray for hishealing, because he was already onthe point of death.

Anton: Sunday was the last service,and on Monday David came to me inthe hospital. He came for five minutesonly, but those five minutes literallychanged my life. When he prayed forme in the hospital, I was lying downand couldn’t get out of bed. Alreadya decision had to be made about theamputation, and I had the consentforms to sign. And I wanted to do it,because I thought that in this way thepain would go away. After the prayerDavid said to my mum and grandma,

“Whatever happens don’t let themcut his leg off...” Some might thinkthat’s crazy. The doctors thought so.When they heard that a preacherhad come in and would not let my legbe amputated, they made the crazysign, twisting their fingers to theirheads, and wanted to kick me out ofthe hospital, because I do not obeytheir instructions...

Grandma: I was very devoted to God,I believed in healing and that Godwould help anyway. And throughDavid’s prayer, God helped Anton!

Anton: It didn’t happen that in onemoment my leg instantly grew out asnew leg, all the old gone and all newgrown – no. But only one week later Igot up on crutches. Yes – just oneweek later I was up on crutches, Istarted walking to stretch the leg! Andgradually, gradually... I have certainlybeen in different clinics where theydid skin grafts, but once the healingprocess started – all the disease went.There was no hope for me, that’s afact. A committee of professors, doc-tors, surgeons gave me no chance atall. Everything was hopeless. But Godbegan to act. And I began to believe

I could survive. The year before this mygrandmother was also healed at oneof David Hathaway’s crusades. Shehad very severe asthma, shecoughed and choked. She had had itover 70 years. She received a real mir-acle, it completely vanished.

And the most amazing thing for me inthis whole story – it is a miracle thatamazes me – after that prayer, Davidsaid these words – how could heknow, it was just amazing, it was sucha miracle, that took a long time, manyyears to be fulfilled – David said, “Youwill testify with me in Israel!” He did notknow that I have Jewish roots. But Ihad no thoughts, my mother had nosuch thoughts, to move to Israel. Thesewords sounded like from outer space,unreal. And now, after eleven years,here I am in Israel, on my legs, healed.God performed such a great miracle.We believed the Word of God: thatwas the beginning of the healing thatwas to come. God healed my leg, myliver, changed my life. I have a beauti-ful wife, two wonderful healthy chil-dren, I’m not a criminal, not a drugaddict, I do not suffer any diseases, Ido not sit in prison, I’m totally free! Iserve God, I’m in church, I play in the

worship group on the saxophone. AndI love God. My life has changed dra-matically. And here I am in Israel! It isone year and three months since ourfamily immigrated to Israel. We live inthe city of Ashdod. Praise God!

I want to say to everyone who has a problem. I knowwhat a desperate situation is, I know what a serious illnessis, I know what it means to have one foot in the grave. Isay this without exaggeration. But I came through it. Iwant to tell everyone who may have lost all hope and justdo not see a way out. I want to say – do not lose hope! Donot lose faith! There is a God! In Heaven there is a God!Jesus is the Healer who can change everything, who can

give you hope, who can do amazing things that you can’teven think of! You can’t imagine that He can turn every-thing upside down, and all your troubles can turn out forgood. Focus your attention on God’s Living Word. Learn topray, pray aloud because it helps kindle faith in you. It islike a seed. Take this seed. Read God’s Word. And pray toGod, believe God. With God, nothing is impossible, forHim there are no hopeless situations. God is great!

I appeal to everybody, believers, unbelievers. Let’s trustGod, make every effort to come to Him! Ask Him for helpand He will help you! Do this, and do not lose hope if you

have someone sick or in sin, or if you are sick or in sin.Hope, and God will help you!

Please pray with me – in September this year we areholding our largest ever evangelism – in Poland. Polandstands in Central Europe, ravaged by both East and Westin living memory, and the killing ground of Europe’s Jewsin the Holocaust of World War II, notably in Auschwitz. Weare expecting tens of thousands, a hundred thousand,more. The people need Christ.

Like Paul, I need you to send me, I cannot do this withoutyour support. Paul wrote, ‘Everyone who calls on theName of the Lord shall be saved. But how shall they callon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shallthey believe in Him of whom they have not heard? Andhow shall they hear without a preacher? And how shallthey preach unless they be sent?’ (Romans 10:13-15.)

I was once asked in a TV interviewwhy I see so many miracles of heal-ing in my meetings. It’s certainly notthe ‘atmosphere’, the beautifulmusic, the smooth presentation, noteven the awe-inspiring presence ofthe Holy Spirit. No, I remembered thedusty stadiums in Russia and Ukraine,broken seats, poor amplification,thousands of people fighting to betouched by the Lord, crowds out ofcontrol, cries of desperation, shoutsof despair. Helpless people, dirtybandages, open wounds, stinkingdiseases. The middle aged looking soold because of their poverty and suf-fering. No medicines, no availabledoctors or hospitals. Over the wholestadium such a desperate sense thatwithout Jesus, if He is not alive, unlesssomeone knows Him, there is nohope. My answer was this: the reasonI see so many miracles is the desper-ate need of the people to find Jesus– and the desperation of Jesus tofind the people who really want Him.

In the comfort of the West, peoplesay to me, “Pray for me, but if I’m nothealed I will go to the doctor or thehospital, and they will heal me.” Butin Russia, Poland and even Israelthey say, “Pray for me. Without ChristI have no hope and I will die in pain!”They are desperate for Him.

In the Bible Jesus says, “Behold Istand at the door and knock. If anyman will open the door, I will comein!” (Revelation 3:20.) Jesus is morewilling to come to us than we are toreceive Him! I try to tell people howsimple it is to receive Jesus. All youhave to do is be like a drowningman: stop struggling, let go of yourtiny piece of flotsam and let Him res-cue you. I understand that one prob-lem the rescuer has is that thedrowning person is struggling somuch, it is hard for the victim to trusttheir saviour! That wonderful hymnwriter put it so powerfully: ‘Just as Iam without one plea, but that Thy

Blood was shed for me…I come!”

Healing, deliverance, forgiveness … stop struggling to rescue yourself,relax and let Him deliver you! InRussia, in East Europe, they want tobe touched, they need to be loved,they want something personal. Butthat’s just how it is for us! So many ofyou reading this have secret prob-lems you cannot share; they are toodeep, too personal. Tell everything toJesus. It’s the only way to be healed,delivered, set free. He alreadyknows, He understands and He’swaiting for you to come to Him. Helived here on earth like you in orderto understand all the problems weface, that’s why He did not con-demn the prostitute, but gave herpower to ‘sin no more’!

Talk to Him. He’s listening. Ask Him to forgive your sin, to healyou. He loves you – He’ll answer!

I believe in a God of miracles! Romans10:8ff says: ‘The Word is near you, even inyour mouth and in your heart, that is theWord of faith which we preach...If you willconfess with your mouth the Lord Jesusand believe in your heart that God hasraised Him from the dead, you will besaved!’ But it’s impossible for us to besaved!! Come on! I’m an evangelist, astadium evangelist, and I want you toknow, it’s impossible for you to be saved!!Look what you have to do!! You have toconfess the Lord Jesus and believe theabsolutely impossible, that God raisedJesus from the dead – and you will besaved!! Just to get into the Kingdom ofGod, you’ve got to believe in an incredi-ble, powerful miracle!! You don’t get intothe Kingdom of God just by going tochurch, not by reciting prayers, not evenby reading the Bible! You come into theKingdom of God by believing a miracle!!Without a miracle there is no salvation, nodeliverance – sin is still there. The onlyway into the Kingdom is by a miracle!!When you believe!!

When I talk about miracles, people thinkI’m talking about healings. But that isonly part. I think I have seen more mira-cles than any living man! I believe in aGod of miracles, of power, of authority –a God of the impossible who changesthings. Right now, God has to changeyour life and mine, then through you, Hecan change your nation. I have such astrong passionate desire to see His Glory.The world doesn’t know who God is,they don’t understand Him. Until youand I KNOW who God is, KNOW Hispower, until we experience His Glory inour lives, the world out there will neverknow and understand who God is.

We’ve got to learn communication withGod – prayer is communication with

God. But the church today doesn’t knowhow to pray! Prayer will revolutioniseyour life! I’m hungry for God, I want toKNOW Him. I want to KNOW His power inmy life. At the beginning of this year Itook a week to pray, in Austria, on oneof the highest mountains, because Ihave big problems. But when Godbegan to speak, revealing Himself, Ifound myself praying over Jacob, howhe met with God. In Genesis 32 it saysthat Jacob WRESTLED with God, FOUGHTwith Him. Why? Why this battle betweena man and God? Was he resisting God?Or did God have to do something inJacob’s life? But at the end of that bat-tle, God turned to Jacob and said: ‘As aprince you have power with God! Andpower with men!’ (KJV.) If you wantpower with men, you first must havepower with God. Not power FROM God,but power WITH God. The church haslost its power with God! We have torelearn how to pray.

How have I learned how to pray? –Through trial, through tribulation! When Iwas just a young pastor, a man in mychurch was dying of terminal cancer.We prayed and God raised him, totallyhealed him, I saw the cancer comingout of his body! This wasn’t healing –they had cut out parts of his body; Godremade him! I was just a young man.When the son saw the power of God inhis dad, God filled that boy with the HolyGhost and he went on to preach theGospel! That’s the power of God – Hechanges men!

But what changed MY life a few yearslater was when I had throat cancer. Iwas a pastor and evangelist, but now Icouldn’t preach! I refused treatment,saying I believe in a God who answersprayer. I prayed three months, believed I

was healed, so went back to the doc-tors. They said, “There is no God, there isno miracle, your cancer has become sobig, on Monday we will operate andremove your voice.” Did I say to myself,God doesn’t answer prayer, God can’tremove this, can’t work miracles...?What kind of a God do YOU have?! Is Hepowerless? Or is He the greatest God inthe whole world? MY God is the God ofthe Bible, powerful, glorious and whoworks miracles! There’s no God likeJehovah! But I wasn’t healed!! What didI do? I said, “Oh God, teach me how topray!” I was a preacher, and evangelist,I had seen miracles of healing! Now Iwas on my face before God, “Oh God,is something wrong with me? – There’snothing wrong with You Lord, it must beme! – Oh God, heal me!” Still nothinghappened. Then I changed my prayer,saying “O h God, if You want me toremain in my church, live in England –don’t heal me! But I believe You are aGod of power and authority, who canchange the world! If You want me toleave my church, step out in faith, go toRussia, then I need a powerful miracle –HEAL ME!” That night God healed me!Next morning I went to the hospital, thesurgeons examined me roughly, threetimes. And they were angry with me andaccused me, “Who did it? What hospi-tal, which doctor? We can see the scarwhere they cut the cancer out with aknife!” But I said, “His Name is Jesus! Hecan do what you can’t do!” But now Ihad made vows to God, so I went to mychurch and told them, “The good newsis that God has healed me. The badnews is, goodbye...” I had made God apromise! How can we expect God tokeep His promises, if we can’t keepours? I stepped out in faith, and with nosalary, no money, I bought a piece ofland, built myself a new house – with no

money – my own staff don’t understandhow I do this, nothing’s changed in allthe years – and I bought a brand newtour bus for the Bible smuggling – whichcost two times the price of the house!Why? Because if God could work thatmiracle and heal me – now I hadlearned something – then nothing isimpossible! Absolutely nothing!

This year I have taken a lot of time topray because we are facing an enor-mous crisis in the ministry. I found myselfasking the question we all ask, WHY?Why this? Why that? And I was asking,why is it that people pray and don’t getan answer? Just one week before this, Iread an unusual story in the newspaper:A family went to bed in their house atnight, with their car outside on the drive.In the night the ground opened up, thecar was swallowed, and in the morningthey found the car 10 metres down atthe bottom of the sinkhole! God usedthis story and said to me, “I’ll tell youwhat’s wrong when you pray. You startpraying, and I’m over here waiting toanswer. But instead of praying your waythrough, you stop in the middle, and theground swallows you up! You stop pray-ing just when I’m about to give you whatyou ask!!” We pray and we pray, andthen we say, “Oh God isn’t going toanswer!” – And then we give up! Anddrop down the sinkhole! But God isthere, waiting to give the answer andwe’ve given up!

Another thing changed my life. When Iwas in a communist prison for smugglingBibles behind the Iron Curtain, (I was a‘professional’ – every time I went I took 2tonnes in my tour bus – I set up a supplychain and we took hundreds of thou-sands of Bibles – it was an incredibleoperation, and after 12 years theycaught me), the sentence should havebeen for 10 years. But I said, “Oh God, Iwant to get out!” God said to me, “Doyou want the easy way or the hardway? The easy way is, you will stay fullterm, they won’t kill you, you will live onbread and water, and you will come outalive.” If that was the ‘easy’ way, whatwas the hard way?! He told me – “Youcan pray your way out!”

People don’t understand. God said itwas easier to give in, to go with the tide,to let them do what they wanted to keepme in the prison... The hard way is tofight a battle with God and with man!Now I understood what happened toJacob! I had to learn how to pray – inthe torture chambers, in 4 months ofinterrogation, in starvation – and ineverything that they did to me in thatcommunist prison! I was never alone, surrounded by men, murderers and drugdealers – there wasn’t a Christian with

me in my cell! I had to learn how to findGod! And in that prison something pow-erful happened. One day, early in themorning – I was in despair – God hadn’tanswered my prayers. I had prayed forfood, there was none. I prayed for myfamily to come, they weren’t allowed tovisit. Everything I asked God for, nothing!Heaven was like brass. No answer. Icouldn’t get through. I said, “Oh God, Ican’t pray anymore!” Then in mydespair, I remembered the words of thedisciples when they saw the secret ofthe prayer life of Jesus, how much timeHe spent with His Father, His communionwith God, the power in His life, the abilityHe had to let the Holy Spirit flow intoHim; and like the disciples I said, “OhGod, teach me how to pray!” – In astinking, filthy prison, locked up 24 hoursa day, the toilet – a hole in the floor inthe corner of the cell. I lived like this dayin, day out, not allowed out for a shower,food put through the door. It was HELLon earth. The reason why I preach theGospel now is because if hell could beworse than that prison, I would give mylife simply to deliver sinners from that hell.

In Israel I preach Christ to thousands ofRussian Holocaust survivors. They listen tome, because I was in one of their com-munist prisons and because I learnedhow to pray my way out! And they wantto know this God who can deliver them,who has power to deliver them!Christian, the world does not want youremaciated, powerless God. They want aGod who answers prayer, who works mir-acles. And if you don’t know that God,they won’t listen to you.

But that day in the prison cell when I saidI can’t pray anymore, the Glory of Godcame down. I jumped to my feet, cryingand shouting the hymn, “Then sings mysoul, my Saviour God to Thee, how greatThou art!” I saw the greatness, the powerof God – not in a church building, not in

my home, not with my family – but in astinking, filthy prison cell. Do you under-stand what God had to do to changemy life?! From that moment everythingchanged, God showed me the day thatI would be released, I smuggled myBible into my cell – don’t ask me how –6000 prisoners, one Bible! And God con-firmed everything through His Word.Then He sent the British Prime Minister torescue me, and I flew home on my birth-day, exactly as God had said. I hadlearned how to pray! Communicationwith God!

Now I’m beginning to find out what hap-pened to Jacob as he wrestled withGod. God changed his name, touchedhis thigh. When God healed my cancer,He touched my voice, He left a mark. Itwas a miracle, I’ve never been thesame since. Look at Peter, a companionand follower of Jesus, heard the amaz-ing teaching, saw the miracles – yet hewas still a man and denied Christ in thejudgement hall of the High Priest – feardestroyed everything. But who was thepreacher at the first evangelistic cru-sade in history? – Peter!

The church today is paralysed with fear.We need that same baptism of fire andpower that Peter had! Pray your way out,pray your way through! Let God changeyour life! Don’t go the ‘easy way’, don’tfall into that ‘sinkhole’. God is there, wait-ing to give you the answer. Don’t give up!

THAN TO PRAY!

Psalm 102:13,15 declares, ‘You shallarise and have mercy on Zion(Israel/Jerusalem), for the time to favourher, yes, the set time has come... Soshall the Gentiles fear the Name of theLord and all the kings of the earth Yourglory. When the Lord shall build up Zion,He shall appear in all His glory. He willregard the prayer of the destitute andnot despise their prayer. This is written forthe generation to come (this generation– pay attention to this) – that a genera-tion yet to be created shall praise theLord...to declare the Name of the Lord inZion and His praise in Jerusalem! – Andall over the face of the earth, in everyplace, in every nation, the Name of theLord will be praised!’

From the time when I was born, theworld has witnessed the return of theJewish people to Israel, once againdeclared to be a nation in 1948 after 19hundred years of exile – separated fromtheir homeland, separated fromJerusalem, separated from Jesus theirMessiah, for the most part without God.But after the Holocaust (1933-1945), wedidn’t know where was God? Then wewitnessed, in 1967, the miraculous SixDay War when God restored Jewish sov-ereignty to Jerusalem! In six days He cre-ated the Heaven and the earth, and insix days, after 19 hundred years, Herestored Jerusalem to the Jewish peo-ple! We’re living now in the time ofGod’s mercy to Israel, we’re living in thebeginnings of a revival – not like in othernations – but slowly, step by step, lineupon line, precept upon precept. It’s stillnot the time for all Israel to be saved,but many people like myself have beencoming to believe in Yeshua, the prom-ised Messiah. God moves in mysteriousways in each of our lives. This is whathappened to me:

I was born in New York City, in anOrthodox Jewish home. My grandpar-

ents were refugees from Russia andPoland, and my parents were born inNew York as ‘American Jews’. I was thefirst Jew in my family to believe in Jesus,probably since the time of the first disci-ples back in the days of Jesus! I grew upbeing taught that Jesus had nothing todo with the Jews, that He was the ‘God’of Christianity, that He had something todo with the Vatican and the Pope andMary and the Roman Catholic Church.In fact I thought Jesus was a Christian! Ithought His Name was ‘Jesus Christ’. Ibelieved what the rabbis and my familytold me, I did not believe in Jesus. But Iwas fascinated every year when I heardthe beautiful Christmas carol, ‘Born is theKing of Israel’! I was always wondering,who was this King of Israel?

I grew up in a very turbulent time, in thesixties, when many of us were searchingfor the meaning and purpose of life.Deep questions. Does God exist? Is therea Heaven? Is there life after death? Whoam I? Where did I come from? Wheream I going? We studied the philoso-phers, Freud, Engels, Marx, Socrates,Plato, Aristotle – none of them knew theanswer – all of them philosophers tryingto solve the problems of the world with-out God.

When a Jew turns 13 years old, he cele-brates the ‘Bar Mitzvah’, the day he’ssupposed to be a ‘man’, when hestands before God, his family and hisfriends in the synagogue, and readsfrom Moses and the prophets. On thatday he becomes responsible to keepthe 613 commandments written in theLaw of Moses. I didn’t want to do that,to spend my life keeping 613 command-ments. So, like many others, I went outand partied. That was the beginnings ofthe days of the Beatles, drugs, rock androll – and we had the Vietnam War – allkinds of things were going on in thatgeneration. In the midst of all that, the

This is God’s plan of salvation for the whole world, this iswhat He foretold in Scripture: ‘It is a light thing that Youshould be My servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob andto restore the survivors of Israel. I will also make You a lightto the Gentiles, that You may be My Salvation to the endsof the earth.’ – Isaiah 49:6.

Apostle Paul, seeing that most Jews in his day rejectedJesus as Messiah, wrote to the early Gentile Church thatthis too was part of God’s whole plan of salvation: ‘HasGod cast away His People? God forbid, because I also

am an Israelite... God has not cast away His People...Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid; butrather through their fall, salvation is come to the Gentiles...For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of theworld, what shall the receiving of them be, but life fromthe dead?... For I would not that you be ignorant of thismystery...blindness in part has happened to Israel until thefullness of the Gentiles be come in. And so shall all Israelbe saved... This is My Covenant with them.’ – Romans 11:1-2, 11, 15, 25, 26.

mysterious ways of God – the mysteriousmercy of God – touched my life!

I came across the famous painting ofLeonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper,which depicts Jesus with His Jewish disci-ples celebrating the Jewish Passover!Now as a child the most importantJewish holiday for me was Passover.Every year the whole family gatheredtogether to have the Passover meal, toremember the Exodus from Egypt, howGod on the night of the Passover withgreat signs and wonders took our forefa-thers out of Egypt, led them through theRed Sea which He parted, through theWilderness to Mount Sinai where Hemade the Covenant with Israel andgave the Ten Commandments to Moses.So when as a child you hear this everyyear, you are in awe. What was Jesusdoing at the Last Supper celebrating theJewish Passover? I thought Jesus was aChristian!

So I bought a full Bible with the Old andthe New Testaments. I began inMatthew and for the first time in my liferead Matthew 1:1 (the book of Matthewis about the King and the Kingdom),where it begins, Jesus the Messiah, theSon of David, the Son of Abraham!!! Isaid, “Oh my goodness, Jesus is a Jew!” Iwas stunned! I couldn’t believe it! I readit again and again! And then I read Hismiraculous birth. Each one of us is bornfrom a seed. Jesus was born miraculous-ly, conceived by the Holy Spirit. TheAngel said to Joseph, ‘Don’t be afraid totake Mary as your wife! You shall call HisName Jesus because He shall save Hispeople from their sins. This was done tofulfil what was spoken of the Lord by theprophet Isaiah! – A virgin shall bear achild and call His Name Emmanuel, Godwith us!’ (Matt 1:19-23.) I said again, “Ohmy goodness, so there is some relation-

ship between Jesus and the Jewishprophets!”

Now I had to put aside all my precon-ceived ideas, and ask God to show mewho this Jesus was! I read the remark-able story of how John the Baptiser bap-tises Jesus in the Jordan and the Spirit ofGod comes down and the voice fromHeaven says, ‘This is My beloved Son inwhom I am well pleased, listen to Him!’ –I said, “Oh my goodness, what am Ireading?!” I had never read the NewTestament in my whole life! Matthew5,6&7 – Jesus on the mountain – when Iread these words I was astonished, Hetaught like one with authority, not likethe rabbis or the scribes or the Pharisees,but as one greater than a prophet! Iread on, about His miraculous ministry ofmercy – mercy to the lost sheep of theHouse of Israel – how He healed the sick,the demon possessed, raised the dead.As I continued to read the account ofMatthew, I become more and moreperplexed, “Who is this Jesus?!” And Icome to this place where it says aboutthe Last Supper where Jesus celebratesthe Jewish Passover, and He’s betrayedby His friend Judas, arrested by theRoman soldiers, taken to the High Priests,sent to Pontius Pilate – and Pilate findsnothing wrong with Him, but he flogs Himand says, “What shall I do with Him?”And the crowd was incited and cried,“Crucify Him!” And at the crucifixion ofJesus, above His bleeding head, as He’ssuffering for the sins of the world, theynail the accusation: ‘This is Jesus, theKing of the Jews.’ I said to myself, “Whydid they write, ‘the King of the Jews’?Why didn’t they write, ‘this is Jesus thefalse messiah, the blasphemer’? Why didthey choose ‘the King of the Jews’?” As Istruggled with this amazing accusation, Ibegin struggling in my Jewish soul, in myheart and in my mind, with this paradox:

how could the God of Christianity be theKing of the Jews?! Or, how could theKing of the Jews be the God ofChristianity? Impossible! And then, in amoment of time, suddenly like the click-ing of fingers, the Holy Spirit came uponme and began to take away the veil ofspiritual blindness. And in that momentof time I said, “Oh my goodness, it’s You,Jesus, the promised Jewish Messiah, theKing of the Jews!”

I broke down weeping, wailing and cry-ing uncontrollably, because He was cru-cified, and I recognised Him, like whenJoseph revealed himself to his brothersin Egypt. I had never been witnessed to,never been told in my whole life the truthabout Jesus. Not one person ever toldme, not one Christian.

I read on, and in Matthew 28, MaryMagdalene goes to the tomb with theother two women with spices, there’s agreat earthquake and the angel of theLord descends, the Roman soldiers areterrified, and the angel says to thewomen, ‘I know you are looking forJesus who has been crucified, but He’snot here! He’s risen from the dead!’ Isaid, “Oh my goodness, He’s alive! He’srisen from the dead! Hallelujah!” I didn’tknow what the ‘sinners prayer’ was, I justfell on my knees and said, “Dear Lord,You are alive and I give my life to You!”And I’ve been following Him for over 40years! He’s my whole life, He’s my Lordand Saviour and King forever!

The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy – Revelation 19:10.All the Jewish prophets bear witness andgive testimony to Jesus. During His time ofministry, He said to the unbelieving Jews, ‘Ifyou had believed Moses, you would havebelieved Me, for he wrote of Me. But if youbelieve not his writings, how shall youbelieve My Words?’ (John 5:45-46.) After thecrucifixion (and His resurrection), Jesusspoke to two of His disappointed disciples

on the way to Emmaus, who, not recognis-ing Him, told Him that they had trusted thatJesus was the one to redeem Israel, but thatHe had been crucified... But Jesus said tothem, ‘Oh fools and slow of heart to believeall that the prophets have spoken. Oughtnot Christ to have suffered these things, andso to enter into His glory?’ And beginning atMoses and all the prophets, He expoundedto them in all the Scriptures the things con-cerning Himself. (Luke 24:13-27.)

In March David was invited to ministerto Slovak Gypsies – believers and theirnon-believing friends – in Sheffield, UK.Their singing raised the roof, and whenDavid spoke the Name of Jesus, thehall erupted in loud cries of praise!

David was in prison in their country,Czechoslovakia, under communism,and when he was invited to evange-lise in Poprad in Slovakia in 2008, many

gypsies came to the meetings. A largegroup of them, with their gypsy pastor,now live in the UK as migrant workers.The leading pastors who organised forus in Poprad fly over regularly to disci-ple and encourage them.

David said: “The world wants to provethere is no God, but we are the evi-dence! God wants to demonstrate Hispower through your life and mine!

When you put your life in His hands, Heworks miracles, heals your sickness, for-gives your sin. Jesus promised you willreceive power when the Holy Spiritcomes on you – this promise is for you!I challenge you – God does not seeyou as Gypsies or Refugees, but as HisChildren and He has brought you tothe UK for a purpose – preach theGospel! Then signs, wonders and mira-cles will follow you!”
