What A Waste

Almost 50% of the food that is thrown away comes from our own homes, but the surprising fact is that more than half of it could have still been eaten.

Food waste costs the average householder approximately £470 a year; almost doubling if they have children. Not only that, but the environmental impact if eye opening. If we all stopped wasting food that was perfectly edible, it would be the equivalent of taking 1 in 4 cars off the road.

Students in particular are given the label of having poor diets, but what this photographic series points out is that students are just like the rest of us in that they waste food that is perfectly edible. Some of it has decayed whilst being in the bin, but the reality is the food was wasted to begin with.

Cleeve Hill

Cleeve Hill: A simply stunning location that ironically isn’t as natural as one might first think. Since ancient times, man has been making a mark on the land, changing and shaping it for their own purpose. Appearances can certainly be very deceiving.

This photographic series aims to depict the passing of time and visually record the pieces of history that have been left behind. The rolling hills and lush green grass may seem natural, but if you look deep in the crevices, you will see concrete paths, fences rising from the ground and holes in the earth.

These images are far from just ‘pretty landscapes’, but rather a representation of how the landscape is forever changing.

Michael Hunt has been beekeeping for 42 years and while ‘his girls’ put him in hospital the first time he was ever stung, his passion was never dampened. After a long Winter, he can finally open up the hives and begin marking and clipping his queens in preparation for the upcoming season.

“I don’t love driving as much as I used to, there is too much traffic. I was a rally driver before this you know. Beekeeping isn’t exactly a similar hobby to pick up after that.”
