PCS Upgrade for Water Transmission System Shuqaiq, Abha, Saudi Arabia 2008 Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) Project: End User: Year: Location: USA UAE France Angola Indonesia KSA Singapore Nigeria China Peru Kazakhstan Pakistan Saudi Arabia has a unique water distribution system with massive infrastructure investments in seawater desalina- tion and wastewater treatment. The desalinated water is shipped from port cities to other parts of the country through pipelines and stored in local reservoirs. Shuqaiq is one of these critical locations with a desalination plant which transports water through long pipes into various regions of the country. INTECH’s scope of work also included FAT done in Germany and hot cutover commissioning of hardware for controllers installed on 45 nodes. Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) requested INTECH for design & engineering services for an on-going Control and Communication System upgrade project. INTECH was called in to provide engineering & design services for PCS at 4 different stations along the 250km pipeline. The existing pump stations section, valve stations, tapping points on the AM system and reservoirs (Abha, Ukad, Albin numan, Ahad Rafidah) were upgraded to Siemens PCS7 based control system. The System comprised of 11 x Redundant PCS7 Systems and 32 x S7-300 Systems. The entire scope of project involved software applications for 43 Siemens PLCs. The commissioning was being performed in a hot cutover state. INTECH was to keep the pumping stations operational during the installation and commissioning of the new system. Since 1992, INTECH has completed over 700 major upstream onshore and offshore Oil & Gas projects for most Majors, leading NOCs, and many IOCs working both directly as well as subcontractor to leading global as well as local EPCs. INTECH has delivered many projects and systems under collaborative relationship with key Oil & Gas OEMs including Schlumberger, Halliburton, Weatherford, Superior, Cameron and others. INTECH is a vendor neutral automation solutions provider with expertise with almost all instrumentation and control vendor equipment. Design & Engineering of PCS - Siemens PCS7 Functional Design Specifications Panel Fabrication and Assembly Project Management Startup & Commissioning System Staging & FAT SCADA Integration and Configuration for PCS INTECH’s Scope of Services included: 45 Siemens PCS7 Controllers with 150 I/Os per controller for a total of 8000 I/Os on the location that were installed at the location. Panels – Because of the 8000 I/Os installed, 88 Rittal Panel Enclosures were used with the control- lers. Screens – Siemens PCS7 controllers had screens that ran the latest state of the art software “WINCC”. WINCC has a user friendly GUI that makes it easier for the operators to operate the controller SCADA – Siemens Belgium and Saudi Arabia were given the contract of upgrading 6 other pipelines at Shuqaiq. INTECH had to integrate the 250Km pipeline leading to Abha with the other 6 pipelines. The Supply of Hardware included: The upgrade project for Abha - Shuqaiq water pipeline involved the replacement of 45 controllers installed along the pipeline. INTECH performed the FEED for the project and recommended Siemens PCS7.
