To design suitable garments for Mothercare, a British retailer which specialises in products for expectant

mothers, catering to the mom-to-be that wants to look trendy as well.

Market Research A shop visit to various boutiques, including Mothercare stores to find out what are the price points, available clothing options, and understanding what designs/cutting fits pregnant ladies best.

The woman carrying her firstborn is once in anticipation. It is also at this time where she feels the most vulnerable and I would like to use a juxtaposition of soft and stiff fabrics to indicate her struggles as a woman carrying the responsibility of bringing her child into the world and at the same time the intense need to feel beautiful and embrace her body.

Fabric and Embellishments

The mod 60s look has strong emphasis on prints with minimal trims and embellishments. Fun prints from the 60s will be utilized as the base of some dresses, combined with light and breathable knits and fall favorites: leather for that polished look. Synthetic leather trimmings are used to accentuate that sharp and geometric look in some garments. And for others, satin ribbons and ribbed jersey cotton are added for soft touch and the expandable growing mum’s needs.
