Dear Customer,
A very warm greeting to all the readers of Concreting Times.
The last six months were not very eventful. Market continued to be flat even though sentiments continued
to be positive. The recently announced budget brought some cheer amongst the construction industry
and the equipment manufacturers with the announcement on increase in infrastructure investments,
setting up of 5 new ultra mega power projects of 4000 megawatts and announcement of issue of
infrastructure bonds.
For the concreting equipment manufacturers, there is added hope as the highways minister has been
repeatedly hinting at more and more concrete road projects. There is an urgent need that government
implements all these projects as quickly as possible.
At SSI, we are heavily banking on the implementation of these projects and in anticipation, are
further investing on mechanization. In the last six months, we also launched two new products
viz., tower cranes and self-loading mixers. Our team is working very hard to localize these
products and be a substantial contributor to developing India.
Finally, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all the readers a very Happy and
Prosperous New Year 2015.

The Chenab Bridge is an arch bridge under construction in Jammu &
Kashmir, India. It spans the Chenab River between Bakkal and Kauri,
in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. When completed, the bridge
will be 359 meters (1,178 ft) above the river Chenab and it will be the
Highest Bridge in the World. The bridge is part of several bridges and
tunnels which makes up the Katra - Laole Section of the JUSBRL
Project in Jammu and Kashmir.
Northern Railway owns the total Project, Konkan Railway Corporation
is executing the project on behalf of Northern Railways and the
Chenab Bridge project undertaking a joint venture company of
AFCONS Infrastructure Limited, Ultra and VSL bagged the prestigious
project.
The project which is constructed using Schwing concreting
equipment have done 17,000 m3 of Concrete till date. It is expected
to be a total of 66,000 m3 of concrete for the project. M25 and M40
grade of concrete is produced in which M25 Grade is used for
Shotcreating and M40 is used in foundations.

Shri.Venkaiah Naidu, Minister of Urban Development today along

the BAICON 2015. Other dignitaries present during the unveiling

630 meter Pumping by 21 year old Concrete Pump
Schwing Stetter BP 4000 (160 kw) a 21 year old concrete pump has recently done a long distance pumping of 632 meters horizontal in a single pour of 26 hours continuously at Ghodbunder, Thane, Mumbai. The pump was hired by Amar Construction (India Crete RMC) and was used for raft foundation of Electrical Transmission Tower (dedicated line for Mumbai Metro) situated on island at Varsova Creek, Ghodbunder Road, Thane. L&T Constructions who are the main contractor of this project have appreciated the support & service provided by the team of Schwing Stetter India for this record pour.

The Project is owned by My Home Constructions Pvt. Ltd. and concrete work is being done by SVS Projects Pvt. Ltd. Hyderabad. Schwing Stetter India has contributed with its entire range of concreting equipments in this project. Relay Pumping at Bangalore Metro
Schwing SP1400 has done relay pumping of 18 meters vertical and 620 meter horizontal at Bangalore Metro Project. The pumping was done by Vijaynirman Company, which has taken subcontract for track concrete pumping from SOMA. A total of 120 m3 of M 30 Grade concrete was pumped in 6 hour for this concrete pour.
My Home Vihanga, residential project is located on top a hillock in Gachibowli, near Wipro Junction. This project will give the Hyderabad a full view of the IT and Financial District. The 21-acre mega project houses 1996 apartments measuring 1115 ft to 2160 ft in area. The project consists of 20 block of 18 floors each and has a total concrete volume of 1.7 Lakhs m3. The project is designed for RCC shear wall-framed structure. The project has various grades of concrete requirement like M20, M25, M30, M40& M50. Till date around 70,000m3 of concreting has been completed.

Schwing Stetter India participated in CONMAC 2015 held between 27th, 28th February & 1st March 2015 at Maniram Dewan Center, Guwahati, India. The first edition of ConMac 2015 was organized in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Indian Construction Equipment Manufacturer’s Association (ICEMA) which had a focus on the North-East Region. During the exhibition Schwing Stetter India launched 4 new products in the truck mixers and concrete pumps category.
Schwing Stetter is catering concreting equipment’s to Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura. The new range of products will be supply to all segments like batching plants for concrete preparation; transit mixers for concrete transportation; concrete pumps for concrete placement; shotcreting pumps for tunnel application and recycling plants for recycling of concrete. Replacing the Hwy 70 bridge over Caney Fork River between Sparta
and Smithville, TN is anything but normal. Because the State has
plans to widen the route in the future, the design calls for a support
structure of cast-in-place concrete that could accommodate four
lanes of traffic. The current $38 million contract held by Massman
Construction, Kansas City, MO calls for a two-lane welded steel bridge
on the four-lane substructure. And because the Caney Fork River was
dammed in the late 1950s the Caney Fork River forms Center Hill Lake
at the Hwy 70 crossing.
“Because the reservoir is not navigable, we had to truck everything to
the site – cranes, barges, pumps,” according to Massman Senior
Project Manager, Dale Helmig. It took over 250 trailer loads to bring in
five cranes up to 300-ton capacity, barges large enough to support
the massive lifting equipment, a Schwing SP 4800 concrete pump and
31-meter separate placing boom. The process of pinning together 10-
ft x 40-ft modular barge sections, assembling five cranes and support
equipment took two months beginning in April 2013.

existing bridge which spans
1200-feet of the lake.

diameter were drilled to
bedrock and the resulting
piers formed from concrete
pumped with a tremie pipe.
The SP 4800 is pumping
from both sides of the river and up to 1150-feet of five-inch pipeline
has been assembled to reach the pier work at times. “Some of the
piers took more than 575-yards of concrete just to break water,”
Helmig states, “From there we add a 30-foot shaft extension of
poured-in- place concrete, then we pump the strut that ties a set of
three piers together, add an eight-foot diameter column and eight-
foot cap. At that point we are 90-feet above the water.” There are
three sets of three piers being constructed in the channel and one set
of piers on land to support the new bridge. Concrete abutments on
both banks are also being pumped as part of the contract.
In order to reach to the top of the piers, Massman utilizes a barge-
mounted Schwing three-section 31-meter pacing boom. The
hydraulic boom mounts on a pedestal that is bolted to an X-frame
welded to the barge. A diesel power pack accompanies the boom. The
pipeline from pump to boom is laid over the existing bridge and
barges in 10-foot lengths with heavy-duty clamps. A one cubic-yard
thrust-block near the pump embeds the first section of pipe to reduce
movement. “We have to maintain a 190-foot open channel at all times
which is why we have pumped from both sides of the river, “ according
to Helmig.
The SP 4800 is maintaining volume and distance requirements on the
job with a 443-hp diesel powering an open loop hydraulic system with
eight-inch diameter pumping cylinders. The pump features high-
volume and high-pressure settings that can be switched depending
on the application. A high pressure Rock Valve with dual shifting
cylinders complements the 2020-5 150/90 pump kit that can
generate 2364 psi on the concrete. “We have several Schwings that
have performed well with very little maintenance which is essential in
these out-of-the-way locations,” says Helmig.
“We have been able to pump up to one hundred yards per hour at
times, but we average sixty-five to eighty yards per hour most of the
time,” Helmig notes, “Some of the larger volume piers have taken ten
hours of continuous pumping.” Pumping through the crane-
supported tremie pipe puts the end in fresh concrete so that the rising
concrete from the bottom displaces the water without washing out
the cement content. After
