Chiyoda Singapore Pte Ltd was the main contractor for the project, and BEC Pte Ltd was engaged to design and construct the chimney. Operating an oil refinery on Pulau Bukom, SEPL intended to construct a new Sulphur Recovery Unit SRU-7 and the associated incinerator requires a new chimney to remove the waste gases. This chimney is 100m high and consist of a reinforced concrete windshield inside of which there will be an insulated steel flue. The reinforced concrete windshield was constructed using the slipform technique. BEC was involved in the Design & Build of the chimney, including piling, pilecap, slipform, heavy lifting of roof, floors and flues, installation of internal rack and pinion hoist, AWL’s, internal lighting, lightning conductor, earthing works. • Working in a "live" Oil Refinery Plant with constricted access and storage areas, and also amongst other contractors • Working on an island refinery off Singapore provided many logistical challenges with labour timings for 2 shift/24Hr slipform activities and deliveries on limited transits • Overcoming an open-type excavation for the Foundation without interfering neighbouring access routes by adopting a permanent block wall shutter system which allowed earlier backfilling prior to casting of concrete Shell Eastern Petroleum Pte Ltd Chiyoda Singapore Pte Ltd Balanced Engineering & Construction Pte Ltd Lining System Stainless Steel 316L
